  • Heading out to Lockport, Manitoba for some channel catfish fishing. In this video I kind off messed up the plan, but it just shows how good this spot really can be. Follow along as I explore these fast moving waters to see what I can catch out there.

You know Vernon, that first catfish you caught was way good size considering that it was a lightweight rod and reel. I guess it’s all about setting your drag right and having patience. This is Arizona and Nevada. Wishing you well.

Indeed Ralph. I think the cold water helps to not make the fish so angry, but it does take some patience on the light stuff. Thanks

Use cut bait, sucker or goldeye on the big circle and a 6oz weight. Big bait if you want big fish. I don't cast out more than 7-10 meters when the current is strong in spring. I was in that exact spot last night, the big cats have been caught so many times, they will take you into underwater logs/snags. Just let off the drag so they feel no tension and they will swim away after a short while and you can tighten up the drag and continue catching that fish. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Will get some bigger weights for when the river is raging like that.

Nice fishie and all of a sudden your gear is too light. Great stuff. Enjoy.

Thanks Joe. The Red River is flooding it's banks at the moment so the current does make my setup a little light. But, we will fix that in the future.

That spot is usually very snaggy. Further right or further left from that point is better. How was the current?

Very strong right now. The Red is flowing good. Good to know, thanks.
