The work never stops at Grampie's Workshop. You are well on your way to finishing up another cool project and I'm sure it will work out well. Keep up the great work Mike and Prayers for Nannie. Hope she is feeling much better. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Hello there Larry! Thanks so much for the prayers for Nannie. She is doing pretty good lately. These braces should hold up pretty well I'm hoping!! LOL Almost have the tractor ready for winter now! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Take 'er easy!!
Comment ca va mon ami? Thanks for the nice comment Dave. We sure do like the lake and on days like this it is especially refreshing to be able to look out and see this view! I hope the angle iron braces hold up. We'll watch over the winter and if they show signs of failing I guess I'll have to 'design' some other solution!! LOL A la prochaine!!
How's she goin'? Ha Ha Ha! A bigger tractor eh! Sometimes I think a bigger tractor would be some nice, but then I think of all the attachments I have for the GC2300 and the shed and think all these would be to be upgraded and the feeling quickly passes!! LOL I hope I never get to use these wings this winter!! Take 'er easy!
Well Mike I guess it want be to much longer before that 🌨☃ falls hopefully it will stay there with you since you're very well prepared! eh! Beautiful view of the lake and surrounding area 😎
Good day eh! Thank you for your prayers Mike. They sure are appreciated!! I think these braces will be a good alternative to the thin wall tubing. Thanks for the watch. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Roger. These braces are a lot stronger than the thin wall tubing and the plywood spacer blocks are a better solution than the 2 X 4 too. So I hope this makes out OK this winter. But in case it doesn't, I'm ready to come up with another solution! LOL Take 'er easy!
Good evening Mike, looks like a must stronger solution. Looking forward to the first snowfall test. The lake looks beautiful! Have a great weekend, Ben👋😎👍
How's she goin'? Thanks Ben. On days like this the lake sure is nice to look at, but the last 3 days have been wet, windy and wild and the lake was not as pleasant!! LOL But we'll take it anyways!! I hope the braces last the winter. If they fail, I'll try and figure what went wrong and 'design' a fix!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Yes Lloyd, they have taken on quite a life eh! I hope this is the last version. But look at Microsoft Windows, they are on version 11 already, so I'm not doing too bad eh! LOL Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks for the nice comment. The snow is coming, I'm pretty sure of that, and when it gets here these wings will be put to the test for sure!! Glad you like the Massey videos. Here's a link to a playlist about my Massey GC2300 and some of the mods I made for it over the years!! ua-cam.com/video/AP254u2NzGM/v-deo.html Thanks for tuning in. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Bob. You know I started out like you, not feeling good about making vids or editing. So stick with it. You'll get better each time !! Take 'er easy!!
I was glad to see you wearing the apron while you were cutting and grinding. This set of braces look super strong. Hopefully they will stand up for you regardless of how much snow we may get.
I didn't know you had a place for metals or whatever & they are just sitting outside, sooo i guess you will have to build a room to keep them in. I don't want you to run out of ideas for wood building jobs cause they are my favorite & also painting. LoL you built wings for your tractor & that was a good video.Well go have your supper & i'll catch you Tuesday. Love ya
My metal storage rack is in a tent shelter out behind the shop. Things are out of the weather but not inside!! It works pretty good. Sorry I had no wood working or painting in this video!! LOL Love ya!!!
How's she goin'? When I made these Noel, I was thinking the ends look to be the weak link. I figured I could always weld in a gusset of some sort but the way I weld, I think I'll wait and see if it fails first! LOL Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Doug!! I hope so too. I think the tabs that connect to the wing are the weak point now. We'll see though!! Thanks for the support brother!! You Rock!! Take 'er easy!!
Nice work Mike. The angle iron is a good choice. The pipe would have been better under tension. The compressive load will bend the ends like you found. A friend of mine runs an excavating business and snow plowing in the winter. The snow work is harder on the equipment than digging soil. If you have the time and it's not too cold to weld, putting a couple gussets on the tabs will help them endure the compression load. On the wing end of the brace I would fill the gap where you cut away the material to let it bend. That will support the weak point where the side was cut away. On the mold board end I would put a gusset over the top of the brace and a couple inches past the end of the cut away side. That will again support the tab at its weakest point right where the cut away side starts. Cutting some of the angle right at the bend will give you two gussets. The wooden spacers can be reinforced by putting a piece of tubing through where the bolt holes are. That will allow the pipe to handle the compression load and transfer it to the steel plate of the mold board. Good luck with your wings
How's she goin'? Thanks for these ideas Dave. The thin wall tubing I knew pretty well from the start would not be a good solution. If you noticed in the video I have some heavy wall tubing that would be better I think, but there is still the issue of having to flatten the ends and that introduces a weak point eh. The gussets sound like a good solution to help prevent the bending. I'm going to work with what I have for the winter and monitor for failure. When that happens I think I'll try the gussets like you describe here. Thanks again and take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Rick the tubing I had was thin wall and with the flattened ends, it turned out to be pretty weak really. I think the angle iron will be stronger. But time will be the best test so we'll see. Thanks for asking after Nannie. She is doing pretty good. Still battling her bowel and bladder issues but we were in to see the hip doc last week and he said all is well with her hip replacement. I sure hope you are hanging in there. I'll be praying for you and your family buddy!! Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Gator. I hope you're right!! I think the weak link is the ends. But if they show signs of failure I guess I'll have to look at another solution! LOL Take 'er easy!
How's she goin'? Oh man, Cathy I hope you're right about no snow. I like the snow, but if we only got a little at Christmas, I'd be OK with that!! LOL Thanks for the love and prayers. Take 'er easy!
Well, Mike! You know what they say when a snow pusher gets its wings, a bell will ring! The angle iron will be much better for braces buddy. Good job! Take care.
How's she goin'? Ha Ha Ha!! So that what that ringing noise was I was hearing! LOL I hope I don't have to use these wings for a while yet John, but when it's time I think they will work good!! Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Don, I think you're like me in that anything that we don't use right away gets squirreled away for use latter on some other kind of shop made project eh!! And when it comes to steel, I never throw any bits away. I have a drawer and a 5 gallon pail filled to capacity with steel parts and cutoff pieces!! And the pile keeps growing and I don't mind that a bit!! LOL Thanks for watching. You stay warm too brother! Take 'er easy!!
Nice little metal store there Mike, we throw zero out. You obviously prefer wood to metalwork but you do a fine job in both materials. They look much better, much stronger.
Hello there Steve!! I like to work with metal but I have a long ways to go to get good at it!! My welding skills are off the chart, but in the wrong direction!! LOL I think these wings will be able to stand up to the snow this winter. I appreciate you watching. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Jason. I think the braces are a lot stronger. I'll keep an eye on them this winter and if I see some problem spots I'll try and head them off early!! Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
I think it is going to work just fine and dandy. Easy to gusset the angle if you find it is bending. Now you just have to wait for some snow. We are getting our first big dump this weekend, not looking forward to it. Thanks Mike. Stevo
How's she goin'? I think the angle is definitely stronger than the thin wall tubing eh, but the tab ends may still suffer from the force of plowing. But like you say, a gusset here and there and it should be OK. I saw on the news where you folks are supposed to get a dumping of snow. I hope it doesn't cause too much trouble!! Take care!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Del!! The thin wall tubes looked nice but they weren't very strong. The angle iron is a lot better. But I think where the tabs connect to the wing might be a weak point still. I'll have to watch that this winter and make the necessary 'mods' if it fails!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Never enough metal, metal is like gold lol, so many things you can do with it, going to keep mine wings wood for now, till I have a problem with them, then fix it, you have a bigger tractor 👍🚜🍺
Hello there Len! I remember seeing your wings. They looked great! The wood I used for my first version of wings was an old piece of counter top made for particle board. And particle board and wet don't go too good together eh!! I agree, metal scraps are like gold for sure!! Take 'er easy!!
Rock solid forsure. Mike the long range forecast from environment canada says eastern canada will have below average snowfall so get prepared for the most snow in 50 years :)
How's she goin'? Ha Ha Ha! You know what Steve? You're probably way closer to being right than the weather guys eh!! LOL Thanks for the comment. Take 'er easy!!
Mike, keep an eye on the weather forecast. looks like a good potential for a north easter with quite a bit of snow for next weekend. Might be a cold wind driven rain were I am with my elderly parents. At my place in New Hampshire might be a differant story.
How's she goin'? Thanks for the heads up Vicky!! Are you with your parents just for a visit? I hope they are doing OK. I expect the snow is not far away although the weather prognosticators are saying we should have a mild winter. But you know weather forecasts, they are more often than not wrong!! LOL Great to see your comment. Thanks for stopping by. Take 'er easy!!
Good evening Mike that looks like it will be a lot stronger for sure we had snow here Tuesday about 10 cms same colour as last year lol you guys have a great weekend take care
How's she goin'? Oh Oh, 10 cms and the same color as last year. That sounds like it might be the makings of a bad winter!! LOL Thanks for commenting Tom. I enjoyed it!! Take 'er easy!!
The new supports look good, it will be interesting to see if they bend. If they do, with angle iron it will be much easier to weld in some addition support
How's she goin'? Thanks Joseph. I think the angle is stronger than the tubing and like you say, if it fails, it'll be easier to work with than the thin wall tube for sure. Thanks for the comment Joseph. Take 'er easy!!
Let the snow fly….. lol that looks like a sturdier setup Mike. It’s great to have a stash of metal, I do the same boy o boy metal is some expensive to buy new wow. Great work eh take care
How's she goin'? Well Russell, the plow is ready for snow, but I'm not!! LOL But the way the wind was blowing this week though, I think I should be building a hurricane shelter instead of prepping snow gear eh!! Thanks for the visit and take 'er easy!!
Hi Mike, good idea but i think it may bend at the wing end, might have to weld in some shaped metal to support the bend, but fingers crossed it holds up to pushing snow 👍👍
How's she goin'? Thanks Nev. I was leaning towards welding in a gusset of some sort to strengthen the ends. We'll try it like this first though because I'm not much of a welder!! LOL Thanks for the visit buddy!! Take 'er easy!!
Hope we arent clearing snow anytime soon, but neat to be prepared. I tuned my snoblower up last weekend along with checking on the generator. Maybe if were prepared, we wont need it
Hey there Chris!! Being prepared is a good way to trick winter into not arriving too soon. Good idea to get the generator ready. That's a job I need to tend too real soon too!! Love ya!!
Hello Grampie. I would say the angle iron should work out better. It probably won't be long before you can test it lol. Have a good Sunday to you and Nannie 🙏👍👍
How's she goin'? Thanks Artie. The angle iron is way stronger than the thin wall tubing, so I hope it will last! But if it doesn't it'll just mean going back to the drawing board again and another video!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Old bed frames have angle but thin. The metal rack looks like it might’ve had some of that bed frame stuff on it. The braces are going to be so much stronger. Good jobMike. The lake does look good too.
How's she goin'? I did have some bed frame rails but the sides on them are not equal and I figured that might make it harder to get them to fit the way I wanted. I also find the bed frames are pretty 'brittle' if that's the right way to describe it. Not too sure how they would bend. This angle that I used came on a shipping crate that my Woodland Mills chipper came in and I knew it would be easy to bend. Baloney season has come and gone and I was shut out again this year!! :-( Take 'er easy!!
Hello there Brain. Yes you're right. Heavier angle would have been better. But my metal stock pile is limited!! LOL I hope these braces make it through the winter, but if they fail, I'll go back to the drawing board again!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? That would make an 'epic' video for sure. Me shoveling!! It would also be a 'rare' video to catch me actually doing physical work!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Hey mike. That is a great stash of bed rails n-stuff. I can email you on how to make them really skookum strong with what you have there. Just let me know ole son. Unless you have had any failure with the pipe braces they are stronger than the angle ones. Just the nature of the beast. You have made them so give em a go.Holler when you need bud.
How's she goin'? Thanks Dean. I would like to have your input on how to make stronger braces. These angle iron ones are stronger than the tubing I used last year. The tubing was very thin wall and really had no strength especially where I flattened them to make the hole and connection points. I figure I'll use these till they start to fail, or fail outright, and then go back to the drawing board. But if you can offer some ideas they would be much appreciated!! Thanks Dean. You rock brother! Take 'er easy!!
Ho's things there Mike? They are way, way better than the original, that's for sure. The lake is looking beautiful. Surprised to see you still wearing a short-sleeved shirt in mid-November. Love to Nannie
How's she goin'? Great to see you Pascal!! Thanks for stopping by!! I have a heat pump in the shop and so it's short sleeve temps in there now!! LOL I hope the new wing supports are strong enough to make it through the winter. I hope too that everything is going good with you folks. I have been watching some of your videos and you sure are reviewing lots of neat items. Take 'er easy!!
@@GrampiesWorkshop That is great Mike. Yeah I am keeping busy with my other 'boopolo' channel which is mainly repeat reviews from my Amazon page (I have a Canadian page too 🤣🤣). I have another marathon in January, so I am training for that now. Our Ciara is now 9 and running as well. I also became a grandfather a few weeks ago.
@@IrishChippy Way to go Pascal!!! Congrats on being a grandfather. You'll love that role!! Janet's brother and his wife do a lot of road runs and their daughter used to run with them too. That is so nice!! Good luck in the Marathon and take care!!
Looks like it should work, but if you keep making the parts stronger you're going to start bending the plow! We had one 4" snow on Halloween, that melted quickly. Nothing since. but its going to get cold next week! 🥶Cheers!
How's she goin'? Ha Ha Ha! That's a scary thought that I could make the wings and braces so strong the blade would bend!! LOL We have had some cold days here but really only flurries so far. But we know it'll get here eventually eh!! So I may as well get ready now before it's too cold outside to work! LOL Take 'er easy!
I would probably go ahead and gusset the end's of that angle iron. But on the other hand if you do that then you might just find the next weak link which might be worse than that angle giving a little. Did I miss you painting the storage rack at the end of your bench? Loos good. Continued prayers and I'll see you on the next one.
How's she goin'? Thanks for your continued prayers Ronnie! God bless you! That's a good point about adding the gusset only to find the next weak link! LOL I didn't paint the storage cabinet yet Ronnie. It just looks like it is because the wood panel was prefinished! Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? The thin wall tubing I had on the brace before was really weak where it flattened out for the connection point. I think the angle is stronger mainly because it's 3/16" think. If it bends at the tabs though I guess I'll be back at the drawing board! LOL Take 'er easy and thanks for watching.
Hello there Kenny! Right on!! I hope these braces work out OK. They should be better than the thin wall tubing eh!! Many thanks for your visit tonight. Take 'er easy!!
Awesome G《☆》Good idea with the Angle Iron👍🏾🍺🥪I can smell the Chop Saw thru my phone😁🤳Sparks a Flyin eh✌🏼😎☯️
How's she goin'? Thanks Bdog!! The metal cut off saw is nice. I like it and it sure does give a great light show!! LOL Take 'er easy!!

How's she goin'?

Take 'er easy!!
angle iron is pretty strong so I think that'll work.
Hello there Vernon! I hope it works good too Vernon. I think the ends are the weak link so I'll keep an eye on them this winter.
@ Still time for a Baloney REPORT 😎👍🥓🥓
@@EverydayProjects It's coming. I'm waiting for some decent weather to film it!!
@ And snow to track the slippery little fellas? 🥓🥓😵💫😎✅
Would have been nice to have had a heavier angle but it’s sure going to be stronger!
Hello there Brain. Yes you're right. Heavier angle would have been better. But my metal stock pile is limited!! LOL I hope these braces make it through the winter, but if they fail, I'll go back to the drawing board again!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Just get a shovel, the exercise is Epic!⛄❄🌨🏔🏂
@@GrampiesWorkshop I will holler on an email this wkend my dear friend.
@@TomokosEnterprize Thanks Dean!!
@@GrampiesWorkshop My pleasure. Just think piramids, LOL. See ya tomorrow old friend.
@@TomokosEnterprize The old 'law of threes' eh!! LOL
Not sure if you actually made it stronger or not........time will tell Mike..........be sure to let us know.........
You're cooking with gas now, buddy. That should hold up good for ya Mike. Nice job.
Hello there Kenny! Right on!! I hope these braces work out OK. They should be better than the thin wall tubing eh!! Many thanks for your visit tonight. Take 'er easy!!
