Pro-Touring 73 Camaro: Light Em Up! I'm On Fire?
Sorry for the clickbait, turns out there was no fire. Just some smoking header wrap. In this video I go through break-in plans and first start prep. Of course there is a first start clip but the iPhone mic did not do it justice. I'll also cut open the oil filter and look for carnage.

Pro-Touring 73 Camaro: Just Stop It!

Not being satisfied with only giving you good people a boring video of just me bolting on the brakes. I've added a little extra content on modifying the rear rotor hats to reduce weight as well as a comparison of the rigid and floating two-piece rotor systems by Wilwood. There is also a few pointers on safety wire in there for a twist (pun intended). You can find the brake unboxing video where ...

This is a bit of a hodgepodge video but mainly focusing on the cooling system. The radiator is from PWR (formerly C&R) which is specially designed for an LS swap into an F-body. It has the main water barbs in the correct places along with the necessary steam port. It also has an integrated transmission cooler in the left end tank which I repurposed as a power steering cooler since I will be aut...
Thoughts on Welding a Bung Hole

I always start an aluminum welding project with hubris which quickly turns to disgust, fear, and loathing in that order. My first attempt at TIG welding an aluminum bung to a thin walled aluminum tube mount the intake air temp sensor was a disaster, mainly of my own making. I was surprised that there really weren't any How-To videos specifically on welding an aluminum bung so I set about figuri...

I knew I wanted to get a little more extension on the steering wheel stack up to get the driving ergonomics in a better place, plus the stock wheel was starting to get a little sticky/slimy (slicky?) like some old vinyl can. I went with an NRG short adapter hub (170H) and one of their 2.5 series quick releases. I topped it of with a modernish three spoke NRG wheel. This whole setup brings the w...

Part 2 of wiring harness fun. This is clearly only for the die hard fans or the self-hating you tube viewer. In this one I build up a "Power Station" that replaces the old lead-acid battery with a smaller and much lighter lithium battery and a couple busbars. The battery is an Antigravity ATX-20-HD. After seeing just how much flex remained in the chassis (primarily where the front subframe meets the unibody) after the suspension swap, I quickly decided to bump firewall braces higher up the to-do list. These are from Speedtech but I'm sure any ones that triangulate the top of the firewall to the front subframe would do. Keeping with Speedtech meant I could use the existing pick-up points on...

I am trying to do the "good nuf" route with the wiring harness in that I'm not going from scratch but I will be modifying the new and existing stuff pretty heavily and trying to make it all look nice. Hi Matt, finally hanging the rear dangles on my 70 Camaro. Been struggling with the Speedtech directions even though I just received the new ones. The first gen directions I received first even though I told them I had a 70 were much more detailed than the new 2nd Gen directions. Do you remember a starting point length for your Articulinks? It would be great to have some kind of a decent starting point and then adjust for the wheel arch centerline.

    I have a 70 SS Camaro and those lower mounts will need to be put back in. The radiator core support will flex under load due to inadequate support to that sheet metal. The upper mount where you are placing the aluminum body mount will shear off, without that lower mount adding additional support.

    • @OpossumWorks
      @OpossumWorks Рік тому

      Do you have any idea where it fails? The spot welds to the core support or the bracket itself? I can beef things up either way but would prefer to avoid reinstalling the additional brackets.

    • @randy4553
      @randy4553 Рік тому

      Yes, upper mount sheared off at the radiator core support. I went in classic industry to buy lower mount, which my car was missing. Since I can’t weld I drilled a hole through center of the upper core support and radiator support bracket were it’s welded and put a large short bolt to fixate. Painted it black and you can’t see it.

    • @OpossumWorks

    I always felt that going was optional, but stopping was not, so I might have to disagree with you a little on that. :) I chuckled a little when I saw you position the hammer on the table to work on the brakes. We've all been there, especially trying to get stuck drums off. Then the BFH comes out. I've done a little safety wiring, but the tip to go the other direction for the tail was good to learn. The brakes you're using are impressive. The rears alone are massive. What sizes are you running?

      Ho Ho Ho! The brakes are 14” rotors all around, 6 piston front, 4 rear. Wilwood aero 6/4. These have the racing upgrades which add thermo coating to pistons and gives me a wider caliper/pad in the front among other things. I did a video on unboxing the brakes a year ago or so where I told about those details more but I’ve since forgotten.

    Does the back of the radiator have rubber flaps towards the top? Your hunt for hoses brought back memories of trying to find hoses for an engine stand that had a radiator for a Chevy, but a Ford engine mounted on it. I bent up some coat hangers, went to the parts store, and said I need something like these. They just laughed, point to the back where they kept the hoses, and said good luck. I did manage to find some though.

    • @OpossumWorks
