AudioTechnica "Sound Burger", unboxing & test
What cartridge are you using for your 1019? Great table!
The Sound Burger seems like an ideal second turntable; have one "real" table set up in your den or living room for deeper active listening, then this as a second table which lets you easily play records out of that dedicated space to get some more utility out of your records. This thing is never going to be truly portable in the "take it on your morning jog" sort of way, we all know that true portability is impossible vinyl records and digital is the only real answer here, but it will let you create a temporary rig in the kitchen while you're cooking, or on your home office desk, or maybe out on the patio if you're brave... and with the right speakers that setup won't sound too bad. If you already have records, any excuse to engage with them is good, which makes this thing a winner.
People paid way too much for this in the day.
I didn't know the msrp or the second hand value and when I found out (msrp 699 euros, second hand value 250 euros) I was even more shocked. It's a boomy clock radio, and that's all it is.
@@rollingtroll It's a transmission line design, but apparently a badly tuned one.
@@D1N02 Aye, it's slow AND boomy. I generally like transmission line speakers, I don't mind their slowness as long as they have some sort of musicality and control. I prefer a sloppy, slow bass over an overly tight, hollow one. But this ain't it. I don't think it's just the TL though, probably a lot of EQ'ing going on as well.
Bose is and has been overhyped the last 30 years. It's not that special
That's a 30 year old speaker😂😂 and it was the bottom of the line model
I think they are very good considering they come from mini system. They sound especially good, warm and detailed with folk, reggae and jazz music. They just need a proper source and amplifier. Just like in your case Nad 705.
They are 'okayish', even for a mini system. There's some really impressive mini system speakers, once you hook them up to a better amplifier (I hooked a pair of small full range JVC's up to an ayre k3 and audio analogue donizetti. Those things sang!)
Beautiful
They are coming back 16rpm records😅😅
Are they?
An awesome way of using Bluetooth by connecting it to powerful speakers instead of just some cheap portable ones, makes Bluetooth look really nice with the blank table
Love your reviews man
Happy to hear that!
I have my eyes on one of these at the moment, still undecided.
Purely for sound, there is better for less money. They do look cool though!
Thanks for posting this video. I have a Akai - AP 307 . Recently i did DD offset setting after disconnecting the DD motor and after reconnecting the motor not spinning.but there is power in the coils . Its tuff to rotate the motor . Supply transistors getting too hot when tonearm is on . Can you please advise what would be the problem
does nothing on mine
Then either it's broken, or it's one of those super cheap DJ style record players that have a fake anti skating knob. Unfortunately that's a thing.
Bom dia, como muda a voltagem desse aparelho? Existe uma chave seletora de voltagem?
You can’t. There are different models for different regions. What do you have and what do you need?
@@rollingtroll Hello dude! I have the model pionner PL 12R, I found the selector key is inside of the record player, I already changed the voltage. Thanks! Grettings from Brazil!
@@romulormartins shit you are right. I am mixing up my machines. Keep in mind that for 60hz you need another pulley
Hi, I’m blind and want to burn my own compilation cd’s. If you copy tracks digitally via optical, do you still have to set the recording levels? Or is there a normalize button on one of these units? I can’t see the display so I’m looking for a unit with normalize or a fixed level. Which one would be most suitable for me? Thanks.
im looking for a vintage dual hufi early 80s with built in amp slide control Anybody
yes drop outs yes i know about it on fox 5 years later i would say they would have fix this by now i am a audio tec and in to alot of formats i tryed some floor drops last year re load the cassette with the new tape of pancake i will say wow the new tape sound ace i know there was alot of RD work on the new fox tape i know they made tape for the 4 track cassette recorders that were bad best to keep away from the best sounding tape is betacam liner audio because it run at very high speed 6x betamax i have some decks
hi used to be like yuu getting the make i stopped because alot are made the same now i know the FOX are made for the high speed dubbing game tapeline i get my cassette bodies from and the 1/8 tape are linked up to how the tape is made for the new fox cassettes i don't by makes any more just LP SP 1/8 tape pancakes i have a otari dp2700 i can fill the bodies to the size i need tape line do this a well
This was a great little watch. This Cuore sounds exactly like mine back home in Pakistan it just has a lot more dash😂😂i also have that exact stereo unit in mine never used it. Feels quite weird seeing a LHD one as being from the UK ive never been in a LHD car and mine back in Pakistan is a RHD Pakistan domestic model
The turntable on that Combi unit looks a lot like the GF808 too. Incidentally do you know if anyone makes phono preamp boards for the 808? Mine is the base model with just a ceramic cart but I'd like to put a VM95C or something on it instead
I have the Phillips 212 Electronic. I designed a low-Mass tonearm for it, with hanging weight anti-skating! Still working in 2024.
I have one and the transparent lid is scratched, when you say polish it how could I do that ?
The complaints about Crosley are basically all focussed on the suitcase players... because Crosley became synonymous with those Cruizer suitcase players... These C6 ones are actually decent starter turntables! Btw, those bypass switches, are those implemented properly? Do they only partially bypass the excess circuitry or actually everything? Btw, another great budget phono preamp is the ART DJ Pre II. I've had one for some time to do testing, but gave it away to a friend who started out into records... I think he's still using it.
I have the A26 model (6.5 inch woofer) & they sound fantastic with plenty of bass hooked up to my 50 wpc @ 8 ohms Yamaha amp.
I was recommended the a25 and bought the a26. And then realised how wrong I was. Sold them, bought the a25. The A26 sounds really messy and has a gap in the midrange and uncontrolled lows. The A23 just sounds small. There’s only one sweet spot in the range. Even the tower speakers (a250 I believe) aren’t that spectacular
What are speakers in the back? I've been trying to figure it out, super cool video as usual!
There's four of 'em! The lower ones are the Ion Deskrocker (remarkably good cheap things), the ones that are hanging up high are the Sansui Micro 820v (ua-cam.com/video/o36-tj2yoNY/v-deo.htmlsi=BUZu0W0dRp0vi2xA)
@@rollingtroll alright noted!👍thanks!
Thanks on the hunt for one!
Where are you from?
@@rollingtroll South-Africa. They are mostly well used and a bit over priced.
@@Allan-mf1he I will be selling mine eventually but I am sure exporting it there will be costly. Also wheel on the wrong side 😁😁
That squealing sound you referred to in this short is called “Tape Chatter”. The worst offenders I ever found were 1980-1987 CBS cassettes, although there were a few from the 70’s that also had the problem.
Not only a super cool video, you made discover a great band too
Which one is that?
@@rollingtroll Okta Logue!
@@homestudioculture ah yes! I am happy I got away with using that on UA-cam 😁
@@rollingtroll superb band👌
Those Philips speakers with ribbon tweeters are quite interesting, I am occasionally looking for a pair of the bookshelf models, just to find out what they sound like
“Okayish”. Happy to sell you these for a small price but shipping might get tricky 😁
@@rollingtroll Yes, I can imagine :D Thanks, but I am really only looking for the bookshelf versions as they don't take up too much space...
Those Philips speakers at the end, try them on the floor in proximity of walls, i´m thinking if they have a bass port in the bottom.
I know a bad case design when I hear it I’m afraid. A wall isn’t going to remove that hollow thunk, that is coming from the cabinet itself. It may be a little less pronounced when placed right but it’s not going to be a good sounding thing
Nice to see you can still pick up some hi-fi stuff at thifts, in Sweden those days are gone. if you find some vintage hi-fi unit you will pay for it. stumbled on to a SX-750 with half of the knobs missing and the dude wanted 290E for it untested.
Absolutely idiotic. People generally don’t care too much about second hand here so it’s pretty affordable.
Those speakers were part of a surround sound setup and from my childhood memory they sounded great and I also once had the Philips MCD 909 tube bookshelf system and that also sounded very good
Ooo those BASF tapes are lovely. Awesome record players as well!
Bit of work to do to them but still! And those tapes are always welcomed
I thought yr review was good but then i saw you recommending the ath 50s so yr opinion is garbage. My fear is the eternal cable. Once it's fucked adios headphones. I didn't found or hear any simbilance or high end s sound 4 to 10k gz frequencies. Be noted i had the superlux 681, and i couldnot stand how sibilant they were. But that's was 10 year before owning the sr850 And yes good bass for an semi open (practically open) set.
Can you explain why a grooveless disc would not work?
It technically would if you used the beginning or the end. But it shouldn’t stand still. People are somehow convinced the stylus should stand still to get anti skating right and that just is never the case.
thank you! that helped, I was about to buy them since I couldn't find any reviews online :)
Not worth your time really, goes for most affordable Japanese speakers :)
Ah man if those VU meters were real it'd look pretty cool. And if the amplifier wasn't trash...
Yup, when it powered on I was like 'that's actually kinda cool'. And then I noticed they didn't do anything else :D
Thanks for filling the gap in my knowledge. Obviously, it was more commercially viable to run them faster. The quality of sound is good, compared to the 78s I do remember. Most classical symphonies could have fitted on one side. What a shame they went out of production. ❤️🎵👍
they are pretty sensitive though, with their thin grooves. And a well treated 78 sounds much, much better. Still, when used correctly there's quite a bit of use to these.
Heh, this video served as a good demonstration why JVC is one of my favorite audio brands. The stuff usually works and performs really well too. Another fun Speedtest!
Rarely disappoints, I find. I have no reason to use JVC stuff myself (other than a few of their cassette decks) but it’s very solid hi-fi. Part 4 in 2 weeks! Not much jvc left but there is still a little 😀
Hi, what and where did you get those speaker stands?
They are part of the speaker. If they are not there they are incomplete :)
It needs (needed since you passed it on I read) a belt replacement for sure… I found a NOS myself with the same speed related problems. It’s an end of the line yet quite poor attempt by the inventor of the Compact Cassette. I say this with pain in my heart being a Philips audio aficionado (kill me later 😆).
I wish our thrift stores were like this all they got here is clothes endless amount of clothes and outdated furniture that nobody wants and when you finally find something interesting is worth a fortune
I mean, we have those too. But we tend to skip those. There's a pretty good app that gives you an impression of what to expect
@@rollingtroll no app over here you have to go to find out some don't even look like they're in business same thing every time

I was on a nostalgia driven search for the radio of my childhood. The very first 'big' purchase I ever made at the age of 6 (24 years ago now). Think I found it, or at least a model very similar to how I remember it. Thank you for uploading this, completed my search and brought me straight back to my childhood listening for hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of music on this radio.
So happy to hear that! Insane, how people spent good money for stuff back in the day and now it's trash. Can't let that happen!
Je compte les acheter en occasion à 200e la paire pour les coupler à un Marantz nr1608.. J'hésite avec une paire de triangle comète 902 neuve.. Quel est votre avis ? Merci
I'd prefer the ELT7. I just wouldn't go for the Marantz :)
@@rollingtroll la paire que je veux est nommée elac elt-7 mk2, bi câblage disponible, c'est la seule différence avec les elt-7 ?
@@pascaldasilva4252 I don't know! I only had the ELT7. If that's the only difference though; connect the bi-wiring poles with a short bit of decent copper speaker wire, not with the little plates that come with it. Almost free upgrade!

What about the Diamond 2? Are they that much different? Thanks for the video btw. The mic catches the room too much but it still give an idea of what to expect.
I always thought the DII was way less good, but it's almost the same. The tweeter is definitely a little less refined but if you can find them cheap, no reason to avoid them :)
@@rollingtroll Cheers.
One of the best small speakers of all time. They go unnoticed by most but they sound wonderful.
I connect my turntable to a phono preamp into my focusrite 18i20 which is connected to my PC via USB. I use Reaper DAW and IzotopeRX 10 as my audio editing choice's because Adobe Audition kept giving me audio driver issues after an update. Great video!
Yeah those test records for resonance are interesting to look at, but you can also just make a recording of a regular record and check the FFT diagram for the resonance peak. It's way more reliable than calculating it. Measuring it with an FFT diagram is the most accurate, but even eyeballing it using a resonance test record is more reliable. Most of them have a test tone on top of it, which starts audibly wavering at/near the resonance peak. I made a video of it, it's a bit boring but it gets the idea across: ua-cam.com/video/MLbkubOmHzQ/v-deo.html
We already agree, i use a test record to eyeball the resonance frequency. How else did you think I'd do it? That being said, I see a 2m (compliance 22 at 10hz if I'm not mistaken) on a typical SL-1200 like arm (12 grams, usually) and I'm very sceptical about the resonance frequency of that combo. That aside, even a good matching 2m I think is a waste of money. But people seem to buy them :D.
@@rollingtroll Yeah I meant it as an example; could be useful for other viewers. And you're right, its resonance frequency isn't at 10Hz... that shows that eyeballing simply gives an idea if it's more or less in the ballpark, but it's not that accurate. I've measured it using an FFT diagram to be about 8 or 8.5Hz, which is still higher than you'd expect from the specs. This also telling for the quality of these 2M cartridges: they're not that accurately specified/made. There's quite a bit of spread across 2M cartridges when it comes to their compliance and even output voltage. The 2M Black for example is specified at 5mV, but mine outputs more like 6 or 6.5mV. So yeah I agree, these 2M cartridges aren't that great... it was one of my first cartridges, so I didn't know any better back then... As I always say: *Gaande weg leert men* 😉 I've even heard stories about people who had their cartridge pins come off their 2M cartridges when connecting/disconnecting the headshell wires! Audio Technica offers way better value for the money, so I changed to "team AT" over the years... except for Ortofon Concordes, the older LOMC ones in particular... I'm just sucker for those haha
@@QoraxAudio I just don't get why people buy the 2M. There's the AT-VM95 series, the Goldring 2xxx series, the Nagaoka MP1xx/2xx series, the new Sumiko's, the good old Denon DL-110, Dynavector's 10x5. How on earth people end up with Ortofon, Shure or Stanton, I'll never get it. That being said, sometimes you have freak matches. I have an old Lenco L76/s that somehow REALLY sings with a Stanton 500s. I don't know how, but it does. It was already in there, I tried loads of carts, and the Stanton just sounds 'nicest'. Maybe not best but 'nicest'. As for ortofon; I think ortofon starts at about 700 euros. And the SPU series are absolute gems. I could use one for my EMT 928 but try and fit one to that. So I went AT-XP5 (so underrated, it's insane how good that thing sounds. It beats my Goldring 2400 in that player, which has a ridiculously heavy arm at 35 grams effective mass).
@@rollingtroll I agree on most of that, except for Shure... those cartridges are actually quite good, very neutral sound. The Shure V15 type V with a Jico Microridge stylus is just great... very accurate! However, they've become ridiculously expensive since Shure stopped production... way overpriced...
@@QoraxAudio May I ask which other cartridges you used? Also what's the compliance of the Jico stylus and in which arm are you using it? (I already know I don't like the V15V, Jico or not. It's a muddy mess and barely better than the M97xe, but I am curious what your taste is).
In Discogs, I found this 16 rpm records? I have difficult to find
