Does the back of the radiator have rubber flaps towards the top? Your hunt for hoses brought back memories of trying to find hoses for an engine stand that had a radiator for a Chevy, but a Ford engine mounted on it. I bent up some coat hangers, went to the parts store, and said I need something like these. They just laughed, point to the back where they kept the hoses, and said good luck. I did manage to find some though.

It does, those flaps blow out of the way when flow is driven by vehicle airspeed instead of fan suction as you probably can imagine.
