What had me on edge when I first saw this episode as a kid was the opening shrinking and will was still in there. Quick thinking on Johns part to use that log to keep it open until he pulled Will out.

The robot shrinking had me on the edge of my seat. Will almost got stuck at the very end.

It was my favorite when I was a kid. It was sad when the heart stopped and thrilling when it started again.

Personal observation, I think Irwin should have kept this series going until they hit alpha Centauri or returned to earth. He should have axed time machine and used the money to keep lost in space going.🤓👍👍👍

This is a great episode. Guest star Michael Rene classic actor. I was almost expecting Gort to be standing by from The Day The Earth Stood Still. Dr. Smith is always up to no good as usual. I like how all the monsters released seem to be coming down the ramp multiple times same monsters even the Cyclops in reduced size. It's a classic in itself. Irwin Allen loved to use props and costumes in his shows. But it worked for him . Well done. Top marks.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️

I especially love the cue by John Williams that appears at the beginning of this clip. It originally appears in “The Reluctant Stowaway” when Dr. Smith desperately attempts to revive Major West from suspended animation while encased in a freezing tube. Wonderful clip, showcasing all the marvelous aliens witnessed in earlier episodes, not the least of which is the giant cyclops from “There Were Giants in the Earth”.

I LOVE THIS EPISODE . My favorite B & W one. TRIVIA: Many of the props on the show were LEFTOVERS from Cleopatra (1963). FOX spent a FORTUNE on that movie and the prop rooms were FILLED with Cleopatra stuff ! That's why when Dr. Smith stumbles into an "alien cave" .. the aliens seemed to be influenced by ancient Egypt ! LOL.

My favorite childhood show! It played out so many fears & nightmares !! The music & sets & the ship was better than Star Trek . The show ran in syndication from 1970 to 1973 - very strongly! Most hour long TV shows do NOT do well in syndication. After school ; before dinner shows : Gilligan's Island , Batman, Lost in Space, The Munsters, Superman. Land of the Giants did POORLY in reruns . Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea did very well.

That same ship was used later on in Season 1 on the episode "His Majesty Smith".

This is a great 2 parter on the 1st season. I did catch a brief look at the exterior of the Keepers Spaceship when he was showing it to Will from a distance when I watched this episode. Amazing that these Alien ships look small on the exterior but get inside its huge and I would probably get lost in there.

@thejupiter2574, The Scream that Dr. Smith let out at launch wasn't because of him being weak, and whimpy. It was because of the Anti-Gravity Drive that produced 250 megawatts of power to escape the gravitational pull from Earth as part of The Propulsion System that was only used once for the rest of the show. The glow around the spacecraft also was the result of an electro magnetic field from The Power Fusion Core with each rotation. In simple terms, Dr. Smith experienced a very uncomfortable electrical shock throughout his body. If he wasn't laying on the Launch Couch, which acted as a form of insulation he probably would have been killed. Speaking of killed, If Jonathan Harris didn't change the character of Dr. Smith, that character would have been killed off after just 5 episodes. In an interview I saw on UA-cam YEARS AGO, Jonathan Harris said that he knew that he was going to be in big trouble if he didn't change Dr. Smith character, and he knew that he had to do something quickly from day 1 on the set when Jonathan sat up from the Launch Couch after being in hiding to sabotage the Robot. According to Jonathan, After rising up from the Launch Couch, Irwin Allen shouted out, THAT BEAUTIFUL EVIL FACE!!! Now Dr. Smith was supposed to feel some discomfort at liftoff from the Anti-Gravity Drive. But as you can see in the scene at liftoff, Jonathan Harris took it over the top, and was just the beginning of Jonathan being able to do what he wanted as the show went on. The scream at liftoff was Completely Unscripted. BTW, listen for a kind of electrical static sound of the interior of the lower deck, right after the count of 0, and just before Dr. Smith's scream. It all makes sense, after he was unstrapping himself from the Launch Couch, when The Jupiter 2 achieved Escape Velocity. That's why Dr. Smith was sweating, nearly passing out and hitting the floor. Dr. Smith looked like he had a bit too much to drink. All because of The Anti-Gravity Drive. But after the Unscripted Scream, Jonathan was in the early stages of turning Dr. Smith from an evil Saboture, to The Comedic Villain. About the 4th episode, Irwin Allen began to catch on to what Jonathan was doing with the character of Dr. Smith, and shouted out, DO MORE!! These are True Facts. The roles Jonathan Harris Absolutely Enjoyed was that of Comedic Villainy because there's Long Geverty in that kind of work. He was Absolutely Great At It!!🎥🎬⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐‼️🌌

PULEEEEZE, Copyright Owners! .. we need the CHEEZE - with all its HOLES! - of the ORIGINAL LIS so that the child in all of us, regardless of our age, can come out as PARTICIPANTS! as we fill in the HOLES with our own Child Fantasies - as opposed to being CGI-Strapped onto amusing park rides with the sequels! ... Betcha that being with our inner childs makes us live longer!

This is the only episode where Don and Dr. Smith were ever going to be considerate and nice to each other because they both thought they were going to die then once they're saved Dr. Smith goes back to being nasty. The Robot sure got cut down to small size temporarily. GREAT EPISODE!

Fox backlot-tastic...oft water filled and used in voyage too

I wish John Williams had scored this episode. Had he done so, it would have gained still more traction as possibly the best episode of the series. What I always like about it is that it is one of perhaps only two episodes where an alien life-form and the Robinsons are unable to directly communicate, the other being “The Monster Plants”. That always made it more realistic and special to me.
