Many critics of DS2 claim that only DS2 tries to be difficult and that Miyzaki never intended the Souls games to be difficult.
In this video I'm debunking this weird attempt of rewriting history with a quote from Miyzaki himself where he states that he tried to make Dark Souls 1 the most difficult game possible, while showing some examples of artificial difficulty in DS1.

I just watched Hbombers critique of Matthewmatosis then this popped up on my feed. I also just finished ds1 for the first time, and it was much better than I thought it’d be, but it was nowhere near as good as every other Fromsoft title. I haven’t played ds2 yet so I’m looking forward to it eventually

If I just blindly believed the ds2 'critiques' I don't think I ever would have played this game, yet since I've watched your videos and actually tried it out for myself I've finished a playthrough of vanilla ds2 and recently started a sotfs run, and I've been enjoying it immensely, pretty much the same as any other entry in the series.

Dark souls 2 hater starter pack weapon: rapier or estoc because man oh man everione says its op so lets use a op weapon on my first playtrough of the game! Armor:the tseldora set or nothing really. Man oh man this game is so unfair da enemies do so much damage to me surely its not because i am using a fucking dress that gives me more souls so i can just compensate the lack of souls i get from the areas by just going straight to the fucking boss! Its always like fucking that, why cant these dark souls 2 review guys cant play the fucking game normally, imagine how trash your experience with ds1 would be if you just looked online for op weapons weared no armor and just ran straight to bosses?
I don't know if you'll see this, but I recently got the platinum for Dark Soul 1 and I bought Dark soul 2 because of you, it's a wonderful game so far I haven't had because of you. It's a wonderful game so far I didn't have any of the "supposed problems", With 10 ADP I had no difficulty rolling, I didn't get grabbed by the pursuer once, I didn't fall into any ambushes because I think differently from certain people. Thank you for introducing me to this game, keep doing the justice that this game deserves.

i really appreciate your outstanding content. i recently picked up playing bout DS2 and DS3 ( im a repeat silly goose for remastered's pve ), and invasions :3 i like them both, they are both lovely; thank you for protecting our beautiful gem. i get the most excited for SotFS, then 1, and i'm still mid way on 3 and it's so epic :) hit boxes on 3 are like getting pulled into a singularity, but that's every game ever and it's fine.

Do you even know what 'whataboutism' means? Whataboutism is a deflection tactic where someone starts talking about another topic. Like "damn those fires in Los Angeles are scary, we should do something about climate change" - "you think that's scary, but what about the War on Christmas? That's really scary". Whataboutism is deflecting by changing to a different topic. There is no whataboutism happening here, as people like MauLer and Dimitry present these arguments as reasons why DS2 is worse than the other Souls games, so I'm directly addressing their arguments by pointing out that they are biased and have severe double standards where they vastly overexaggerate issues if they happen in DS2 and massively downplay or outright ignore them if they happen in DS1/3

Even though DS2 is significantly better then 3, if the games past DS1 still have the same flaws even in a smaller degree then its worse because the flaws of the previous games were not fixed and were either made worse and still in the game, Sequels s are supposed to improve if not remove problems of the previous games. He repeats several times throughout the video that these are the reasons why DS2 is worse than the other Souls games, so unless he is explicitly mentioning in an argument that it also happens in other Souls games it's obvious that he is arguing that this is unique to DS2 and does not happen in other Souls games.
@@Domo3000 He still doesn't say that this only happens in ds2. Even if the other games flaws are worse why should Ignore or downplay the flaws of this game? You don't go into the actual flaws of the game enough and instead just say "skill Issue" when talking about their critiques When you talk about the the Grab attacks in DS2, you fail to mention how it's not a hitbox issue but rather an animation issue. Since nothing can happen until you animation stops, it is not Unreasonable for a player to assume they Dodged an attack(even though they didn't) because their player model has finished the dodged and just Teleported to the grab. That IS a big flaw, hitbox or not, even if it happens in the other games.
34:44 I have conflicting opinions on the game and re-release, but I do think that the importance of torches should have been established better, in the scholar version this feels more like an easter egg instead of establishing a tone for the area. Also I agree with most stuff but the statues added do look pretty out of place since they are the same tutorial enemy petrified lol, wish the lost bastille had a different kind of enemy type, like what happens in the shaded woods with minotaurs (that I don't like for other reasons, like the fact they added so many, some of them blocking access to more fragrant branches, making people unlikely to free Ornifex with no guidance). Frankly I don't think they change much about anything besides being an annoying obstacle, but that may just be me. Heide's "midgame" optional area is just a few early game enemies and the dragon, after which you have a very easy boss so I struggle to consider it that. A change I don't see people talk about often is Vengarl's body being moved besides Tark... I hate how it makes Vengarl to be sorta comical and goofy, with his body being literally on top of him, completely blocked an alone, while his head senses the battles it had. I much preferred it being in some different area, and was fun to imagine the things the duke made him do lol. I also feel like Vengarl's quest in scholar gets completed not much after first meeting him, that does make him less memorable. All in all I love ds2 softs but I wish I didn't hate it so much, if it makes sense.

You’re completely missing the point: In iron keep you have to fight through this gauntlet every single time if you want to fight the boss. There are no shortcuts and you can’t run past them. The worst is that choke point with those giant metal turtles. I just finished playing DS2 SOTFS and boy is this game tedious and clunky and stupid. I thought four kings would be the worst boss run in the series but this makes it seem like a walk in the park. If there aren’t ridiculous choke points, then the stupid fogwalls don’t have i-frames. Which is a big deal since the enemies seem to have infinite aggro range. If you’re going to go through this every time you want to fight a boss, at least being able to unlock a shortcut along the way would have made sense. But no, do it 15 times so the enemies don’t respawn. Dumb! I don’t understand why you people keep defending this crap. Is it nostalgia? Is it because DS2 was the first Soulsborne game you ever played? This is by far the worst game in the series and I can see why.
@@mrjooxmanallah which gauntlet? There's not a single gauntlet I ever had to fight more than once in Iron Keep. The one with the turtle choke point isn't even a runback. You just have to fight your way through it once to discover the Old Iron King bonfire.
look dont get me wrong i love ds 2 but no snap movement is not "fine" its absilutely dogshit , especially when an enemye goes between your snap points thus making you miss him even if the attack connects. soft lock on also absolutely sucks with you still attacking in the direction of your movement, playing ds2 locked on is misery cuz of this.
I still think Frigid outskirts is dogshit simply cos there's no bonfire right next to the boss. I don't wanna have to run from the start with summons and fight the reindeers every time just to get to the boss.
after replaying DS1 & 2 you really feel how much they leashed enemy agression/agro range in DS3/Elden Ring, you kinda cheese through in all the games but in the latter ones you can do so with complete impunity
Does it have more? I dunno, but it's still got a lot of encounters with bizarre aggro patterns that feel like no matter how carefully you approach the situation, you're probably going to be overwhelmed the first time because of something you didn't consider Which is just part of DS2s design philosophy

@Domo3000 49:00 I think what he’s trying to say about lifegems is that you can stack them, because they heal slowly you can heal over your max health value as long as you get hit before you fully heal. Vs estus being instant cannot. If I have 1500 hp and I pop 2 super lifegems for 1000hp each for a total of 2000 hp, and I take 250 immediately after that second gem popped, it will heal that 250 damage on top of whatever health I’m already missing, and if I keep getting hit and never reach 1500 hp, it will keep going till It heals for the total 2000. If I chug estus and get hit for 250, im only healing 250 and that’s it, the remaining 750hp on that flask is gone, overcapped, instantly. Honestly I think it’s interesting and if it had dark souls3/elden ring’s 20 item cap it would be a welcome addition, and demon’s souls moon grass was far more egregious, if not for the fact that some moon grass could heal from half to full hp instantly, then the fact that the animation is the fastest in the souls franchise. And if we don’t want to count demons souls because it’s the first game, Elden ring literally let’s you craft healing items with the only penalty other then material cost being the fact that it poisons you, which is hardly a punishment considering how available poison boluses are.
My conclusion is, both vanilla and scholar are pieces of garbage, just in a different bag. getting all achievements in it was just a nightmare.

I think ds2 sucks but I dont think its hard at all. It surprises me when people say its harder than other games. Its just clunky, slow, predictable and tedious. As I go through the levels I can always guess exactly whats coming "itd be annoying if there was a guy behind this corner so there probably is" It makes sense why people who like to be tedious and do the same things over and over like it, just not my cup of tea. Also I played the whole game locked on when fighting enemies but didnt have any problems.
Oh yeah I love adaptability, stiff and floaty movement, your health bar decreasing whenever you die, human effigies being far and few between, shit hit boxes, the lock on mechanic being broken, enemies ganking you everywhere you go, bonfires not being safe zones, no s when walking through fog walls, horrible map layout and a cluttered ass UI. I seriously don't get how anyone can like DS2 with all these issues.
Adaptability is a good stat because unlike vigor and dexterity which clearly indicate how much health and damage you get on the level up screen for the casuals ADP requires that you pull out a stopwatch and test the minute difference between agility values yourself or look up breakpoints on a wiki like a real gamer to figure out if your points are even doing anything which makes for more engaging gameplay. ADP also increases build variety because you can choose to play as a low ADP guy in heavy poise armor who can facetank everything and outheal the damage by spamming lifegems or you can play as a high ADP guy in heavy poise armor who can facetank everything and outheal the damage by spamming lifegems slightly faster and who doesn't have to deal with a broken roll and flask. ADP won't fix the broken analog movement and lock on though unfortunately but dark souls 2 is still a best game.
Sorry boys, I've enjoyed literally EVERY From Software game that has come out since Demon's Souls, most recently with Armored Core 6.......EXCEPT.....WAIT FOR IT..... Dark Souls 2 is utter trash lol. Keep abusing that copium XD
Dark souls 2 is actually a good game though as long as you analyse all the frame data to scientifically prove that since the pursuers broken hitbox clipped an atom of your character's toenail during what was supposed to be s but you're too much of an uninformed casual to have leveled ADP so you get teleported into his grab attack but if you git gud enough to fight all ten of the copy pasted boss fights of him to get to the climactic battle against the dragonrider that jumped into a pit 10 hours ago but this time there's two of him and no pit you'll realise that dark souls 2 is actually a good game and if you don't like it you're a bad player
I played these as they came out... only ones i missed was 3 and the remakes, because i got buned out after bloodborne. Ds2 main problems that i remember was the change in direction movements, stat controlling i-frames and map areas not being as jointed as they were in 1 and demon
