We explored a shipwreck!
Ever wondered what it looks like to explore a shipwreck? Here I am taking you along my side as we (@coastaltrailsmedia5716 and myself) explored one of my favorite dive sites; The Conestoga!
The Conestoga was an iron-clad wooden steam freighter constructed in 1878 that sank in 1922. The shipwreck rests in the Saint Lawrence River (freshwater dive) south of Cardinal, Ontario (Canada) at a depth of around 7m (23ft).
The footage featured was taken in August 2024.

      No need! I either directly use what I removed (which is already quite diluted) or I use the concentrated mulm by letting the water sit for a few hours and removing the clear water on top to keep only the brown stuff.

      I found the base kit to be a little bit too strong for a long-finned Betta. Other users told me that they have modified the flow nozzles by adding sponges on them to reduce the flow to make it safer or replaced the whole pump. As of today I still haven't tested this myself.

    • @DolbecAqua
      @DolbecAqua 2 місяці тому

      @@toneloke5145 it is a hard question and I can't give you a definitive answer because all the different parts (light, filter, aquarium itself) have different life expentancies. I can speak from experience and say that I've had these aquariums for more than 4 years and still haven't found an issue if that can help you. A well maintained aquarium can last a long time, indefinitely, if you are willing to maintain/change the silicon holding the panels together.

    I'm new to this tank and the fish! I don't have to take the fish out to clean the tank??? Also I can keep half the water in the tank and add what needs to be added while fish is still in??? Sorry for all the questions, haven't owned a fish before and tank and fish was given to me I can use room temperature filter water? Or tap?

    • @DolbecAqua
      @DolbecAqua 3 місяці тому

      No worries! Welcome to the hobby, I wish you success and happiness 😁 To answer your questions; no need to remove the fish suring maintenance. Yes you can keep half of the existing water (try not to change too much at once). Yes gou can use tap water but depending on your source (city/well/other) you might need to add products to neutralise harmful trace compounds such as chlorines/chloramines, that's what I do since it's the easiest for me.

    This video helped my understand about reducing the white light. I have found that the full White light setting produces too much algae in my tank, and Yellow or Orange does not produce algae, and the plants are growing perfectly. Thanks for the video. Have you tried with and without charcoal in your filter? I wondered if there's much difference? Does it absorb fertiliser nutrients? Also a tip from me - you can syphon the new water back in too. It's really gentle and doesn't disturb your substrate. Can I also ask about substrate - I use the syphon to collect the mulm from on the substrate (I have shrimp and fish). Do you do something else to remove mulm or do you prefer to keep it on as fertiliser for plants?

    • @DolbecAqua
      @DolbecAqua 4 місяці тому

      I haven't really seen a difference with or without charcoal to be honest and now all my aquariums run without. I remove the mulm for visual reasons, usually when I find that there's too much. The worst cases are on sand substrates where it's super visible, otherwise I leave it.

    Thanks for the helpful video. Do you have an opinion regarding the Fluval Flex 15 gallon versus the Fluval Spec 16 gallon for planted aquariums?

    • @DolbecAqua
      @DolbecAqua 7 місяців тому

      TL,DR: More light (algae issue?) but less control on the light profile with the Spec but very similar. I like the look of both. You're welcome! Both are actually really similar. I own the Spec 5G but I have not tried the Spec 16G (I plan to try it in the future). What I noticed with the Specs is that you can't control the lighting profile (intensity and colors) but you can with the Flex series. Also the lights on the Spec series seem stronger (more LEDs) than the Flex series, so you could get algae issues if you don't have plants, or your plants are all slow growers, or you don't keep your aquarium in check with regular maintenance.
