Make Your Truck Smarter Today! Diagnostic Tool Comparison

    I’m 71 and just purchased an F-150 Tremor. Sales person never even mentioned this system! I have a gas engine so assume I have the 2.0KW system. In the morning I will take your video out to the garage and figure all this out. What great content - especially for a guy who has the power company shut down the grid when I change a light bulb. Thank you so much!!

      Jim, there's a big difference between the PPO system with the PowerBoost, and the power generated by Ford's system with a gas engine. I don't have the specifics in front of me, but I do recall reading comments from people with the alternator-based system not being able to drive certain loads that fell within spec. Make sure you test it before needing it in a pinch.

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 День тому

      that all depends on how many miles you do which would benefit from improved efficiency, and whether that would more than compensate for the assuredly big price that you'd have to pay to upgrade at today's prices.

      Here's what the Internet thinks about the air dam: "The front air dam typically deploys at speeds over 40-60 mph (depending on the specific model and configuration). At these speeds, reducing aerodynamic drag becomes critical for fuel efficiency." I do know that most of the guys that have removed/deleted the FAD do so for aesthetic reasons and don't care about fuel mileage.

    I Have a 22 powerboost platinum with a 6.5' bed BUT ALSO with tow mirrors. The real unicorn! LOL I drove a 2017 King Ranch 250 for 5 years and really liked the truck but hated the ride , turning radius and fuel millage. So that lead to what I have now. But loved the 6 1/2' bed and tow mirrors so I made sure to ordered them with the truck. I will say that this is the best vehicle I have ever owned and it's not even close. I'm at 46K so far and I;m 55 y/o. so I've had a lot of rides over the years. You said it best when you sated " it's a Swiss Army Knife" 100% RIGHT!!

    The double honk has to be one of the stupidest things Ford engineers did, and trust me - there's a LOOONG list of stupid when it comes to Ford engineers. Also, a lot of people cannot self-filter and say things that they should really keep to themselves. You do you. I recently DID do something stupid and of course, shared it online and got smacked down, but not as badly as I thought I would. If you share online, you just gotta roll with the blows. My big smackdown was because I bought a new Chevy 1500, then in the interim month, my wife and I decided we wanted to also buy a larger pull-behind than we had originally thought, so I traded it back and upgraded my truck. People were a little merciless about that. But I am happy with how things went (and to be fair, Chevy gave me a pretty nice deal), and looking forward to hitting the road with my wife with our new 2500 and new camper.

    So are there any known issues with this system? When I try to plug in my house, because the power went out, the truck's breaker keeps tripping. When I run the test with nothing plugged in. It detects a ground fault. Anybody know what's going on with that? I forgot to add. I have a lightning which i'm assuming it should work the same.

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 14 днів тому

      I go into quite a lot of depth in this video as to why there are complications powering a house from the main panel. As far as your situation, try simple troubleshooting procedures like plugging a lamp into the back of your bed. If it can't power that without throwing a ground fault, you likely have moisture in your wiring or some other physical issue.

      It's not an alternator; the truck uses a full DC-DC converter to convert the ~300V HV battery down to ~13V. And while doing that, offers a full inverter off of that HV supply to provide two AC phases for the pro power onboard. No belt-driven alternator.

    Lots of good info here, at this time 2024, I think the durability of 2.7 and 3.5 is about the same. The latest 3.5 has resolved cam phaser problems and 10R80 transmission has some upgrades. The 3.5 without the hybrid is still amazingly powerful. If you don’t really offroad, ford offers (or used to) a lowering kit to return vehicle to the 2wd ride height improving cornering and handling.

      Nope, Rob. Priced Amsoil from gallon jugs, and I had the "member" price. Great stuff, but perhaps overkill for my needs. Currently running the Pz UP. cheers

    I lucked out on my truck… STX trim package, but because the original buyer ordered it with the big tow mirrors, it automatically came with the XLT taillights due to the BLIS system in the tow mirrors. 👍🏻

    I have a ford escape. I replaced my oem Agm with lithium. I removed the battery and put in a super capacitor, my lithium batteries are in the back with my amplifiers. The resting voltage of the batteries are 13.2 volts. The only problem is lithium cannot be stored under the hood. But the weight savings is over 100 pounds because lithium is more efficient than agm.

    Generally, does this apply to the Lightning as well? And at 43:45, what phrasing do I use with an electrician to install this set up?

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609

      I think the same thing applies to the Lightning. You would tell your electrician that the truck needs to be connected to a subpanel with separated grounds and neutrals.

      @@fixorrepairdiy4609 I did some of the same modifications on my 2023 Powerboost truck after you. It would be interesting to watch a video with your opinion about the truck itself after some time has passed and about all the modifications you made, whether you are happy with the result or not. Perhaps, taking into account the operating experience, would you have done something differently or not done something at all? I would also like to know how you care for the paintwork, do you do anti-corrosion treatment, do you use any additives, does it make sense to use high-octane gasoline when towing a trailer, how to change the oil in the automatic transmission, transfer case and differentials, which oil manufacturers other than motor oil to prefer, etc. Thank you

      @@ulisg6040 Did you see my two-year review where I also reviewed the added mods? I got some touch-up paint to handle the inevitable dings, although it's impossible to show a proper before/after in a video. Tried and failed, never released it. I didn't do any anti-corrosion treatment as I live in the South and we don't have snow, much less use salt. Big difference from the decades I spent in the midwest rust belt. I did handle some of the rear diff rust from the factory in the first month, however. I did a lot of filming for how to change diff and xfer case fluids, just have not assembled and published that video yet. Thanks for the ideas! cheers

    Question - just curious why you opted for the third-party solution rather than the Ford one. I thought I recall seeing Ford selling a camera that tied into the system already built into the trailering system? LOVE the appearance of the Adrenalize album!

      Funny you should mention that...I too remember "hearing something" about a rear camera that you could integrate into the Pro Backup Assist. But I can't find anything coherent discussing nor offering the product. That tells me that it's probably too expensive or too buggy to be relevant. If you find something concrete, let me know. cheers.

    I learned to back up a trailer when I got my CDL back in the day. With that said, this makes all the sense in the world. I am about to buy a trailer soon because they're just to handy to have. I( make a lot of dump runs) When I do, I will have either this unit or one like it.

    I think the reason Ford did this is to keep people from leaving the tuck running because the engine will not always be running and you may forget the truck is on. If I am camping using pro power I just lock one of the 2 keys in the truck. May be some issues with that but it works.

    Do any of these kind of changes in FORScan get flagged when at the dealer?

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 Місяць тому

      I do not believe that they get "flagged" at the dealer. The dealer can see things like DTC code history, but they can't tell if you've been poking around in the code. The only thing that would cause problems is if you make careless changes which "bricks" the truck, and they are required to un-cluster your changes. This won't be an issue if you slowly and methodically follow the steps to back up your changes.
