Well look at you getting pretty fancy making boxes & they look great and yes painting is also on the list.. love it! I can't believe you of all people ran out of glue...Lol You are enjoying yourself redoing your work shop. It is going to get you to enjoy painting too. Good job you are doing.. looks so much better already! Love ya
Hard to believe I agree, but I did run out of glue. Actually I had about 1/2 a bottle but it froze last winter and it's no good after it freezes. I got some more glue yesterday though so all is well in La La land again!! LOL Love ya!!
Some great info, i watch a woodworking channel, a few really, but i seen similar jigs but i have to say this one is the best and more simple. Great job mike im glad nannie thought you well😊
How's she goin'? Thanks Jason!! When I was looking for info on box joints a lot of the jigs I saw were 'commercial' ones and when you check the price it would scare ya. Making my own seemed like the thing to do, especially for me, being cheap and all!! LOL Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks John!! I rarely throw anything away and my shop is filled with off cuts because of this, but they come in handy. I made this box with pieces from the old bench tear down. I don't think I have enough scrap to make many more of these boxes though, so I might have to open up the wallet one of these days!! LOL Thanks a lot for tuning in and commenting. Take 'er easy!
The finger joints were very cool but as you mentioned, it can get very confusing very quickly. They look fantastic and thanks for talking through the process
How's she goin'? Thanks for the comment Joseph!! It is confusing to try and keep the orientation correct on these pieces as you cut them. I found identifying each corner and the top side sure helped. The box joint is a vert strong joint and these boxes will stand up pretty good!! Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Artie. The box joint is some strong and this box will be great for storing stuff I rarely access. Thanks for commenting. Have a great week Artie!!
You have the patients Mike that box turned out awesome 👍, A little paint it will look great on that shelf, Your starting to enjoy the work space you created this summer ❤, Have an awesome weekend
How's she goin'? Thanks Don! I do like how this box turned out and it wasn't that hard to make this joint. For my 1st try I like the results. I have painted this box already and it does look good except you can't see the box joints since the paint covers them!! LOL Oh well eh!! Take 'er easy!!
I built a box joint jig similar to uours Made several boxes with it. When Lydia 6:10 mentioned she didn't need any more boxes I knew it was time to put it away. It's in a bin out in the Annex in case I need it. It makes a very strong joint. I used a standard rip blade because I didn't have a dado. It took a lot of passes to make the joint. About 4 times as many as you did with a 1/2" dado blade. I'm going to suggest getting a diamond file. I was sble to sharpen carbide tipped blades in about 20 mintes each. My current dado blade has just two teeth per each center dado blade. I knowl dados are cheaper now but I don't have to wait for delivery or drive to the big box 24 miles round trip. In ny case you will be happy we ith those stout boxes. Here's a trick. While you are gluing rub some sawdust into the joint. When you are sanding the pins flat there won't be any gap.😊😎
How's she goin'? I can see why you ended up making a lot of boxes with this joint. It's a good strong joint and makes an excellent box. One of these days I'm going to try my hand at sharpening a saw blade. I tried once before and failed pretty bad. LOL I knew about the sawdust in the glued joint trick but these joints had so much tear out and ragged edges, it was hard to get the joints to close up even half ways close. Thanks for commenting Dave. I know you're busy so I appreciate your time. Take 'er easy!!
That that is some fine woodworking Mr. Mike. Bet everything will look great once the other boxes are built and painted. Have fun. Hope Nannie is feeling better.
How's she goin'? Thanks for asking after Nannie Larry. She is doing pretty good the last while!! I like how this joint turned out. With a sharp dado stack I'm sure the joints will fit together a bit better and then I'll be able to make more boxes like this. Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
A good while back I made these Box Joints. Soon after I discovered dovetails and never looked back. You have a nice tension/fit happening there my friend. Take care my friend !
How's she goin'? Ha Ha Ha! Don't rush me Dean!! LOL Baby steps here buddy!! This is my 1st attempt at a box joint. I don't have a dovetail bit for my router and no way was I going to hand cut 96 dove tails!! LOL The box turned out pretty good and it sure is strong Take 'er easy!
@@TomokosEnterprize I have thought about getting a dovetail jig many times. The joint looks so nice eh, especially with solid wood and not plywood. But even plywood, if the tear out and voids are minimal, looks nice with a dovetail!! Take care!!
I am at a similar stage in my shop as you are here Mike.........and you are giving me some great ideas............I am always learning when I tune into Grampies Workshop.....a nice addition to the shop Mike...thanks for this.
How's she goin'? Thanks Bryan. These box joints are super strong and, with this jig, are pretty easy to make. Isn't it fun trying to organize a shop!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? It was a challenge for my wore out brain to manage the orientations, but I got 'er done. It's key to mark the tops and corners I think. I found that helped a lot. What a strong joint this make Brian. The box turned out nice and I plan on making a bunch more of them!! Thanks for dropping by tonight. Take 'er easy!!
Hello there Cathy!! Thanks!! I get these ideas for something I need or want or could use and then I try and figure out how I could make it! Sometimes it's a success story!! Thanks for the prayers and take 'er easy!
Hey there Steve!! This is a very strong joint. I never made a box with this joinery before either and I like this so I'm going to make several more!! Thanks for the visit. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Gator I bet there is not one workshop in all of Canada that doesn't have a milk crate or 2 up on a shelf. They sure do make great storage boxes. I have had several of them over the years, but they are slowly breaking and getting to the point where they no longer do the job. But man they were the answer eh!! Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
Comment ca va mon ami? Merci beaucoup!! This was my 1st try at making a box joint. The jig worked pretty good, but needs some improvements! LOL A la prochaine!!
Hello there Tom!! Thanks my friend! My 1st time making box joints and they turned out pretty good. So I think I'll make a bunch more of these boxes!! Have a great weekend Tom and take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Nev. One of the joints was pretty loose and I don't know why, but the other 3 fit really good. The box is some strong! Thanks for dropping by and take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate your time. Your videos are very interesting and you share some beautiful spots. Keep up the great videos!! Take 'er easy!!
I like that Mr. Mike! I have tried several ways to do this with no success... im gonna try your way next time I get the notions to make a box!! Great job!!
How's she goin'? I have never made a box joint before and I think this one turned out pretty good!! I think a sharp dado stack will make a big difference as there was a lot of tear out from my dado stack!! The joint would fit together better if the fingers were cut nice and crisp!! Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend and take 'er easy!
How's she goin'? You thought it was epically complex, you should have been here with me!! I left a lot of video out of this because of all the pauses and shots of me scratching my head as I worked my way through this one!! LOL Thansk for commenting. Take 'er easy!!
Hello there Mike. Many thanks for your continued intercessions and petitions for Nannie and I!! These box joints have to be the strongest eh!! And it didn't turn out too bad either! Have a great weekend Mike and take 'er easy!!
Hello there Garry!! Thanks for the comment. I wanted to have strong boxes in case I put some heavy stuff in them. And I always wanted to make a box joint box. So I got to kill 2 birds with one stone here!! LOL I hope a new Dado stack will cut the fingers better though!! Take 'er easy!!
Rugged but pretty damn good. They say that it is the strongest joint. Im not sure who they are but if grampie uses it then it must be well built. Nice job Mike.
How's she goin"? Ha Ha Ha!! Well I know they sure are strong!! I got some glue today and glued it up. Man - it's as tough as Arber Xhekaj!! Thanks for tuning in and have a great weekend!!!
Well Mike you sure are the bees-knees to box joint jigging and box building and banging...you should have your own billboard! LOL I got a kick out of them TD ads on TV when I first saw them! You certainly are going all out to make that shop shine and will soon be a great showpiece of your craftmanship! Take care, have a great weekend, and always hope that Nannie too is making out fine.
Hello there Bruce and Otis!! Thanks for the nice comment. Janet is doing pretty good lately but far from where we want her to be. I laughed when I read 'you should have your own billboard" LOL Thanks for the chuckle. It's fun to work in the shop and make things that make it more 'custom'!! Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
That is a great project to do. The box joint is perfect for a cool box and the important part is you custom build it to the size you want. Thanks. Mike. Stevo
How's she goin'? Thanks Stevo! Yes sir, the box joint makes for a nice looking joint plus it's very strong and I can make these boxes as big or as small as I need!! I even painted this one. It doesn't look too bad with some paint on it! LOL Take 'er easy!!

I like your pex air line! Going to steal that and run a line to the front of my garage. Nice job on the box jig! Can jig saw out some handles on the side as well. 👍 enjoy the weekend!
How's she goin'? Thanks Mike. The 'PEX' line is actually a 50 foot run of air line. I have some outlets around the shop, but most are inaccessible now due to the renos. But that will get squared away in time. The box turned out nice. It sure is a strong joint. Thanks for the visit Mike. Take 'er easy!!
