  • It is time to kick the skunk. Follow along as I head out to Winnipeg's Lagimodière-Gaboury Park for some Red River Fishing. Let's find out what is willing to bite in spring in this cold Canadian river.

Hey Vernon, I’m sure glad you got the skunk out. Those were some small catfish but they were sure good looking ones healthy. Take care.😊

Indeed, thanks Ralph. The Red River is known for the big catfish, but they are clearly breading well.

Yesterday (local time) we took uncle H’s bait boat out to Rietvlei. It all went well until the boat’s electronics failed 100m off shore. Fortunately a northwesterly wind helped it drifting back towards us and we could retrieve it. The lesson learned was, stick to terra firma, especially if the water is only 8*C!
    Well done. You did well.

Glad you got the bait boat back. Using a remote controlled boat for carp is something most people reading this probably have not tried before.

I looked at a few specialized carp bait boats from the UK. Very impressive. $2500 but can bait with 4 different bait holds. There are some pretty decent carp around here, in the red, and lakes Winnipeg and Manitoba. My biggest out of the red was a 34" mirror carp. Only a handful of scales. Very few people actually drop bait or chum for carp around here. I have a few spots I wanna try that on. But places like the portage diversion flowing to lake Manitoba is closed to carp fishing right now cause all the bruisers are in there and in the delta marshes spawning. I've had a 32", 34", and a few 30s. I didn't have a weigh scale then though. I'd really like to try the British style of carp fishing and see how it works and what needs to be adapted for our waters. Lately, I've been fishing small species and smallmouth bass at the lake. It's more of a numbers game than bottom fishing. I'd like to see what carp and feeder fishing techniques could be used over here. Things like the zig rig. We have similar options but the UK techniques are precise, refined and unique. Practicing them will only make me a better fisherman.

The mount of the Seine is a good fishing spot. There is also a path that leads to the point on the other side of where you were fishing. I like hiking through this park, walking through there gives the illusion of being away from the city, while only being a 20 min walk from the down town! Glad to see you FINALLY catching fish. Looking forward to your next video.

Thanks Richard, it is a nice hiking and biking spot. Just want to mention that there where some homeless people on the other side, and later on other fisherman.

@@FinallyFishingu'll be surprised how hard they fight, when u accidentally hook into a 150lbs drunk, homeless man. But for real, I've had them sit down and chat for a while while fishing. One once offered to share a drink of hand sanitizer with me. I decided to pass on it. Some are friendly, others not all there. U could try a beer or $5 bill on a line to get them to come chat. I jest. I could take u to a few spots around the area, but I'm not sure if all of them would be sharable with a Google location. Fishing is really good out at my cabin too.

Will give that a try. I have had more luck with the minnows below Lockport, not caught that many above.
