By a country mile this podcast (along with 20 minute Tims) is the best Celtic input out there. The detailed analysis is unrivalled. And no stupid misleading dramatic thumbnails.
Love this. Thank you for the massive effort and dedication for publishing this incredible info, analysis and stats and translate this to us ordinary fans. 💚🍀💚
Can't believe that we will take a chance on CCV as we will need him for the post international break fixtures. I would wrap him in cotton wool until the derby on the 7th of April. Would be good for MOR to get a rest too so hopefully on bench for Denmark rather than starting if he is in the squad.
I have checked the data and found our issue! When did we last win the League without an Aussie in the team. Time to recall Tilio 👍 Glad that’s sorted, back to the billabong 👍
Khun played well, his pass for the first goal was quality. Just have to win on Saturday and hope we can get the injured players fit for the games after the break. I see O'Reilly has not been called up by Denmark that could be a blessing, we have two weeks off, Rodgers should give some players at least nine days off and tell them to book a holiday somewhere warm, they might come back fresher than they presently look.
Love this show. Thanks chaps. I thought we were decent, middle to front, against Livingston's giants but Welsh and Scales seem to be a foundation of jelly unfortunately. Welsh should have been moved on years ago to be honest and Scales would have been gone but for injuries and Starfelt's lovesick heart. His knack for passing the ball behind his target is dumbfounding. AJ has noticeably been better recently and especially against Livi, him and Taylor ran and tried to make things happen all day. For what Bernardo has given us since the break, I'd rather see what young Kelly or Holm can give us from the start.
I can well understand your comments on some Celtic Fans Media, regarding the teams performances, is all bad or all great, but when they use Twitter as their point of reference,, I really give up on them, maybe it’s my age 🤷🏻♂️(72) HH, keep up with your excellent commentary
great chat gents, agree with everything said , but i would add, jj being kind to livi about their defensve shape . i watched perplexed as to how celtic hadnt smashed half a dozen past them , and it was 2 all with 10 to play. mind you livi were gone by 60 minutes . good to see young socceroo yengi get a goal for livi, although it begs the question as to why he was at livi. hes way to good for them , and i cant help but speculate what kind of trouble he could have caused for celtic if livi had hit him more often. martindales ego got the better of him , and he should have gone bog standard low low block . unfortunately it just goes to show no one lives in fear of this celtic side . despite khuns improved showing , old man forrest showed he is still the quickest winger in the joint , and thats troubling . he looked a meter or two quicker than khun.
Mahaish = not sure i can agree on Forrest and speed - you said yourself Livi had gone by 60 mins and it was against that tiring defence Forrest prospered to an extent (0/3 on crosses). Kuhn has proper speed.
Maeda's work rate comes at a cost. He tires badly after ~60 minutes and as a result becomes less effective and makes more mistakes...however he's usually not substituted because there's no depth and he still provides some threat even when he's running on fumes.
They must have offered scales a pittance because he’s not signing what they have offered, seems like they want him to go now but not fully prepared to push him.
What is an explanation for why so many of the games this season have been nervy, obviously so many not actually won, despite XG generally being in our favour?
Historically (recent) when Celtic are +/- within 1 xG of the opposition, they still pick up 70% of the points. This season in such games Celtic has only picked up 58% of the points despite beating TRFC twice. Why? Depth of quality of squad is probably the key issue.
@@alanmorrison5981 Perhaps not determinable, however I do wonder what the % win rate is when our ‘best’ XI has been on the pitch this season🤔 Is there not an argument though that with our significant advantage over the other 10 in the league in terms of resources, our manager should still not have overseen dropped points in 8 of 27 league matches?
@@alanmorrison5981 thanks Alan, apologies I was listening in the car when driving home and had to pause it...I've obviously not got to that part yet :-)
Hello Willie - his statistical profile had two potential red flags in the benchmarking exercise I do. First, his ability to accurately play short and medium length passes was relatively poor. Second, proxies for pace were extremely poor. So basically a CB playing at Celtic who gives the ball away too much while playing a high line, and lacks recovery pace, would be a REALLY bad combo. I suspect that may be what they have seen in training, but obviously guessing.
Its unfortunate that players like scales get almost an upper level of criticism. To spend such large chunks of a podcast on the guy is incredible.. given the failings of other players. You spend all that time talking about a man that barely gives a goal away. "Rarely clean" ffs listen to yourself 🤣 you may have a point but the amount it gete talked about is far over the top and screams to the fact that half our fanbase dont like him. Simple as that.
I have a huge admiration for Scales. I just happen to believe Celtic needs to have significantly better players in multiple positions not just his, which we also talk about at length in other episodes.
@alanmorrison5981 so here's how I know its over the top criticism (not quite going to call it a witch hunt but it's not unlike one) Welsh was mentioned in one context in the video. Where the idea of taking scales out and playing him with ccv was floated. This in a game where he was absolutely abysmal. Literally handed livingston a goal by losing his man and then not getting back quick enough. He also has a part to play on the second goal where he doesn't even try to help o reilly. O'reilly by the way also gave livingston a goal by losing possession in a criminal area and then being unable to show the guy away from goal. (O reilly was also supposed to be marking the guy who got the header in when Hart saved it. So none of these have anything to do with scales yet you two spend a 10 minute segment talking about scales. Scales has barely had the same CB partner 3 games running all season. I'd say he's done very well considering the ridiculous amount of change round about him. For the record I don't want scales in the first team for a new look celtic next season. I agree his distribution isn't good enough and he lack a bit of pace. He's doing his best though and I've never seen him turned inside out like nawrocki has been or Welsh.
I normally thumb these videos up but not this time. This constant whingeing about Scales is ott. Honestly think he is like this seasons Karl Starfelt. No matter what he does we get the usual he's not good enough patter. Confirmation bias at its best. No mention about the players who were directly responsible for the goals we conceded. Welsh showed all the mobility and awareness of a geriatric with a zimmerframe and late stage dementia. O' Riley dawdled so long on the ball I was waiting for him to fish his mobile out of his pocket and take a selfie. Shocking stuff. If Scales did that he'd never hear the end of it. According to all the stats Scales is one of the best defenders in the league. He has won motm in champions league games and played well in derby matches. Yet now when it suits your confirmation bias you choose to ignore the very thing you place most stock in. The plain and simple fact is Carter Vickers and Scales are by far and away our best centre half pairing. Don't bother mentioning Lagerbielke or Nawrocki who seem to become flavour of the month on the basis of simply not playing. And another thing, a defenders first job is to defend. When a ball comes into the box a defender must clear the danger. If the ball goes out of play so be it. Rarely do players when they are dealing with balls coming into the box manage to pass to one of their own players.
By your own admission, you normally avoid these videos. So you won't have heard credit being given to Scales when deserved. That pretty much invalidates the rest of the rant - confirmation bias is a two way street. The demands on a Celtic centre half are quite specialised and involve being able to progress the ball sometimes 100 times a game. As opposed to maybe 5-10 headed duels. I believe Scales is actually, like Starfelt, a decent penalty box defender. It's just that the demand for that is limited at Celtic in most matches.
@alanmorrison5981 Actually it's the opposite. I'm a fan of the channel and regularly listen and agree with whats been discussed. In fact I think it's one of the best Celtic podcasts out there. On Scales however I disagree.
It’s tough with Scales. There is no doubt we are seeing a player makes the best of himself. However he is intrinsically short on the quality needed at Celtic and that is clear when benchmarked against historical centre halves. No harm to him but he is indicative of the summer recruitment shambles.
Take two 🤞 we have a full video this time!
hope you remembered everything you said the first time. like losing an essay before submission
Thanks guys class again
As I watch “the patient” slowly dying this season - the stats are saying “but the operation’s a success”. Gotta love it 😁 Good show again guys.

Really enjoy the stats perspective....
Starfelt played a lot taller than he was, he had hops.
Mate starfelt also liked to give away important goals every now and again. He also didn't get the same level of criticism that Scales gets by default.
I have checked the data and found our issue! When did we last win the League without an Aussie in the team. Time to recall Tilio 👍 Glad that’s sorted, back to the billabong 👍
If Rodgers wins the double this year he deserves to be hailed as a miracle worker.

Thanks. I'm firmly of the view Welsh is a good footballer in the wrong league. One with less emphasis on hoof ball i think he'd flourish
Brilliant podcast 👏 lads

he's been doing fine last 4 games Peter
