How's she goin'? I have to admit, this turned into a pretty complicated build. That may be because I wasn't too sure what or how I was going to make it. When I designed it, in my mind it worked perfect, but in reality, it's a tricky thing to build and accuracy is critical!! Take 'er easy!
Hello Grampie. Yes it does seem complex. I know what you mean about getting a job done in one video. Sometimes it takes me several lol. Good job so far my friend. Have a good day 🙏🔧👍
How's she goin'? Thanks Artie! When I make a video I like to include all the detail or as much as I can. But sometimes that makes the video way too long. I don't like posting videos longer than 15 minutes, although I do it from time to time. ;-( So I made this into 2 parts and hopefully it'll be OK. Have a great week Artie and take 'er easy!!
Always good to have a plan. Having the ability to make wider fingers-joints and box joint openings will be handy for making different size boxes. I always use chainsaw files to open up holes too. They're handy. Best that you cut the base a little long and trimmed it. That's WAY better than putting lumber in the board stretcher overnight.
How's she goin'? As careful as I was to get that base right I messed that up. But a little masking tape and all is right in the world again! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Complex, yes. Lots of things to consider, especially when making a prototype. I have never successfully constructed a jig to date. I keep thinking a sled for my table saw would be lovely, just haven't made the plunge yet. Thank you for sharing your thought process. Praying for you and Nannie. 😊
How's she goin'? Thanks for watching and thanks for your prayers for Nannie. She is doing pretty good but she has bowel and bladder issues that are causing her a lot of discomfort and pain. I would highly recommend a table saw sled. They are pretty handy and I use mine a lot. I kind of conceived this jig from all the videos I watched about them. Trouble is, my hands are having trouble making what my brain envisioned!! LOL It'll work out OK though I think!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
As it turned out the cure was as simple as 2 small and short screws. These jigs and fixtures always take a lot more time than we think. Thats OK as once done I call them "Money in the bank" I had shelves of them when I was still at work. Once the boss understood how much time they saved I was making things in a fraction of the time. I am sure after watching this a bunch more of these jigs will be born all over the place. WOO HOO on you fella !
How's she goin'? Thanks again Dean. I already see things on this jig that I would do different if I make another version. I guess that's called 'development' eh!! LOL Thanks for your great support and Merry Christmas! Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Dave. I'm not exactly sure how all this will come together. I have a vision of how I think it will work, but until I make it, I'm not to sure. But one of the things I'm after is for it to be adaptable to multi-size box joints. We'll see how that goes in the next video!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Thanks Nev. I won't lie, this was complicated for me to make. But I think it'll be a better box joint jig though!! LOL Take 'er easy!!!
How's she goin'? Cathy you can tell I 'm not too sure what's up with this project as I didn't explain it very clear!! LOL It did come together OK though. Thanks for your prayers. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? If you need to find out something about whatever, UA-cam will have a video about it!! LOL Thanks for the support Bdog and Merry Christmas!! Take 'er easy!!
This is a cool project and UA-cam research is always a good way to start. I think it is a complex build due to how exact everything has to be but I also think it is good to not rush it or take any shortcuts. I am enjoying following along
How's she goin'? You got that right Joseph. Accuracy is key to this jig. And I missed on the base width. And it seems to me with any wood project, accuracy is often times missed even though it looked accurate. I think the wood changes with humidity and that makes a difference, as small as it is!! Thanks for watching and I hope you like the next part too. Take 'er easy!!
I remember my dad having jigs of all sorts hanging on his garage wall. I remember a jig for cabinet doorplythey are complex but once made they save a lot of time.
How's she goin'? Jigs are good fun and who doesn't live a good Jig, or even a reel for that matter, or both!! LOL I hope this jig will work out OK. It's turning into a bigger project than I thought. Thanks for watching Kenny. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? I didn't expect this jig would be so tricky to make. But it's proving to be a challenge for sure!! Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Gator when I dreamed up this design everything worked great in my mind's eye. However, in reality, I am having lots of problems with making the jig. I think it will be better than what I had, but certainly not as good as what I had envisioned!! LOL Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? The idea I have for this jig is a good one I think. My trouble is trying to get my hands to make what my mind saw!! LOL I think it'll be good though. Thanks for dropping by Lloyd! Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Ha Ha ha! Well Larry, this build got tricky pretty quick. When I dreamed this up in my mind it was pretty simple to build. But when I actually started to build it, well let's just say I can relate to what you are saying!! LOL Thanks for tuning in and take 'er easy!!!
Hey Mike. Once you get on a new happening in the shop you stay with it till it can't be bettered any further. My kind of opperator for sure. When I made my first sled It had just enough play in it that was unexpendible so I went to using both slots. Getting them both paralel with each other was not easy but I stayed with it.
How's she goin'? I hear ya Dean. This jig is working out OK but the sliders are not parallel and the width is off my a touch too and that is eating my lunch now when I use the jig. It's not as accurate as I want it or need it to be. But having the movable front fence is helping to cover up the inadequacies with the accuracy!! Thanks for watching Dean. Take 'er easy!!
Making good use of that awesome workbench! I prefer for videos demonstrating something like this to be longer and even in multiple parts, rather glaze over or skip entire parts of the process. I'm a nerd that likes to build things and see how others build things. I've learned a few things just from watching your channel over the years, Mike
How's she goin'? Thanks for that vote of confidence Bruce. When I make a video I like to show as much detail as I can, because, I'm like you I guess, I like to see how it's built. But this video was getting pretty long so I made it in 2 parts. I don't like to post videos that are over 15 minutes. But I have done that many times in past! LOL Thanks for watching. Stay tuned for part 2. I actually finish the jig!! Take 'er easy!!
How's shew goin'? Thanks Vernon. It sure is a test of my ability. It's way more complicated than I thought it would be. Should be good for making various sizes of box joints though. Take 'er easy!!
I have’t done much with jigs before. You lost me about 1 minute in! 😄 looks like a huge improvement over the original. One day ill get to doing finer wood working.
How's she goin'? Brain I found this jig complicated to make. That's probably why I lost you as I wasn't too sure exactly how to explain what I was doing. I did have the idea in my mind's eye of what I wanted to end up with. But it was one of those projects that, until you do it, you're not too sure how to do it!! LOL Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
I guess I knew why you were doing that, and I know you won’t be rough housing them. 🤭🤭🤭 I was just wondering. I’mmmmm, not skilled like you are Mike. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋 Ya crazy weather. Last December was the same way. Two days at 13C here. Would be nice if it got cool and stayed cool. With about 10 cm of snow each week. Every thing would be froze, but the buildings warm. Looks like maybe another January thaw mid next week. We will see. Janet and you have a great week. 🎄🎄🎄🎄👍🏻👋👍🏻👋
How's she goin'? I agree Noel, a good foot or so of snow that stayed around. That would draft proof a lot of foundations and make things a lot warmer!! Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Ha Ha Ha!! Well Tom I thought I had this jig all figured out after me making the plans and watching a bunch of vids on UA-cam and all, but I'm almost where you are on it right now. This project is getting more complexer by the minute!! LOL Thanks for watching. Take care!!
Hi Mike. You bet it’s complex for me. 🤭🤭 Interesting build. You’re a master at it. Im wondering. You say you want bigger fingers for the box corners. Would that make the corner weaker. Because of less contact points. Just wondering. Have a great day. You and Nannie. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋
How's she goin'? That's a good point Noel. I believe the joint will be weaker with bigger fingers. But it cuts down on the amount of milling I have to do and that was my desire to have the bigger fingers. I think, for the size of the box, they will still be plenty strong! Man the weather is crazy eh. -16 one day, then snow, then freezing rain and now rain. We had a year's worth of weather in 3 days!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? Right on Len. I dreamt up this plan in bed one night and I have to say, it was way harder to make it in real life than it was in my thoughts!! LOL Thanks for watching. Take 'er easy!!
How's she goin'? I have the vision of what I want for this project Rick, but it's one of those projects that, until I make it, I'm not too sure how it'll get done!! That makes it hard for me to explain it!!! LOL Thanks for tuning in and I bet your dad could make box joints without a jig! Take care!!

Hello there Mike. Thanks again for the prayers. This jig will be better, but it's taking about all my wits to make it!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Wow definitely complex but if anyone can figure it out you can.
Well I'm about one cut ahead of this build so far! I just hope my hands can make what my mind sees!! LOL Love ya!!

Oh yeah! It's complex. Well, for me anyway. Dear ol' Dad, an incredible carpenter, finish trim, and cabinet maker, would not think so.
