Fishing the Forks, Winnipeg, Manitoba
apparently it's easier to catch them off that dock there. The conservation officers apparently feed them off that dock after stocking. Too much people walk on that dock and spook the fish though.
The difference between sauger and walleye is sauger have black spots on the tail and the top fins. Walleye have a green tail with a white mark on the bottom of it
Indeed, but what about saugeye Chris?
@@FinallyFishing never caught one before
You need to move further away from the locks when all the gates are closed. The big ones are laying around the corner by the floodway
Good Tip, Thanks Chris
Love omands! Always get little pike, saugy boys and goldeye there. Tight lines Vernon! 🎣
Thanks Bud, what are you using for the pike?
@@FinallyFishing Was using a floating minnow but the water levels were really high so they would be hiding in the bushes. Much harder now with low water.
Vernon I have a couple spots on the Rat River if you head south of Winnipeg again. The river has a few deep holes that hold bigger fish year round
Would you be willing to share your spots? You can always drop me an email?
I caught a seagull once while fishing there. Line snagged its wings while casting out.
Yeah that happens from time to time, got a nice bird list myself. No Gull yet.
@@FinallyFishing The worst part was I had to reel it in slow because of how the line wrapped when it fell. If I reeled fast its head would drag under water. Had to bob him back to shore lol.
Nice Beaver! There should also be bigger fish in these creeks, going up to feed in the small fish. Where? At what time? With which lure? The 3 variables that keep us going fishing!
Thanks. Slowly learning the What, Where and When, but we will get there.
What a beautiful park. Small river but lots of charm. Also a lovely spot for picnics. You must take “the wife” there. So peaceful and your video is calming. True, if the fish don’t bite, they don’t bite. But that one made the difference.
Thanks Joe, the park might look peaceful, but it is in a busy part of town.
An absolutely beautiful area to fish in. Getting something on the hook is just a nice extra - to me, at least!! 🏞🎣🩵
And the crazy thing, it's like 200m away from Pollo Park (Shopping Mall)
Try Portage and Moray, North side. There are lots of fish under the bridge, but lots of snags. Plenty of channel cat in the area too.
Thanks Timothy, I'll give that spot a look.
First!
Haha, always excited to see the first.
Nice video ,
Thanks
Fished almost that spot a bunch of yrs ago. Caught a mess of goldeye. Didnt have a smoker. Tried baking. Frying BBQ. Could get ride of the wet texture.. Planted them under the tomato plants.. got a fantantic tomato crop. Huge tomatoes.. only problem was they tasted like goldeye😂
Nice fishy tomatoes... I have heard that they are tasty when smoked. Seems like a lot of trouble for small fish, but I might just do that catch and cook someday.
How did you end in a crap hole like that?
Simple, I drove here.
Thanks for the info on this beautiful lake! After watching your video we made the drive out this weekend and caught 2 15" rainbows, 2 small black bullheads, and over 30 perch. All fish were released. Game wardens came by for a check and mentioned that while rainbow trout are in the water, they rarely hear of anyone catching any that big. Beautiful location, had lots of fun catching all afternoon.
That's great! good stuff.
Your on fish brain
I am indeed.
Thanks for sharing. I have fished at Lockport.
Did you get anything good out there?
wrong walleye are on the bottom. they are a nocturnal fish.
Fish sleep for a few minutes, so technically they are both nocturnal and active in the day. Predator's are more active in low light conditions as it improves the odds. And yes, walleye are on the bottom, but they are looking upwards. Carp and drum look down and feed on the bottom.
As a Manitoban I'm thinking don't eat anything out of the Red , out on the lake they are better eating. Fella 👍great video 75+🍁 hunter/ fisherman
Thanks, and I agree with you, better spots to get fish from.
Sick video man! Just curious if thats the trout magnet jig and worm? If so, where can you find those in the city? Also from manitba as well
Thanks, and yes that's a trout magnet. I have not been looking for them but I use to get them at Walmart. But there aren't many good fishing sections in the local Walmarts, so I would say try Cabela's.
It's easy to know which pronunciation of Lyons Lake is correct - just ask the fish before you throw them back!! 😋😋 A lovely day's work at the height of summer, I'm glad you both got to enjoy that. Congrats to the wife on the PB! 🎉
Thanks, I will look into the fish whispering...
Lovely body of water and great and healthy specimens. Beautiful colours. What a lovely day it was.
Indeed, thanks Joe.
Nice mix of fish! First time I see a sculpin being caught. Thank you both for the video.
That was a goby. Sculpin fish live in saltwater or brackish
There are freshwater sculpin, however you are right. That was a goby. You can tell by the protruding eyes.
@@phillipbalara5670 Check very carefully, Vernon, there are 4 indigenous species of fresh water sculpin in Manitoba. Manitoba is not supposed to have Round Goby (yet!) which is a nasty unwanted invasive species from Europe. It has already made it into the Great Lakes watershed. Check the following advisory. invasivespeciesmanitoba.com/site/uploads/pdf/ISCM%20Fact%20Sheets/Round%20Goby%202013.pdf
Vernon, check carefully whether it was a goby or a sculpin. There are 4 species of sculpin native to Manitoba, and a couple of invasive goby species making their way towards Manitoba.. Here is an informative video describing the key difference between 2 genera. ua-cam.com/video/ZSGKrfLdYYU/v-deo.html
Our pleasure! And after looking into it, that is indeed a sculpin, a mottled sculpin.
Boy Vernon that is some beautiful looking country. It looks so much cooler than Lake Mead. PS I’m glad to see your wife still beating at the fishing game. Maybe not as many but bigger. OK tell her I said hi. We will talk to you later on.😊
Hey Ralph, thanks. The Wife does read the comment, and we all know she's the better fisherman 😉
Im Loving the videos!!! Have you ever thought of doing a little wpg meet up. Maybe get people to gather at a place and fish etc ?
Thanks, and I have. It is hard to have people show up in one spot, but I might do a meet up at some event or show someday. For no just keep an eye out for me, I often run into people out there.
Another awesome video! As a new fisherman I love these videos where you explain what you're using and what you're targeting. Tight lines Vernon!!
Thanks, I am glad you can enjoy these videos and learn with me.
You can recognize Bullhead by their square tail but mostly by their dark green/yellow coloration (even as juveniles) and the fact that they have thick, venomous spines on their fins. If they poke you with them you'll feel some heat and irritation there for a while.
Most Catfish have some sort of venomous spines. But I would rather stick to the tail and color to Id them. Thanks.
Lots of plecos over there
Yes, I have removed some when ever going down there.
This is so funny. I was fishing literally where you are standing last summer, far more anglers there. In 4 hours I saw a single catch - someone got a nice big walleye. That's it. I kept switching up techniques and baits and nothing! My mind is blown at the amount of fish you caught there. I might just go back, because until watching this video I'd written that spot off. Side note: I believe they are speaking Ukrainian
I do think it is also a time of year thing. But there should be some good walleye year round, the carp and drum might move out after spring.
You best shot at a Sturgeon is going to be at Pointe du Bois below the Dam (and it will require a boat and someone who knows the river because there are big rocks. Otherwise on the Red it is a lottery, almost impossible to target them and I think all of them that have been caught were by accident.
Yeah thanks Travis. I might just have to book a fishing charter for that. But I like your lottery comparison, might buy a few tickets myself.
@@FinallyFishing Hopefully it won't take as long as it took to get your first black crappie at Lake Mead (3 or 4 years, if I recall?)! I have a friend who caught a sturgeon from shore near Point du Bois. Beautiful scenery in that area too.
Awesome video, Vernon! 🏞🎣🩵
Thanks! 👍
Finally fishing kicks ass!!!! Great video very informative. Fish tough 👍
Thanks Tim, we will make a fisherman out of me someday.
Did you hike down by the bridge? I was just there today but all routes down seemed steep. I got about half way down one of them and pused out because i didnt have my Garmin InReach on me and u was by myself.
I have gone down by the bridge, but it is steep and dangerous. I would rather suggest taking the road next to the toilet and hike down. That's where I did this video.
Drums tend to go pink once caught. perhaps it was a caught and released fish/pet
Sounds like a stress response, maybe that fish had a bad week.
I've seen them go red like this after I keep them on a stringer.
The carp in manitoba waters seem a lot harder to catch. I don't really fish for them but have caught them on jigs.
Yeah I have lots a couple paddle tails to carp, but I will experiment with some baits and share if I figure something out. I know Carp fishing is not that common here, but it can be good fishing.
Thats awesome putting different baits out there. Nice test.
Thanks GuitarLessonCharts
Still successful. Those sturgeons must be out there. You’ll get them some or other time.
Rome was not build in a day, right. Thanks Joe.
I liked this video 📹... maybe no sturgeon fish 🐟 that you targeted, but the background is great 👏. The green gras and green trees 🌳 and the amazing cloud ☁️reflection on the water. Looked like a great outing (depending on the insect 🦟🪰 bites 🤔).
The ironic thing is, this is in the city, with fewer insects. The more picture perfect locations have more bugs. But glad you liked it and more locations coming.
The Red is still in flood stage! A lot of rain this Spring/Summer. It makes it harder to cast into the deep channel. Nevertheless, the mouth of the Seine River is indeed a very good place to fish. Thanks for the video.
Yeah the river is insanely high right now, easy to hook a bush or tree. At least we can still go fishing.
Feels good to fish at the same spot, as a famous person :D. Love your videos, keep up the good work.
Lol, don't know about the famous part, but Thanks. Might just run into you out there at some stage.
Great vid new friend here first time fishing here in bullhead city I’ll be there next time
Hey, there sure is some good fishing around there. Have fun bud.
Saw you at fort whyte today just as you were leaving the dock! Tight lines brother!!
Nice, say hi next time.
When did you record this video?
This one was on the 29th of May.
Hot dogs, steak, chicken, pork, you'll tear it up out there
Any protein would do, for the catfish that is. Well me too.
Well done.
Thanks
Ukrainian dude feeding his whole family for months.
Hey, carp curry ain't that bad.
Sorry that the carp is avoiding you , but I'm glad 👏 that you caught the pike. You mentioned that it is a small pike, how big does pike fish get?
They can grow big, I have seen some over 4 feet, 20lbs.
To carp or not to carp… that is the question. You’ll get them some or other time. Nice video.
Thanks Joe, we will get them at some stage.
When was this video filmed? It looks like dropshot and bobber is the way to go at Reynolds. I've been there 3x but never had a good day unfortunately
This one was May 16. I normally upload a week after fishing a spot. If the video is older I will mention it in the description.
Thanks for sharing. I'm one of your original Vegas fans and it's crazy to see that you moved to Canada. Did you move out there for the fishing?
Lol, I wish. No we moved for work, but the fishing is a nice added bonus. Oh and to escape the Vegas Heat, you'll be brave.
