North Country Trail | 2024 Hike 4 | Our Stay at Bin Walkin and Lowell Hike
Переглядів 25921 день тому
April 2024 - Ronda and I stayed at Bin Walkin the night before a hike from Fallasburg Park south to Lowell Greenspace parking on Segwun Rd. Buck and Jenny were so wonderful and hospitable. They made us a delicious meal, and Buck gave me a tour of the place for you all to see. We also were surprised by some severe weather while there, but we made it out alive! :)
North Country Trail | 2024 Hike 3 | Connecting miles in Petoskey

February 2024 - Met up with friends and hiked around Petoskey area for a couple days. Hiked between Bayfront Park and Welsh Road. It was bitterly cold and a challenge to hike on icy paths and difficult on my ankles to hike on hard crunchy snow, but it was a really beautiful section. I connected my miles with where I left off last year in that area and got a bunch of miles south of that point.

February 2024 - Picked up where we left off last time in Prairieville and headed south to connect my miles to the Kellogg Forest parking lot in Augusta. Beautiful day, nice trail, and great company. It was fun seeing the robotic milking barn along the way, but I had some issues with my heels this day, so I was ready for this one to be done.

January 2024 - A slushy hike through the woods from Norris Rd. Trailhead south then a lot of road walking in the rain. Plus, I got my car stuck in the slush at the trailhead, so my husband had to come to the rescue. Half of our hiking party ended at Orangeville Township Hall, then Ronda and I continued on to Prairieville, cutting our day a little short with 12.5 miles instead of the 17 we had p...

December 2023 - This was my final hike of 2023 and it was a BIG one! We hiked from Augusta to Battle Creek. Rained on us all day long. Started off in a nice section of woods north of Fort Custer Cemetery, did lots of walking on roads and sidewalks after that, then ended our day in the woods in Ott Preserve and Kimball Pines on our way to Historic Bridge Park. And we can't forget our favorite st...

Last October 2023, my friend Jen and I took a day trip to Hartwick Pines State Park. What a great place. We checked out the Chapel in the Pines and nearby Bright & Glory Lakes. Then, a week later, my mom, brother, and I took the same trip. We got to see the logging museum (it was closed when Jen and I went) and a LOT more color in just one week's time. Fall is my favorite!

Such a touching video. Sharing the NCT LP completion with Kathy was so special. I loved our refections at the end and how inspiring we have all been for one another. It was so true when Kathy shared that hiking with one another has made it fun. I never thought I would experience anything like this and it has been so much more then I expected. Lydia asked a lot of questions. She said she wants to be there in my last hike when I finish the LP. She said that she would like to try a back pack with me and you Kris and that she would carry snacks and a couple toys to to play with and that she would share my tent with me. Your videos are inspiring this little 8 year old. 😊

Yeah, that's been key to us finishing so many miles. Having at least two of us so we can stage a car at the beginning and end of the hike, and finding a campground, hotel, or airbnb somewhere we can split so we can stay in those areas of the state that are far from home.

Hmmm, the trail must have been re routed since I hiked that about 2 years ago. I don't recall hiking by Gull Lake. That weird turn style you had to climb over west of the bird sanctuary was a hard feat for me as well. But again, I didn't have to deal with the wire strung through it. Are all your southern miles connected now? Congrats for this long day of a hike. I hiked last week by Brohman (Pierce Dr) and came home with 5 ticks. You can bet I sprayed everything good for this week's hike by Nichols Lake.

It must have been a reroute. It's always changing and rerouting. I still have 13 miles left to do from Albion to Marshall and a small 3.5 mile section near Middleville and then my miles all the way up to the border of Barry County and Kent County will be done. Yay! I'm getting there. :) Yikes about the ticks. Ugh! I'm treating all my clothes this week with permethrin for sure! Enjoy your Nichols Lake hike!

What an awesome experience! The first part looked like AT miles. Elevation, roots and rocks. What a beautiful segment. Was your friend's injury on the elbow from a tumble? You two did awesome!

Yeah, going up a hill, she fell and landed on her forearm. Thankful for that pad. Hahaha!

Was any of this the escapment trail? Or just near there? Beautiful! On my to do list. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, at the very beginning of the video, you'll see the signs that say Escarpment Trail. That's what we did. :) It was tough, but I'd go back and do it again for sure. Those views were amazing!

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we hike part of the waterfall area years ago?

Yep, we went to Presque Isle Scenic Area before. I remembered it as soon as we got there.

Love watching your adventures with your friend. Love the witty remarks back and forth to each other. Every UP trip begins with our beautiful bridge. And what's a UP trip without a visit to Superior. I never get the UP towns correctly pronounced until I happen upon it by way of someone else authoritatively pronouncing it. Looked like great great fun.

Next time you're in the area you should check out yondota falls. You do have to drive like 4 miles down a gravel road though. Also Agate falls and Black River Harbor if you haven't been there before, oh yeah and the Presque Isle river mouth.

Just lush with green foliage. Awesome video. Did you change your video settings? I love the high definition. Can't wait to hike this section.

I know. It was so green and beautiful. :) Didn't change any settings. All my videos should be available to view in HD. Sometimes you have to choose that option to view them, though. I think it sets on "Auto" so sometimes it doesn't choose that automatically. :)
