Prepping the Bench for drawers
The workbench is back in place. So now it's time to start serious work on the re-organization of it!!
I start but removing the vertical slider hardware of the under bench storage. More tearing apart. Then I remove the bottom stringer to reorient it to allow for more space under it for the broom to fit better when sweeping up!! Believe it or not, this was a main motivator for me to redo the bench!!
Then I spend a lot of time coming up with a kind of plan for the use of the under bench storage area. I decide to make it all drawers. So I take some time framing the bench for drawers openings.
In the end I have room for 16 drawers!! LOL I am some excited about all this storage!
Have a look at let me know if you think this is too many drawers. I bet you don't think so!! LOL
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the video. Please 'thumbs up' me and leave me some comments. And if you haven't done so already, please consider 'subscribing' to my channel. It sure helps my videos get noticed and my channel grow.
I hope you all have a great week.

A Simple Quick Repair
Переглядів 4147 годин тому
Simple, quick jobs. Do they even exist? The belt on my Husqvarna YTH21K42 ride on mower is always coming off the drive pulley. What a pain this is so I want to try and fix it. I did come checking and figured maybe the belt was too long. The Husqvarna manual doesn't show a length for the belt, but the part number matches a belt that was 101.4 inches long so I ordered that belt. But this is the b...
Starting to Put the Pieces Back Together
Переглядів 1 тис.16 годин тому
All the retro fit work is complete so now it's time to start putting thing back together!!! I have a dilemma though. I'm thinking I'd like to cut 3 feet of the end of the bench and then put my computer table in the corner. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should do this. I ended up putting the computer table in the corner to see how it would look. To be honest I wasn't sold on the idea. But...
Is Painting Walls Exciting

A big step in the shop reno - PAINTING DAY (or days in this case)!! Yeah!! :( I like doing home repairs, woodwork, mechanical repairs and electrical work. Heck I even like doing the laundry, the dishes and vacuuming the camp every now and then. But nothing compares to painting!!! Now don't read into this that I like painting, because that's not the case. I paint because I have to!! And sometime...
Sheathing the Workshop

A big step in the reno of the shop. Today I put the sheathing up!! A lot of work has gone into this project so far. And today we'll start to see some big changes. The sheathing going on the walls always makes for a dramatic change in the looks of things!! Some of the sheets went up as full sheets, but a few I had to cut to fit. That means I needed a workspace and space is at a premium in the sh...

The grass is always growing and it's at the point now where if I don't mow it soon, I'll need a tedder and a bailer!! So I get the Husqvarna, which is working great after the repairs, and go mow the lawn. I start at the garden. There is still lots of damage around the garden from Fiona that I haven't cle...

    No one is going to recognize these place as a "shop" once you're completed the whole thing! lol My dad told me a joke many a time, as he'd always forgot that he told me already...but anyway, one of them "dad" jokes I guess...he'd tell me that somewhere he fell ill with a furniture disease, where the effects are when your chest falls in to your drawers! LOL You're going to have a whole lot of drawers when you're finished...but dad always related it to the little tummy he had developed. Hope you and Nannie are able to enjoy a lovely weekend...a little bit of rain for tomorrow I hear, but maybe some sun on Sunday too!

    Hi Mike. Nice fix! Having to grind down the shaft the blades go on sure seems strange. 🤔 It doesn't take much of a difference in length for a belt to be useless. Is the belt tensioner working properly? On my mower, the tensioner is really pushing on that belt. Take care!

    • @GrampiesWorkshop
      @GrampiesWorkshop 2 дні тому

      How's she goin'? That's a good point Brian, but the tensioner is working good, as far as I could tell. Lots of tension on the belt. In the Husqvarna manual, it only listed the part number and didn't give a length. So when I went on Amazon, I found this belt that matched the part number and it said it was 101.4 inches long. I tried to measure the original belt but it was pretty stretched and damaged so that didn't work too good. I got the 101.4 inch belt and this is the one that kept coming off. Then when I searched Amazon again a few weeks ago, I found this belt that matched the Husqvarna part number and it said it was only 100 inches long. So there ya go. I think the original belt should be 100" long and now I have that one installed. It should be good now, but we'll see I guess. Griding down the stub shafts on the spindles I think was needed because the blades I bought were cheap ones and they weren't as thick as the originals. Take 'er easy and I hope you're over the 'man cold'!! LOL

    I use lock washer on my deck I had the same problem and I use a sir or cordless 3/8 impact to tighten them and take them off

    • @GrampiesWorkshop
      @GrampiesWorkshop 2 дні тому

      How's she goin'? A lock washer won't work in this case Bob. The spindle shaft was too long, or the blade too thin, and so the washer would just come up against the shaft and not hold the blade tight. That's what was going on here. On the old blades I took off last spring had Belleville washers on them. They worked as it pressed against the blade and not the shaft. Thanks for the comment though. Take care!!

    Hey Mike. In cases like this I am a fan of Red Locktite. Having to heat them up with a Mapp torch is fine as no Damage to the rest of the deck will happen.Just have a wet cloth handy so as not to damage the seals in the bearings. The blade iself will act as a sink. V-belts are not the greatest way to get power transmission. Problem here is the belt has to switch planes. It will then only track well on one plane or the other. It would be great if they use a drive shaft. They prefer to have an angle to them so all 4 bearings/cups are being used. Only problem there is they will last far longer and not need more repairs and their asociated parts eh. Well bud you may be seeing more wear and tear but you know the know and have the tools to make it happen for a good long time yet. Take care my old friend. Hugs for Nannie J of course.

      How's she goin'? Well Dean when I put the blades on last spring I put 'Never Seize' on them because I have had them rust and seize up. And this is what happens, it was almost completely unscrewed, and that had me almost completely unscrewed too!! LOL Maybe blue Loctite instead of red. That way I can get it apart with the strong arm and the Loctite might prevent it from rusting and seizing too. I think they use belts for power transmission because it's cheaper to make and design than trying to get a drive shaft installation done. Oh well, $30 a belt every year isn't too bad I guess eh!! I'll give Nannie a hug for ya buddy and we'll talk to ya!!!

      How's she goin'? Noel the blades I bought this time were cheaper ones and I think they make them thinner so they can be cheaper. Having the blade bolt come loose was a surprise for me though. Maybe you should not put anti seize on them. 🤷🏻‍♂️. I would put a little Goop on the treads, then once tight put a little on the nut and stud. And the Goop will allow the nut to be takin off.

      I put anti seize on an oil drain nipple with cap. Not sure why I did that, any way the nipple fell out. And all the oil came out. Never did that again. Not I don’t mean lock tight Mike. I use the Goop on a lot of stuff. I’ve showen it before. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋

    • @GrampiesWorkshop
      @GrampiesWorkshop 3 дні тому

      How's she goin'? Thanks a lot for dropping by! I appreciate it!! A think a thicker washer wouldn't have fixed the loose blades as the washer was coming up against the stub shaft because it was longer than the blade was thick. I did notice on the old blades I removed back in the spring, that one washer was cupped, like a belleville washer. That would have worked. Thanks for the comment and I hope you comment again on the next video!! Take 'er easy!!

      @GrampiesWorkshop 3 дні тому

      How's she goin'? A simple repair, like changing the belt, turned into some heavy duty repairs and the 15 minute belt change turned into an hours job!! And the replacement market is buyer beware eh. I do find on Amazon, for the most part, the descriptions are pretty complete. But since the Husqvarna manual didn't give the belt length I only had the part number to go on, and it said the belt was 101.4 inches long. It turned out that was too long. Now I know.
