    I never understood ds2 fans going through all this hoops and loops of defending vitality and adp as a stat. like i agree ds2 even though imo opinion its the weakest in series, its still a very good game. but dodging didn’t need to be touched same with equipment load. you’re EL upgraded with stamina was nice it didn’t need to have its own stat and same with dodging and flask usage. it just makes stuff convoluted. But no matter how you try and spin it, its a bad stat. that’s why none of the other games brought it back.

    I don't particularly like Feeble King, but i can't sit here and listen to you lie to your audience about him. The reason he's running past shit is because he's literally doing a boss run, he plays at SL1 at every game and beat them all, including this one. He is not bad at the games. You're being dishonest to make your point. Dark Souls 2 was my first, and i fucking hate it. It made me dislike 1 and 3 for a while because the mechanics hadn't clicked in my highschooler mind. DS2 set me up for failure with the other games, and I didn't give them a fair chance at first. This is because DS2 is a fucking mess, unironically crafted by the B team. DS1 up until Lost Izalith, is the best. Elden Ring is the most mechanically rich, as well as good exploration, but bad bosses. DS3 has mid exploration but fantastic bosses. DS2 is a joke, leveling up i frames is fuckin retarded. Punishing players who are struggling, by halfing their health and making them struggle more, retarded. The spam copy paste on every area is, you guessed it, retarded. The first time a souls game got me mad was with the 7 fuck off flamberg knights who all agro the moment you come near the building they're in. DS2 is a mess, Fight me.

    good shit. Glad DS2 has soldiers still upholding its honor. I do agree that adding Heide Knights to Heide was bad but not due to difficulty necessarily, because the storyline was clear in vanilla that they had fled Heide (which iirc was also mentioned in the design works interview) and the lone encounter at Forest of the Fallen Giants was extremely memorable. But other than that and things like the Aldia's keep skeleton dragon, most other Scholar changes feel like genuine improvements and you get one of the best characters in all three of the games added in Aldia.

  • @been_rly_n2_paragliding_lately

    Some people really disliked the switch to the Action button for discovering illusory walls in DS2. But if you consider the insane amount of secrets DS2 has, it should be viewed as a positive quality of life feature. Smacking each individual wall panel with your R1 would become tedious, whereas with the Action button you can just run along the wall and button mash. Idk why they completely ditched the R1 method though. It seems like having both methods would have been ideal - for people who prefer R1, and so people can naturally/accidentally stumble upon illusory walls while in combat.

  • @Mattroid99

    The point of the Royal Rat was not about the damage output, but the design. Without the rats the Authority is extremely easy and barely has any moves, so the challenge is solely due to four rats running at you with Toxic poison (That just drains your HP and is extremely hard to heal in time) without any way to safely split them if you do not have ranged options (What if I don't have magic or an upgraded bow?). Is extremely lazy design and there is nothing creative about it either. You also failed to mention that the other differences with Capra is that first, the dogs don't poison you (And poise is very rewarded in that fight), and the arena at the very least allow you to separate and kill the dogs. Is it a good fight for it? Not at all (As Matt himself aknowlesges, the element of surprise of it wasn't worth its addition), but there is a bit more thought put into it than the Authority, and ultimately the fairness of both is not very high even if I would say that the Authority is worse. Excuse me, what variety is in the Congregation? Is just a square with a bunch of of zombies that barely hurt you and three mages that also barely hurt you. There is barely any strategy except mash R1 and with magic you shot the whole room with 1/2 casts. Comparing it with the Channeler's encounter (Which is not even a miniboss, is a mob that respawns so the comparision is incorrect too) is just wrong: the Channeler is way afar and buffs the Crystal Hollows (Who already have decent moves and damage output) or shoots at you. The area is way more complex with columns, stairs and libraries to separate the enemies and protect yourself by projectiles and the Channeler both hurts and teleports when close, repeating the scenario as you make progress. And yes, Souls games work best on 1v1 engagements for the reason Matt mentioned. Does it mean it cannot support multi enemy fights? Of course not and the common enemy fights are very often multiple enemies, but is often weak foes (In your own footage you showed common soldiers and Dreglings) and, if preferable, a fight with a tough opponent or a miniboss is usually done in 1v1s: notice how, for example, the first Red Knight you find in DeS, the Black Knights or Pursuers have almost no mobs accompanying them except the two Pursuers in Drangleic's throne in NG+. This is where the system is at its strongest, so the point Matt is making is not about them being hard or never done before, but that the way they approached challenge didn't work well to the series's engine and you misrepresented him. Please don't insult the person's intelligence or understanding of the media, Matt has and has shown aplenty and is the reason why he's so respected. Also, the "don't use the lock on in multiple enemy fights" in 2024? First off, no: is perfectly possible to use lock on in multi enemy fights. This isn't the game teaching you anything (Where in the game is explicitly told that you shouldn't use lock on vs multiple foes?), is how each person prefers and I've seen players not using it at all, always use it and switch or going on and off and in all cases it works. Second: the case he pointed was completely legitimate because many weapons struggle to hit enemies crawling on the floor without lock on (Sometimes even with it, right Rapiers?). He HAD to use the lock on with his loadout. Good catch on his slip about floor collapsing in Demons's Souls. However you didn't point out that that floor collapsing never instakills you in any example. Also "This doesn't look safe to me" is your own interpretation and as this provens, other people may have other perspectives. Someone can very well interpret it as a riskier jump with the lower fall damage as a compensation. Again, for the second Ogre you are making an assumption. "There have been two before, so you should considere there is a third". Except the first two are telegraphed, the third one is not. What if the Ogre attacked you where the item is to punish you there? Would that also be a punishment for rushing? He never said that the fact you can use Ogres to break the door is good or not, he ONLY talked about the ambush, the rest of the context was added by you for the purpose of disregarding him as an hater. This is an awful argument, you can't "tear apart" other people works for bad/fabricated arguments when this is something you also do. Ummm... no? Is well known that DeS has some of the worst boss runs in the series (Again, something Matt ALSO aknwledges in his DeS commentary). So again you fabricated arguments, and you didn't prove any possible cheap deaths that you wouldn't have already seen after you made to the Tower Knight the first time. The "cheap death" you showed later is solely you not knowing the timings of the Dragon attack properly, which is a fixed one. Also we have no proof Matt played it on the Hard mode covenant. What we know is that he played at best one route of it. Your whole argument is based around it yet we don't know for how much he sticked to it, if it did it for all playthroughs etc. And yet not only his complaints were NEVER on its damage output (What the Covenant affects), but on the design, so nice on you for ignoring that I suppose. Also, "they made it a lot less cryptic". You mean the same game where you burn a metal windmill to remove poison from a boss's Arena? Or where you access the Dragon covenant by giving an egg to a Merchant NPC? Or where the Pilgrims of Dark covenant has one access almost impossible to notice without pure luck in the Black Gulch? All games have good and bad cryptic stuff, what would be best is not be disingenuous. This is also a 2014 review where the builds weren't clealry explored enough. And again you misunderstood his point. What he told was that the difficulty is mismatched: the game's approach to difficulty is quantity over quality, yet they walked back on changes made in DS1 to make the challenge more tight, repeating mistakes that DeS already did. (And Lifegems are way more busted than Grass, I might add). AGAIN, he also criticized DeS runbacks in his other works. What he pointed out here is that making a straight corridor with 7 identical enemies you run past is stupid. The layout has no interesting perks (Is just a corridor), the enemies are copied and no one will ever kill them more than once because is completely pointless to do so, so why making so many enemies that players will just run past to because they see the fog gate already there? Overall, this video (And I assume the rest of them are on the same boat) is awful. It really pisses me off how disingenuosly you paint his argument to make him look stupid, but I assume that when your viewerbase is DS2 lovers that cannot accept their beloved game is poorly made, they'll sure as hell going to let it slide...

  • @Mattroid99
    @Mattroid99 3 дні тому

    You did a great job dissecting the many, many mistakes in his video (Which is terrible, I even agree with many of his points but the examples are often asinine), but still the premise of yours (And to most of what I see in the comment section) that people who dislike it are bad at the game is not only completely wrong, but insulting. I have over 350 hours on this game and I have completed it with some decently challenging settings with relative ease, so I think I could be considered a competent player at least. By your own logic I should be praising the game.. but I still don't and I consider it bad. Many of my friends were also very experienced and finished DS2 with relative ease even in their first playthrough... but we still think is a terrible game and is our laughing stock. Not hard because is difficult, but because it tries its best to kill you unintelligently. Point is, reducing things to "I dislike DS2 because I'm bad" is terrible to the discussion, and is much better to individually criticize the video and its poor arguments rather than insult the potential viewer that dislikes DS2's intelligence.

    While I think Mauler's points r asinine, a lot of the decisions u disputed r valid when talking abt game design n player experience. Like the Ember and 50%HP bar. Yes, practically speaking, they r the same w different visual flairs, but design wise, 1 makes u feel better n rewarding, while the other worse n punishing. That was probably a design choice to make players feel the pressure of dying, or something along the line, but it is a valid point when talking about the game. In itself I consider points like these reasonable criticism, but more often than not ppl use nitpicks like this in bad faith. Tbh both the ds2 haters n glazers usually do this in bad faith.

    you are retarded he was literally touching that big lost bastille dude and he's "not in range"???? Also stop spamming so much DS1 and DS3 footage it's really not necessary and all it does it pad-out the video needlessly. "DS1 also has bad hitboxes" does not counter "DS2 has bad hitboxes" lol I don't think mauler would disagree. When in maulers video does he ever say or imply that DS2 is the only game in the series to have bad hitboxes?? Also mauler says ADP does not explain what it does well enough so idk why you would counter with "he's blaming the game becuz he didn't read the description of ADP." Also rolling is well known to be more efficient for fighting in the souls games than using a shield, unless you are building towards a great shield combo but even if you WANT to rely on a shield more than rolling, you get so many levels that it would be silly to not at least get your AGL around the 95 range. If you can beat the game on low ADP then fine but if you want to play efficiently you would always try to get your AGL up however you can. Why would a tank player not be able to level their ADP? You say this as if it has a massive effect on the gameplay and as someone that has played DS2 hundreds of times, you get more than enough levels for ADP and later vitality or w.e you want.

    The only thing I don't like about Dark Souls 2 is when you fall from a medium or high height, your character automatically does a "roll", sometimes if the surface is small he falls into the void, but it is solved by doing a "fall attack" before landing on the ground where you want to go, but for a novice it can be frustrating, for the rest I agree.

    Yes! DS2 powerstancing is something i miss the most in future games, on same scale as World Tendencies from DeS. All this "powerstancing" in DS3 and ER are pale shadow of it's former glory.

    Seen a few of your videos, i loved some of the things ds2 brought to the table, like the better weapon infusions, stackable buffs on weapons, and lifegems (I like them). I loved ds2 when I was SUPER new to the series and explored forest of fallen giants and heide's tower. That was in the OG version. But as I got further areas like the poison gulch and the traps in that big castle really soured my experience. Plus I find the character (player) movements to be weird, its hard to describe, but it feels kinda like my control stick is play-dough or something. But seeing your videos, im really going to go give the game another try. I've tried to like the game a lot of times, but I think it deserves another go from a fresh perspective! So I'm going to try again with Sotfs. I love the murakumo in DS1 so im going to use the drangelic sword until I can get the murakumo. I'll be sure to level vigor and adaptability lol! Hopefully I enjoy the game more this time with all this more accurate information. A buddy of mine also loves the game so I'll ask him to guide me a bit. It'll be fun for us both.
