  • Heading out to Winnipeg's main defense against floods in the Red River, the Courchaine Bridge. Follow along as I attempt a quick morning fishing session to see what fish I can manage to get out there. Just a heads up, new species alert for my life list.

Wow Vernon I can’t believe all the different species of fish that you were catching up there. Quite a bit different than Nevada and Arizona. All right young man you take care will talk to you later on.

You catching the 1ste pike and sucker fish is great 👍 ... but you know me ... the golden rays of sunlight 🌅 and the cloud masses later are so amazing to me. Thank you for a lovely video. I can only imagine how great the videos 📹 will be next summer ☀️.

Thanks, Susan. I am too looking forward to summer fishing, but just remember that each season has its own set of challenges. Summer might be filled with mosquitos.

Greater variety of fish than in the USA it seems. I suppose there are fewer anglers than in the USA. Lovely camouflage pattern on the Pike. Well done.

That particular spot, often has 20 people fishing. I can bike there but I've never fished there.

The Red River runs North in Manitoba, but South in the USA. So the USA portion joins the Mississippi river, and they have a few more species down there that don't make there way to Canada. But Cooler water does help sustain bigger fish and some cold water fish.

Great video. I didn't expect an ambush predator like pike in the silty waters of the Red, now it makes sense: at the edge, on rocky shore lines. Using lip grips and pliers is a brilliant idea for extracting hooks out of the mouth of pike: lots of sharp teeth in there!

Thanks! I know people will often grab pike by the gill plates, but I have not learn how to do this. I do not wish to do it wrong and hurt the fish by grabbing their gills. A skill I will learn out there at some stage. For now, I have lip grips and they seem to work good for the toothy critters.

Another spot that I have been to but have never fished. I have often peddled my bike there.

Yeah, this spots actually seems fishy. I can see that people often fish there, but also loose a lot of fishing line. Still fun to try and catch something.

Loads Tim, but right now is a bad time for spot hopping, But I will be heading to different lakes and ponds in summer.
