Thanks for your help! The Ford dealer said my battery is fine just like you predicted. It measured 12.3 Volts on my multimeter last night. It measured the same thing this morning, which was good news. My Bluetooth battery monitor should arrive today from Amazon and I will install that so I can see what’s happening over time. My local mechanic is going to source me a more powerful battery and install it but I want to see what the factory battery does with the Bluetooth monitor so I can catch it doing its thing where it falls below 80% and dumbs down the electronics again.
I'm just plugging my powerboost in every sunday while I am home. Its inconvenient and Ford could easily add this to the dash if they wanted to so it doesnt sneak up on you but they chose not to. Truck is supposed to power the house but you need the house to power the truck it turns out. I'm not even sure if getting something like a yellow top would help. I suppose it would a little bit but the issue is still going to be there eventually. I understand why its happening but on a daily driver 6 days of the week you would think it could manage to charge itself.
Hey Jerry I think the root cause might be a whole pile of weak FoMoCo batteries. People that I've been following with this issue have it go away when they replace the battery with a new H7 from Costco/NAPA/Walmart/etc. I'll probably go this route as well instead of fighting the dealer; one day spent wasting time costs me more than a new $250 battery.
I have a request or video idea for you! Fuel economy difference between a normal bed cover and a custom one that goes from top of rear of cab diagonally down to top of rear of truck. At like 77mph. If I can find the video mildly demonstrating this I will reply to this comment with the name of it
How do I get my 2021 to show SOC on the dash? I am adding a second AMG starting battery in the truck bed and connecting it to the main battery with 4G wire. I can’t run anything, even a dash cam, withour the main system going too low. I have already added both items to my AMZ cart. I have an old android phone that can be mounted as a semipermanent monitor.
Well, you can't get SOC on the actual truck screen or monitor. You can do it with the bluetooth battery monitor that I show in this video, or via OBD2 using the OBDLink MX+ and the app for your phone, but that will only monitor your battery when the truck is ON (and therefore CHARGING if you have a PowerBoost). If you are getting voltage drop with just a dash cam, then your primary battery is likely weak. Cheers
Are you able to see your oil temp (and coolant temp) with the obd2 monitor you have? And about how much time do you see between the coolant temperature reaching normal operating temp and the oil temp reaching normal operation, if so? thank you for the video I also have a 22’ powerboost Just ordered the filter wrench and the battery monitor. And I am installing the air oil separator you showed in a previous video as well. I like the way you think! Merry Christmas 👍👍
I don't believe that an oil temp or oil pressure PID exists yet. No idea why. I haven't played with it for some time, I might give it another shot and see if it's there. Coolant temp, definitely. The OBDLink MX+ is by far the best OBD2 monitor for these trucks because of the number of Ford-specific PIDs that are available. cheers
I live in Alaska. Normal SOP is to winterize our vehicles with an oil pan heater, a transmission pan heater, block heater, and a trickle charger on the 12 volt batterry. All are AC powered and plugged in when the temperature drops below 20. (we just went through 2 weeks of minus 40 to 50) How do you think a trickle charger on a hybrids 12 volt battery will impact the system? Will it effect or also charge the hybrid battery?
Hi Norm. Some have gone to great lengths to install an exterior socket on their powerboost so that they can trickle charge the 12V battery overnight. This will NOT impact the HV battery, nor will it attempt to back-charge it. Cheers
Don't recall saying anything about audio systems in this video. But if I were installing some window-shaking aftermarket system with a whole bed full of woofers, I would probably seek the lowest-impedance path to 12V possible; I would go straight to the battery terminals with a relay cutoff for the amp.
Good question. I think it depends on how low your 12V battery gets; if it's too low to even boot up the startup system, then NO. In my case, my 12V battery is somewhat weak, as it drops below 12.0V on cold mornings when the "welcome" lights go off, yet I can see the HV battery and inverter start to charge the 12V system as soon as I hit the "start" button, even without the ICE being on.
Sorry new viewer but whereabouts do you live and what temps are you seeing? I’ve never had that warning pop up. Mines about a year and a half too, 2022.
I'm in upstate SC so our temps don't go too far below freezing point. I've had the 12V "state of charge" warning show up over the winter if I didn't drive the truck for a few days. I suspect I'll see it more often this winter if the resting voltage is near 12.0V. cheers
Nice video, thanks! I charge all my cars every 3 months with a nice 10a smart charger. Seems to really help add some life for my batteries. Interesting datapoint. I detached the negative cable in an attempt to prevent theft when a key was stolen. Didn’t work. Truck still starts without the battery attached!

Nice job on this video.
Just ordered one.

Please explain the other 12v battery and it's function.

what about the 2nd 12v under the seat?

You mentioned sound system "behind the current sensor", are you saying you need to run the amp ground back to the negative terminal?

But if I were installing some window-shaking aftermarket system with a whole bed full of woofers, I would probably seek the lowest-impedance path to 12V possible; I would go straight to the battery terminals with a relay cutoff for the amp.
Will the hybrid battery charge a dead 12v if you turn the truck on without starting it?
Good question. I think it depends on how low your 12V battery gets; if it's too low to even boot up the startup system, then NO. Thanks! Do you recommend getting the battery monitor IN ADDITION to the obd2 monitor?@@fixorrepairdiy4609

@@radioactivemike1 maybe it is because of the 2nd smaller 12 v battery under the rear passenger seat?
Sir I am from SC I am buying a F150 powerboost Also I have some electric vehicles we can collaborate!! Pls reply
Upstate here. Nice to hear from you.
