Girl you’re giving me whiplash with those angles 😂 I kid I kid. You are a Hoya girlie now 💚💚
Ikr! hehe. I think I was having a little too much fun. I sure am!
This was so on point! I agree with everything you said. Wish I would have seen a video like this when I first got into plants 😂 I'm a huge hoya head and now I make myself wait for weeks/months before I buy a new one that I feel I really want. I've not regretted buying a single one since I started doing that.
IKR. Totally makes your collection more meaningful instead of a bunch of someone else's favorites. Thanks for watching!
The hoya flower releases it's nectar at night, which is why they smell so much more at night
Ooooo! Fun fact! Thank you for sharing! 😆🪴
You have a bad cutting of Rebecca it's happened to me with all kinds of Hoya if I get a bad cutting whether it came to me and it had previously been diseased or pest not sure? When I buy a whole new plant of it I'm good to go. That's one of my easiest Hoya. I got a dud of Svetlana, I paid $80 for it,. It's never done a thing it only had two leaves maybe three and two of them died the last one is yellowing after over a year of trying different mediums starting over the roots. You will get more dots over the years I hate to bring bad news but I've definitely had quite a few here and there.
💯thank you for this comment! That’s so true. Duds are real! I bought the Rebecca as a plant (a small one yes) but it wasn’t a cutting. I agree that I may have a few plants that are weak from the get go. I’m sorry about your Svetlana ☹️. 🫶🏽🪴🫶🏽
Hi Stephanie Watching 💚
👋🏽happy you’re here! 🫶🏽🪴
My sunrise is still a baby, no new growth yet, I adore the red sunstressing though!! I can’t keep a khroniana alive 🤷♀️ nor the Sigillatis, I’m a big leaf Hoya lover, I think I only have 2 and the clandestine yellow is finicky, we’re trying different growing options for her I killed my first 2 compactas, finally got the current trailing!!
Would you say it’s a little slower? How long have you had to?
@@luciansteph the yellow clandestine? Had her for over 2 years, only lost 1 leaf, no new growth, has a rootball about the size of a toonie, still
@torquess454 oooo. Great choice! 🤩
I wonder if your 'Larisa' is a dud. I got a cutting, rooted it myself and its growing quite a bit. Gave me 3 or 4 new big leaves in 3 months. They're surprisingly thirsty but they usually grow more than yours seems to have. Love your collection! It's interesting to see how different our shared species plants are and to see all the hoya you show that are now going onto my wishlist!
I think so too. BUT I didn't know that it was thirsty. I think I'll put it in a self watering pot during my next repotting and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for sharing those tips with me. Glad your plant is growing well for you. Keep up the great work! :-)
@luciansteph sure thing! I find they're not as thirsty as something like an undulata, but thirstier than you'd expect them to be. Best of luck!
@ I appreciate it! 🪴🫶🏽
I have my grandmother's Hoya Carnosa; its leaves are so dark green that they look black! I keep it in a bright room without direct sunlight hitting it. I love all your Hoya's.
I bet it's stunning! 😍I would love mine to do that too. Thank you! :-)
Oh wow. You’re calling me out on all the things!!!😮😮as a new plant collector, I’m getting overwhelmed and see now that I am crossing the line into hoarder territory. Thank you for this! ❤❤
I know that feeling! 😂 I’ve been there. Quickly changes from a joy to a chore if you have too many. Thanks for watching. :-)
Yes! I did all that you mentioned and have already corrected myself....I researched plants that I see the first time in person while I'm in the store because now we can Google on our phones....I only buy medium size plants as I used to buy baby plants that are not established yet and easy to kill bec it was very cheap...I also refuse to go on plant hypes like Philo Princess as the pink variegation is not stable enough, also when ppl go on ggaga on splashes and variegated plants, first of all they need more light exposure to keep their splashes and lighter colors, and like me I don't want plants that need special care like greenhouses or cabinets with grow lights and fan for air circulation and certain humidity. In other words I don't care for high maintenance or DIVA plants! And you're right about propagations, it increase the real estate of your space but on the other hand we learn something when we try to save our plants from dying...but at the same time I don't have the patience anymore waiting for results of our experimentations so yeah just stop stop stop...and sometimes when a plant dies it's okay to let go because we can buy another different kind😂 Thank you for reminding us how crazy we can be with our passion with plants...it should continue to keep us happy and if not...give them away, don't save it anymore, but if you really really love it, buy another one and a third one but that's it for me, third strike you're out!😂😂😂
@nmchai9333 yup!!! 100% I totally had the no diva plants rule too. This year I wanted to step out of the box and try a few select “DIVA” plants that I thought were absolutely beautiful. So far so good. No drama. Except with some of my Hoya which weren’t supposed to be DIVAS. 😅
Your number 1 hoya the Heuschkeliana has been in my wishlist from the first time I saw it with another UA-camr Kevin....I don't drive and I saw this Hoya only in London Ontario plant nursery, but I don't drive...so I wish I can reach that nursery to get that Hoya or if in the future our plants places here in Toronto and the GTA will finally have them....I will buy triple right away so I don't have to wait too long to grow it😂 I'm also patiently waiting for a Gunung Gading or Caudata Sumatra which are both similar....and a Kaimuki or Archboldiana in red flower...I'm a gardener at heart, recently I bought 3 crested moon cactuses as insurance if they die one by one😂, also found a stenocactus that's grafted as moon cactus....I'm sooooo happy to just have found it finally...but actually, i have someone who spies for me. I give her a list of my wishlist plants with photos and she goes all over plant places and reports to me whenever she found them😂😂😂then I drag my husband after work to get to the place soon before other ppl get them.
You're a real plant detective! 🕵️♀️ Sounds like it's time to go on a roadtrip to london lol. The seem to be regularly restocking them though. Yes, this is one of the times I would suggest duplicates because it can be tricky in the beginning. Happy shopping!
I KNEW Heush would be number 1! 🫶🏾 Thanks for sharing your lovely collection
Hehe!!! You already know! Thanks for watching! What's your favorite Hoya?
@ the variegated heushkliana! It’s just such an adorable plant!
@ adorable is the word. 😆

Stephanie! I love this video - definitely helped me to think and act more carefully.
I'm glad it did. Thanks for watching! Happy growing! 😊🪴
I have two Hoyas that is doing Nothing no new nothing but it’s still alive 😊 17:46
Two of this? Mine pauses when there’s root issues. Hope it resumes soon. 🪴

Excellent pick! I LOVE that one! 😍😍
I am going to start my Hoya collection soon ,my first name is Viola middle name Patricia & I saw a Hoya Noelle which is what I named my Gdaughter ,now at least U said the Patricia U 🫶🏽 so maybe I’ll have a good experience
Awww!!!! 🥰 🤭 you’ll never forget your plant names 😂
What Hoya recommendations do you have for me? And which ones would you get? 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
My Sarawak is my fav, slow but huge leaves! My Pubicalyx is growing like a weed, sold my crimson princess and Australia Lisa, they were getting too big for my space! My crinkle 8 and compacta are some of my top favs I need a Bella!!
@torquess454 I can only dream of my princess and Lisa getting too big 🤩🤩 the Sarawak is a stunner!!! 10/10
I love that Hoya Viola. It’s beautiful. It’s lead shape for me 😍
Thank you. While editing I see I was too hard on it. It’s gorgeous!
@ it really is. I love the leaves. I’m not a huge fan of Hoya but I have seen a few that I may want to add to Kim plant collection. Hoya linearis is one, Hindu rope (I love trailing plants) but now that you introduced me to the Viola I’m in love
Hello, can you do a video on how to examine plants and what to look for bugs before you purchase a new plant.
Great suggestion! Thank you! I'll look into it!
Repotting vids are my fav, it’s so satisfying, yes I make a huge mess too, especially now it’s winter and I’m repotting inside! Lol The direction of growth in a rectangular pot definitely matters, you wanna point the active growth into the middle so it has room to crawl, looks like you put the growth points at the far edge, it likely won’t grow backwards into the middle of the pot, dunno if that makes sense, like you’d pot up a gloriosum in a rectangular pot, so it has room to crawl along the substrate, why does it look like you’re potting it the wrong direction? Just put my white wizard on a moss pole, took a month for roots to fill the pole! I wash every pot between plants, but don’t always clean my cutters… 😂 Fold that moss pole along the lines at the sides first! Lol then it’ll stay open! It’s got a plastic film on it you can pull off too if you prefer the pole clearer. Also you wanna start a small plant on a pole, you’ll have to extend it right away if the full vine is put on it
I pointed the active growth to the middle but it doesn’t look that way because the plant was growing in circles in the pot 😅 so that’s what you can see on the outsides. You’re right it doesn’t take a while for the roots to grow. Happy growing!!! 🫶🏽🪴
Hello Steph, very grateful for your valuable advice. I am making several of those mistakes, my current addiction is hoyas🙈, I have decided not to buy more due to lack of space because the little ones will grow and I think I will face serious problems today. Greetings from Peru 🌿🇵🇪
👋🏽 SAME! I just did a Hoya collection video and wondered what am I going to do when these 48 Hoya mature. I’m going to cap myself too. We live and we learn. Quality not quantity. 💡 🪴 greetings from Canada 🫶🏽
Check out Rona too, if you have one nearby. I found a super full 6.5" pot of Hoya Curtisii last week in Kingston!!!
Wow nice! My Rona has always been hit or miss. I’ll keep trying. Thanks 😆
@@luciansteph yes Rona is definitely a miss for Hoya here until this time! I'll cross my fingers for you!
This is good and needed advise. Thank you.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching 😊🪴
Guilty on all charges! Thanks❤ Great advice for someone pet shopping.
Step by step. You’re welcome. Thanks for watching. 😊🪴
I have made all these mistakes. My collection is up over 200 plants now and I find that some do not bring me joy. I have plants outside in "rehab" for the summer and now that its cold I had to make some tough decisions and just let some go. Things that climb and need larger moss poles just get to be a pain. But the good news is I have more room for more Hoyas!
There’s always room for what you love 😅 just gotta say goodbye to ones you don’t love. 😂
All good advice! Pretty much sums up to don’t hoard plants. I also agree on being careful about big plants. I see many people even on UA-cam showing a pot of mid size monsteras with 3-4 stems. After my experience with my deliciosa and Thai constellation, I reckon 1 stem is all you need. They get large and in charge. Like LARGE. Sooner or later the plants will be fighting each other. 1 stem with good support is all you need.
Exactly! It’s better to have one beautiful plant than a overcrowded one. 😊🪴
I will have to save and rewatch daily lol. Come on don’t you see new plants in videos and suddenly HAVE to have them? I learned to stay off Palm Street and some other sites. The shipping costs can be more than the plant itself.
hehe. I won't stop you. Knowing what I like and not wanting to have duplicates or plants that look too similar has helped with that feeling alot. Still not easy though hehe.
Plant Diary Truth. I enjoy my Junegle. Not stress. Oh I have killed some plants but I have my favorites. I purchased Aglaonema Pictum Tri Color 4 times. 4th time she is growing. 👍🏾Video. I enjoy 30 plants.Hey 👋🏾 Friend. I’m June in my Junegle. Virginia. 🪴Happy Planting🌿
That's fantastic! It sounds like you've found your rhythm with your plant collection! 😊 Happy growing!
Duplicates! 😅
😅🙋🏽♀️
@luciansteph 😄😁
Lol, I walk away from the store and wait for the impulse to pass. Like you said, if I really want it after a few days, 😊 then I'll go back for it.
FOMO it might be gone by then!😮😫
@lindacambria5413 if it's gone I chalk it up to it wasn't meant to be mine. 🤭
It works! Sometimes I even forget what I was going to buy, lol. 😅
@luciansteph that's true!
My downfall Getting a plant just because someone else has it. I need to focus on the plants that I have.
Yes! And you see their joy and you want it too. I know what you mean. 😅🪴
#5 is my issue😢😅😂
The struggle is real 😅😂🪴
Fellow Canadian here. Love your channel. Where do you buy your hoyas? I find them hard to get in such great varieties.
👋🏽👋🏽thank you! I find them from Facebook Marketplace. 😆🪴many of mine are from @gennasplants and @cwttttia on Instagram
What a great video!!! Guilty as charged 😅! I must confess that with some specimens I ended my relationship by binning them... I remember a few that I was certainly NOT in love with, and that gave me constant problems - out they went! Philodendron pink princess? Amen! Bought it following a hype, just because I found it dirt cheap at some supermarket... "Why?!" I keep asking myself: I don't like its shape, I hate pink... I just recognized the name and the price was low (yay me!). And that brings me to a mistake I personally make: I live in Poland where you can find pot plants in almost every market, and it's not uncommon to find an Alocasia Frydek Variegata for $ 5 (just a two-leaf plant, but still!). What I do [far too often!!!] is I pity the plant because of the condition it's in or because I know the staff will not water it properly - dah, that's SUPERMARKET staff! - so I feel the need to take it home to save it from its fate. Unfortunately, more frequently than not I AM the one to neglect it 😟 And finally, one can sometimes not see the trees for the forest, to paraphrase the proverb: I feel zero joy when I look at my cramped plants, and I'd rather have few displayed to give them a chance to shine and be a real focal point in my rooms; why do I keep dragging new ones into my house 🙈??? All the best, plant parents 🪴 Beata
Wow *slow claps* These are facts. Such great points. Especially being deliberate about have well displayed plants. Quality over quantity 💯
Smart shopping technique. I do the same for the most part 😅
Thank you! That’s great! Keep it up! 😊🪴
You’re right, we as plant lovers do a lot of those things because we want more and more, but when it is enough? I don’t know if you have done this before I haven’t noticed it in your other videos, talking to 2 cameras but if not, keep doing it, it’s very interesting and adds dynamism to your videos 🎉
Exactly! Balance is so important or else it all becomes a burden. I’ve used two cameras before but it’s my first time using it in this way. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you. 😊🪴
"Don't impulse buy" called out 🙄🤦♀️
We’ve all been there! 😅😅
Yes Stephanie you are so right and I have learned that lesson by ordering plants and babies that should have stayed 16:36 at a month or two longer before mailing and they die I won’t ordering too much any more.
Yup. Lesson learned 😅
Lol, i can not stop propagating hoya.
I’m late. I JUST started propagating Hoya (I don’t mean restarts) last week. I’ve started selling and gifting cuttings.
The getting rid of a plant thing...yea, just starting on that train over here 👉 lol
Not easy 😓
I have so many online shopping carts full of plants and tabs open by them for the plants in the carts lol I use this method to help myself get that dopamine rush from shopping and research. I leave the plants that pass research in for another week. If I’m still wanting them, I get them. I look for plants that grow slowly, since I have limited space, and will enjoy the mature and juvenile forms of. With X Mas coming up, I have a lot of propagations going, but that’s ok! I also get the plants on the sale rack at Lowe’s and force myself to learn to rehab them to learn how to best take care of them. If I’m getting plants, I’ll go for cuttings or bare root so I can best learn to care for them as well. Propagating has taught me the last line of defense to save a plant. It also showed me how to experiment with growing conditions and helps make some $ back for new plants or get new plants via trade. Reddit’s takeaplantleaveaplant is amazing for trades!
1: yes! I’ve gotten pretty good at letting go this year, but still have some left I could definitely part with! I definitely threw some out recently that I didn’t feel right about selling, saveable, but too rough 2: I don’t do duplicates unless I plan on putting them together! Yes! Check! I’ve got so many I don’t need doubles! 3: I stopped over propagating too! Yay! I’ve only got 4 types right now, I’m winning so far!! I quickly realized I didn’t know enough planty people to give them too 🤷♀️ unless I propagate something expensive or I wanna fill out a plant I have. 🤷♀️ 4: definitely!! I did this at the beginning too, ran out of space for the small plants and got overwhelmed, now it’s 1-2 at a time! And more medium sized ones if possible too, more robust! 5: guilty!!! Lost a few that way 6: oops… but I also check matured pics and care … mostly 7: I like buying small and watching them mature, way more satisfying than buying big for me, I’ve bought 3, hubby bought a white bird of paradise, I bought a big curly 3 plants in the pot dracaena, and a palm, otherwise it’s fun to get them to mature in my care! Learned that from the pink princess too 😂
You’re doing great! I’ve got 2 #8s lol sorry
Hi 😍 Can you please write the name of the plant you mention at 10:00 ? I have also been staring at it everytime I have seen it in your videos 😅😍
😂 sure! It’s a Xanthosoma Lendenii
Have you seen the black anthuriums? They are absolutely gorgeous.
Don’t get me started with those. I’m a sucker for dark leaves! They’re so expensive though! 😅
mist the plant while it’s putting out new leaves if you can’t provide a humidifier
Great idea. I also sometimes put a wet paper towel on it.
Thank you Stef they had the best plants I still Love that Thai Constellation it so beautiful ❤😊
Thanks for watching! 🫶🏽
What state?
Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦
Yes I’ve used bobby pins to pin vines lol I’ve got so many! I need those deep drip trays for my hanging plants too!! I can’t use many cover pots because of the weight! They’d be so much easier to put in the macrame if already structured with the deep tray, plus the added coverage for over watering!! I will only use my Mollys succulent mix for succulent type plants, like the strings of things, ever try it? I treat every plant I bring home not really because I’m worried what I’ll bring home, but to prevent MY pests from getting the new ones I put my succulents kinda out of reach or hidden behind other plants on the windowsill so I don’t over water them lol
Yes the drip tray is handy. I saw them at Home Depot for literally doubt the price of what I got them for 😓 so shop around. Yeah I use Mollys for more delicate plants or ones I haven’t figured into yet. What do you use for pest treatment?
