MK7 Sportwagen with Unitronic intercooler and intake intake air temps around town
Переглядів 32День тому
IS38 FBO. ~90 deg F ambient. Heatsoaked for ~30 min after driving to Costco then driving "normally" around town. Hood up/fan blowing on engine bay for 30 min check once I got home. I regularly see IATs less than 20 above ambient during single pulls and between 20-30 above ambient on track. IAT delta ambient will be lower in colder weather approaching ambient at times.

Forgot to mention...turning it off....there are issues some folks have with this. You have to push and hold the power button for a sec or so then you will see a turn off button on the screen. If you don't do it this way, it's just in sleep mode and will kill the battery eventually and causes some issues getting it to turn on - have to hold power button for a LONG time to get it back on. They can say its "normal" its not! VW is just junk
This is such good information that isn’t really talked much about anywhere!
Speed, Hellyeah!!
as a VW service advisor, its nice to see this video before i personally get this complaint from a customer
Pity it's auto... such a shame.
Good thing I don't have that single metric for whether I like a car or not. A great car and fantastic to drive even with the auto.
Nice Build! 😂 Well sorted!
Another thing that works great for poly bushings is a single layer of Teflon tape at touch points. Then use the provided lube, or Marine grease, and those poly bushings stay quiet for years.
Great one! I've done that for a rear sway bar that wouldn't shut up.
Thanks for spoon feeding us a detailed explanation as well as part numbers! This certainly makes it easy.
Just remember I didn't list the fasteners and some of these required a bit of modification but that should all be handled with some time spent over on golfmk7.
2018 Here with VR6 engine. Never heard this sound. Doesnt seem normal to me though.
Surprising - I've not heard one that doesn't do this. Lift you hood after starting it, turn it off and listen. It's normal in that I've heard so many do it and at 6 years old, I've not/never heard of this as a source of problems. Just a noise of the springs on shut down.
@@karstgeo7290 I'll definitely check it out.
Nothing but the best! Thanks for sharing. Gotta get me some aero covers
hi, do you have any ideea why is geting to limp mode? i have the same problem on my car for 8 months and i allready did change turbo and some other parts that are on the error code, but still have the problem from time to time. (and i do not race)
Very vague here, what codes are having? Limp mode/EPC can be from a number of things, here specifically this is due to misfires from too much timing correction due to the tune being "spicy" for good fuel (lots of advance) and the winter fuel blend not supporting it.

What are the Live data that you can read in your smartphone's screen with OBD 11 connected? Has engine temperature? Coolant temperature? MAF/MAp sensor incoming air temperature?
correct, you can see any of the PIDs you want
I wish they'd mark the Sport Xtras as 200tw since they seem to be more like a 200tw tire but I can't run 100tw for my Autox class.
How was the event as a whole? I registered for this year and am stoked.
Fantastic! I'll be there again this year. A relaxed VAG track event with a side of car show. First time on track?
@@karstgeo7290 It’s not, but first time at this track and it looks sick. I’m from NE Ohio so I have some experience at Mid Ohio, Nelson Ledges and Pitt Race. I’ll be in the intermediate group. 😃

what if the login code propossed from the app doesn't work, do you know how to know the right login one?
For which module/control unit?
Ive run alot of 200 tw tires and these are not even in the same realm. They squeal like an all season and wear like a summer tire. Easy to find the limit since its so low. No sidewall support. These need to be marketed in the 300 tw range, not even close to other 200 tw on the market. Even federal rsr which is same cost is 5x better all around. Fun for a low limit street tire thats about it
Agree they are noisy, they wore well for me. Agree they are more like a 300 when comparing to other 200s. I currently run the Nexen N'Fera Sport R...a super 200 and yes, much grippier. I have a video of me chasing my buddy in a MK8 R at VIR and he is on these tires, he holds his own on them for sure. A good cheap way to not trash your street tires is how I look at them...I had fun on them.
Here you go. I have one from outside in T3 and you can hear them singin'! ua-cam.com/video/YjdoKLYmNk0/v-deo.htmlsi=SZ2Rqfp9bSuDokOY
I got these expecting a 200 tw tire and my autox event turned into a drift day as I tried to keep the car from sliding every single turn 😭 a fun tire i agree but they need to change the tw rating to reflect their true performance. That's my only gripe. Almost like false advertising lol
@clubtouge1052 my son runs these for autox actually.
Doesn’t make sense castrol oil in walmart 25$
It makes a lot of sense for many. Castrol oil change all-in from Wallyworld is about $40-50 for my VWs. I've been doing this for almost 5 years and when combined with all the other maintenance/consumables I buy from FCP...I have ~$2.7K in refunds to-date so over 5 years for 3 VWs it has cost me about $2K out-of-pocket per my records. For only oil changes that are infrequent..yes, probably not worth it.
@@karstgeo7290 so you pay 50$ at fcp for 5qt at walmart its 25$ the same oil it’s double priced at fcp and you already paid for next free oil so you didn’t save any money my friend also you need to pay shipping for that oil around 20$
@@karstgeo7290 the same oil castrol at walmart its $25 at fcp its around $55 5qt so order at fcp you already paid for your free oil because its double priced also you need to pay shipping for old oil around $20 because its hazardous also you locked your money with them I’m sorry but you didn’t save any money just good marketing
hell yeah
You've got the is38 on too right? Did that change noise much from the is12?
Yes. Tone is going to be close.
I’m mid-install on these-the passenger-side fitment is pretty bad. The tab inside the fender looks too far outboard by at least 1/8”.
Mine are ok...took some playing to get it right.
I have same issue
I’m definitely looking into this!
I just went to is38 with IE on my sportwagen with the stock gsw brakes, should I upgrade to the alltrack/gti brakes or am I fine for street/highway driving with the stock gsw setup.? . Or should I just get some better pads? It has felt fine so far
Your factory brakes are just fine, unless you are really sending it in the mountains I wouldn't worry about it. IF you are going to do that, just get some good pad per the video and ensure your fluid is fresh. IF you want more heat management, I'd step up to the 340 GTI PP/R fronts and skip the 312s, the difference in the 288 to 312 is negligible.
Any idea what the Garmin is basing the Optimal Time on? Line, previous runs, some algorithm? Interesting to know how realistic of a target that is.
It's building it based on your best times on the various track segments. So it's an ideal number based on you hitting all of them as well as you ever have.
I've actually just gone to a wired setup. I find the bluetooth connection to be very unstable from the Catalyst.
I lost it more than once so can confirm.
Forgot to add: Endless is fantastic. Been using it since the beginning of 2023. I only chose it over Castrol SRF for two reasons: 1. It comes in 500ml bottles instead of 1L bottles (have to crack one open to top off of bleed, you're not exposing an $80 bottle to air which needs thrown away in a reasonable amount of time) 2. It comes in metal cans. Metal cans are better about not letting moisture/contamination in. I mark all partially used brake fluid bottles as the date I opened them, and for plastic bottles I pitch them after 30 days, metal bottles I pitch after 90. after that the cap gets an X on it and is then for emergency top off only. I don't do a full bleed until winter time now... and actually in February I was running on the same fluid as the December event (oops). The stuff just plain works. I did actually start to "fade" it in February (similar to the Motul pedal sink, not complete loss of pressure, etc) but that was also on last year's brake pads as well (which were just below same thickness as the backing plate at the end of that weekend). Thinner pads = less heat isolation = put more consideration into bleeding the brakes. But early in the pad life you can get away with doing 2-3 weekends without a bleed.
Nice job, was great getting out on track with you again!
High quality content. Great lap. Awesome blossom
How is it with Stock rear muffler and only x pipe?
No idea...didn't run it that way.

Awesome work. Always working on improving!
Wow! Way to go AdamKarstGeo!
i ordered these without the headlights as well. are both high and low beam bulbs h7?
No. Video explains this. Outer projector is D2H and inner is H7.
i have thinkdiag i don't know how to check haldex to check temp oil...
Nice! I believe default shutdown time is around 3 hours. You could also code to use power management to shutdown when the battery gets too low. Granted it’s not bulletproof as the battery ages.
F*** between all of that and going to the post office it looks like more work than changing my oil. I don't know man it feels immoral or unethical. I return things that are the wrong size that were defective I mean what was wrong with the oil I mean he said it perfectly if you're willing to take advantage FCP Ain't My Daddy. You know they got to put you on some kind of a list or whatever yeah that's another one of those oil returner guys. Karma get you sooner or later you spill that s*** in your car trying to return it for 30 or 40 bucks.
Your old Deautoled low beam bulb does fit in the flash to pass spot, thats what I did with mine anyways
It would be tightttt. Someone with these told me it takes a mini H7. I don't want to mess with the driver thing having to bring it external anyway. These work fine.
V-land offers the lights with LEDs as well. Any reason for or against LED instead of the HID kit?
I read about a member in the GSW/AT FB group that had these and said the projectors are optimized for HID so figured why not, no real difference in price/complexity. You can certainly use a D2H LED kit as well which likely still has some kit that needs to be tucked away in the housing.
@@karstgeo7290 Thanks! I’ll probably get these ordered and figure out the bulbs after. Funny I almost went with the Deauto LED that you had on your Halogen housings (I have a ‘19 Sportwagen S) but this video made me reconsider!
