Make Your Truck Smarter Today! Diagnostic Tool Comparison

    The oil is not your problem! It's your GDI engine, that causes the fuel dilution? Fuel injection is the better way to go? I just solved my 2013 Terrain 2.4 problems, I bought a 2025 Lexus Hybrid!!

      Jim these engines have both port and direct injection. Not suggesting that the oil is the problem, but rather my short duty cycle around town. One would expect to see higher dilution with this sort of duty cycle since cold engines run richer. cheers

      The only thing it does is run the truck's electronics while the starter motor is pulling amps from the main 12V battery on initial startup. I would check it after a few years but it's got an easy life. Doesn't have the heating/cooling cycles that the main battery has.

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 3 дні тому

      You'd have to calculate this based on the weight of the cab, and the footprint of the tire to determine the pounds/square inch load. I included the compressive strength of construction lumber in the video. I'd say that it would handle it, however you also need to have a very flat, clean surface under the wood otherwise it might crack if there are bending strains into a curved surface.

    So what is the procedure for resetting what needs to be reset after changing the battery. I find lots of chatter about it but nothing explicit about the actual steps. Some say just let it "rest" for 8 hours. Could someone provide a link that's applicable to a 2022 powerboost? Thanks!

      Hi Gregory I probably should have said when I plugged in the work light, "the internal combustion engine is not yet running." Up to this point the AC pro power onboard was entirely running off of the charged high voltage battery. At 25:00 you can hear the engine kick on to help recharge the HV battery.

    Battery voltage alone is not an indicator of the state or health of battery for Lead Acid battery technology. The nominal voltage for a lead acid is 12v which you will see on the battery datasheet from the manufacturer. It appears you just replaced a good battery.

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 6 днів тому

      Thanks for your comment, Randy. In my 40+ years of experience with automotive batteries, resting voltage has always been 2.1V/cell or a nominal resting voltage of 12.6V at full charge. AGM batteries have slightly higher resting voltage at full charge. Here, let me google it for you: "What voltage should an AGM battery sit at? Even for 100% - some charts state that 12.8 V is 100% full, others show 13.0 V as full. This difference of opinion happens because, although a fully charged AGM battery will be close to 13.0 V, the voltage drops very quickly to 12.8V. So 12.8 V can be considered to be “fully charged”." Since I changed out my "good battery" with the new one, I have not received any further warning messages from the truck's monitoring system. So per my video, the battery voltage falling below 12.0V overnight is an early warning that it's not holding charge very well. JMHO sir.

    Question, is there away to turn off the main display on the dash or does will it always be on. I know how to turn off the raido screen but not the dash screen. I go caming with my truck and have tried all kinds of stuff. Also would you leave the hood open if you use the power for a couple days non stop? Keep some of the heat down? I love having 7.2kw everywhere i go.

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 6 днів тому

      I do not know how to dim or darken the main display during PPO operation. I would also not worry about leaving the hood open because the engine does not run that much, unless you are pulling straight 7.2kw constantly. Stays pretty cool during low-draw operation.

  • @kingstonsean
    @kingstonsean 7 днів тому

    Looks like you tested the new battery while disconnected from the vehicle. Did you test both the main battery and the aux battery at rest and while disconnected from the vehicle? As you know, the Powerboost has two 12v batteries connected in parallel, acting as one battery. So, a single volt meter or battery monitor connected to one of the batteries is always reading both batteries. If the aux battery is bad and you install a new main battery, the old aux battery will simply degrade your new main battery and you'll be back to where you started. (I'll be changing BOTH batteries later today. I'll be installing an 800 CCA main battery with 160 minutes reserve capacity and a 14 Amp Hour aux battery. The OEM aux battery is only 7.5 Amp Hours. I'll come back and post my results.)

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 7 днів тому

      True, but the aux battery's only use is to keep the electronics powered while cranking. I could take the time to test it separately (off the buss) but being that I've had no issues show up during cranking, or since I replaced the primary 12V battery, I'll give it a pass for now. cheers

    It’s funny how you say you can get stranded hello it’s a hybrid truck when it’s starts it’s in hybrid mode so your hybrid should be charge Unless your truck is having problems with your hybrid batteries then yes be worried about getting stranded Now about having more cranking amps it’s always good but that’s all across the board with any vehicle Well have a great day and make sure your hybrid battery is in good working order to avoid being stranded as stated

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 8 днів тому

      Enrique- your hybrid battery in the PowerBoost will only take you a very short distance before it's discharged. If you can't start the 3.5L gas motor, you're not going very far. In fact, the truck's software will figure that out and put you in "limp" mode. So you must have a decent 12V battery to start the ICE even though it's a hybrid. Cheers

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 8 днів тому

      I would not worry about the hybrid battery life at all. First, Ford does a good job of managing the charge so it's never too high nor too low. This reduces any "wear" or heat cycles. Second, it's a small battery and they are inexpensive. Not like a full hybrid battery nightmare that you've likely heard of where the cost to replace is worth more than the car itself. They're maybe $500 and are warranted for ten years, IIRC. I would check the oil change history on your potential truck, that's 20k/year (which is fine) but how often did they change it?

    Samsung fridge doesn't like regular generator because it has digital board to protect from dirty power but it would power on if you have an inverter generator that produces clean power. Maybe give it a try with a 'dumb' fridge or freezer.

    • @fixorrepairdiy4609
      @fixorrepairdiy4609 11 днів тому

      This is not correct; the Pro Power Onboard does not generate "dirty" power, it is a full sine wave. The timer in the fridge will delay the compressor from being turned on for a delay period once power is lost; I just didn't have the time to wait 15 minutes for the compressor to kick on again when I cut this video. This gave some people the impression that the fridge "would not work" with the PPO. After powering the fridge for the past week due to power outage due to hurricane Helene, I can unequivocally state that the Samsung fridge works just fine with the ProPower Onboard. cheers

    We're currently moving from Missouri to New Mexico and we are staying in Oklahoma as we speak I am getting 23.4 MPG on a 2022 used power boost we purchased last week. First, fill up I got 612 miles of range right after we purchased it. 2ne full up for this trip was 650 and now we're at 669 on our third fuel up. Been very impressed so far.

    GREAT Video, I'm less than 2 months into my 2022 Powerboost and never owned a truck but have owned Hybrids the past 14 years. Here's a summary from the transcript for folks to digest: 1. Understand Your Powertrain: Your PowerBoost hybrid consists of a 3.5L EcoBoost engine paired with a 47-horsepower electric motor. These work together to optimize performance and fuel efficiency. The electric motor provides inexpensive energy, while the gas engine uses more costly energy. The key is to use the electric motor as much as possible, especially in city driving or when coasting. 2. Hypermiling Techniques: Hypermiling is driving with techniques that maximize fuel efficiency. Here’s how to apply it in your PowerBoost: Free Energy: Utilize gravity when going downhill by coasting in EV mode to save fuel. Inexpensive Energy: Try to drive in electric-only mode whenever possible. The battery is recharged through regenerative braking, so take advantage of it by driving smoothly and braking gently. Expensive Energy: Limit the use of the gasoline engine, especially during acceleration or uphill driving, as it consumes the most fuel. 3. Static Hypermiling Factors: These are factors you can control before driving: Weight: Keep your truck as light as possible. Avoid carrying unnecessary items in the bed. Tire Pressure: Keep tires properly inflated to reduce rolling resistance. Driving Mode: Experiment with Eco Mode versus Normal Mode to see which works better for your driving style and conditions. 4. Dynamic Hypermiling Factors: These are techniques you use while driving: Momentum Conservation: When you've accelerated (using "expensive" fuel), try to keep your truck moving by coasting or using the electric motor, avoiding unnecessary stops and starts. Avoid Boost: Keep an eye on the boost gauge. If you're in boost mode (when the turbochargers are active), you’re using more fuel. Stay out of boost mode when possible. Optimal Speed: Aim to drive between 45-55 mph, where your truck can stay in 10th gear and maximize fuel economy. Use Hills Efficiently: Accelerate downhill using the electric motor to build momentum and avoid heavy acceleration when going uphill. Use Cruise Control Wisely: On flat roads, adaptive cruise control can help maintain efficiency, but in hilly areas, it’s better to drive manually to anticipate changes in elevation. 5. Electric Mode (EV Mode): Try to drive on electric power (EV mode) as much as possible. This is ideal for short distances, low-speed roads, or downhill driving. 6. Regenerative Braking: Aim for smooth, gentle stops to maximize regenerative braking. This converts kinetic energy back into battery charge, which can then be used to power the electric motor. Summary: To get the best fuel economy from your 2022 F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid, focus on maintaining momentum, use the electric motor whenever possible, and minimize the use of your gas engine. Adjust your driving style to take advantage of free energy from coasting downhill and regenerative braking. By following these tips, you should be able to improve your truck’s fuel efficiency, especially in city driving.

    My two month old F 150 has 5k on it, and I haven't gone anywhere. LOL How anyone gets by on 14k a year is beyond me. LOL Picking up a 24 King Ranch tomorrow. :)

    Your oil sampling should tell you the amount of fuel dilution in the oil. If Blackstone does not do that, change companies. It's not a comprehensive report.

    How does it work in rain for hurricanes? We would have the truck outside. If we have a cover for truck you think that would be safe ?

      Mine worked great during hurricane Helene! Cover is fine as long as you don't entrap exhaust or air to engine.

    Great video, and very helpful. One hilarious moment, YT decided to break in with a commercial just as you were going to your "high speed battery replacement" portion...and they threw a Harbor Freight spot in, which begins immediately with a Radial Arm Saw cutting through metal with sparks flying everywhere! 😂😂😂Imagine my surprise... One question (showing my age) - were all your profile settings retained (seat positioning, radio presets, etc)? How are those systems maintained once the leads are removed from the terminal? (I used to attach a small trickle-charger to the battery leads before removing them so I didn't have to reset everything)

    Congratulations on your new job at Home Depot! And "eurospec" sucks! What is with people.and their europhilia? Nothing the eurotrash do is done for the right reasons. It sure as hell aint "superior". Most people find amber rear lights to be obnoxious. Especially when sitting behind someone at a light at night. The automakers experimented with that crap in the late 70s and early 80s. Know why they went back to standard red? Because so many people hated it! Hell, even friggin Audi and Benz got away from that shit in the US export cars where they could! I have a 2019 XLT. Im a HUGE advocate of LEDs especially for headlights. Theres simply no comparison against the garbage halogens Ford shamelessly sends them out with! Upgraded damn near every bulb in the truck to LED, EXCEPT the rear signal/brake lights and the amber front turns. I see zero purpose in it regardless of your nifty little time comparo charts. The human reaction time is all that matters in that equation and its slower than BOTH the halogen and LED activation times so its moot. If you just prefer the LED look in back to the halogen, God bless you. If you dig on the obnoxious amber rear signals, I hate you for it but I cant stop ya doin it. But functionally, none of it makes any difference whatsoever.

    Step 6 - My wife's Mini was the first to get turned into rodent salad - they were having babies in the floor void in the trunk... I now do the peppermint spray in about an 8-12 inch barrier around the perimeter of her car on the garage floor, and have not had an issue since, AND it doesn't burn off as fast as if you spray the car directly. They have an incredible sense of smell, so a spray every 6-9 weeks is sufficient. A gallon of the stuff lasts about a year.
