No doubt Engels is a player but our midfield didn’t function as well as it has been this season. Paulo is well versed in our patterns of play. I think Brendan will start with Bernardo rather than Engels against Slovan 🤷‍♂️

A question on Celtics annual operating costs. It cost us 106M to run Celtic last year. Is this getting a bit out of hand, or does that figure include the infrastructure upgrades to Barrowfield and Lennoxtown? I suppose we could handle 1 Europa League season but 2 consecutive Europa League seasons may put a dent in that Huge cash reserve we have. This is why we should invest that huge nest egg into our football department so we can unearth gems during those Europa League seasons that may be on the horizon.

As I said on Engels before he signed, he just looks like a typical modern player, good athlete, good height, good engine, but ive not seen anything from him to suggest hes a particularly good football player, in the slightly intangible sense of "class" and IQ. Hes going to do the basics, cover a lot of ground, press and fight, might even add goals to his game, but is he going to cut open Atletico Madrid like Matt ORiley? Probably not. Hes going to be a useful player and has an excellent physical foundation for Rodgers to build on, but I wouldnt have paid 11m for him, Augsburg have got the value on that deal, especially with the sell on. Im not convinced he has the footballing talent to ever be worth significantly more than that, I see his ceiling being like a competent Gladbach centre mid, in fairness the type of player we end up wishing we had after we get slapped around in Europe again.

Great show, On the Var youtube segment, A very clever move imo, Its a very public platform for showing errors/mistakes along with what was correct calls. WC is pulling the curtain back to show the world the culture within the refereeing in Scotland. Naming and shaming along with good calls/performances is a great start and will ultimately change obvious bias and then behaviours.

I think the ref coaching has improved. There was a game earlier in the season reffed by Kevin Clancy, who I don't think is particularly biased, but just a bad referee with poor feel for the game...I thought he reffed it better than any match I saw him ref last season, I was surprised.

Martin I think he would like to have a promotion or demotion of refs but he has not inherited enough refs of a standard. Presently a lot of refs don’t want to go up the ladder. It must be one of his challenges to grow the pool. Picking up Alan’s comments about the SFA it would be interesting to know while has a mandate for change is he encountering deep resistance from certain quarters.

Collum was always really highly rated outside Scotland. I thought his wee programme was great. Like Martin, I did think Hearts should have had a penalty, but I completely respected the explanation. For the kyogo one, again it was a grown-up discussion of a mistake. You know if Dallas had been in Collum's place, he would have been tying himself in knots justifying every decision
