Oh my gosh! Your Hoya’s are gorgeous! I pot up all my plants in my soilless mix and they love it. My Hoya’s are loving it too. You’ll be fine.
Thank you for the reassurance! 😊 Happy growing! 🪴🪴
Love to see these beautiful big waxy leaves!
I had a very lush Hoya Princess from Home Depot, I loved that thing, but after several months of watering only every 3 weeks, I noticed the soil was still staying too wet for too long. (I think it was staying wet for longer in the summer!) So I got confident in my repotting skills and I tried repotting, removing all the wet soil and adding new soil. During repotting, all the vines got very squishy, so I couldn't hold them together... The vines and roots moved around a lot more than I intended. It all went downhill, I tried taking cuttings to propagate and it didn't work out. It was a heartbreak 😣😭 I wasn't sure of what went wrong, since it was growing well before. Now i am without hoyas :(
Cooki.Monsta I'm so sorry to hear about that. I get really sad when I lose a plant. The good news is that Hoya are circulating more and you might find a gorgeous Princess at a great price at your local Home Depot.
You are TOTALLY not alone. The Hoya C Princess can be a DIVA. The same thing happened to me in a previous repotting video. I managed to save only about 1/4 of the plant (if so much). The rest literally just fell apart in my hands. I had suspected overwatering but took too long to get to it. It's not a very resilient Hoya. I bought another one recently and potted it together with the remaining the "survivors". Even then, I lost about 20% of the new plant. Happily it was a decent size so the overall plant looks really good.
Don't give up! I'm rooting for you!!!
@@luciansteph oh my gosh, I thought it was only me, but losing a princess (it's a good name for the diva) is so sad! You can have it for many months, but one accident and the plant can't manage :( Glad you were able to make it to your liking! 💟 I'll have to try again, I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you!
1. Plant hot take: people are too careful with roots. In gardening I often snip the ends of roots when I pot up plants to stimulate new root growth. I also do it for indoor plants.
2. My alocasias have easily taken to semi-hydro. I bought a sacrificial alocasia in the 50% off section to experiment with at first, it transitioned immediately without any problems.
3. It is hard to see what the moldy areas you look like. Spider mite damage can give can look a little powdery. It could be powdery mildew. Give it a good exam before putting it back on the shelf.
I especially agree with #1. Plants are more resilient that we think. The only reason I didn’t touch the roots is because disturbing Hoya roots significantly slows down the rate of growth which I don’t want for this plant.
My Alocasia love semi hydro. I do exactly what you say and immediately repot and place them into semi hydro when I get them.
I spray my plants whenever I take them out of their spot esp for a YT video. Whether I can see anything or not, they get a spray. hehe.
Thanks for watching and sharing your tips.
The title was misleading… this was a lovely UP-pot of your beautiful Hoya!! Glad I clicked and watched because I really enjoyed this video!!🤩😍
I appreciate you taking the time to watch. You're right, it is an up pot. I also showed how I save money and make things work when I don't have all the things that I need such as brand new pots for every plant, new trellises etc. Thanks for the feedback. Happy growing! :-)
Hi Steph..great video as always. Little bit of info....powdery mildew appears on plant leaves when the humidity is high and there is not good air circulation around and in between plants. It appears on outdoor garden plants in the same way like hydrangeas and roses. You might try purchasing small fans that charge using usb cables and adding them to the shelves around your plants..some plants are more susceptible than others. Little tip that works for me. Love your plant room.🎉
I appreciate it! Thank you. It’s so weird because the fan is usually on for at least 8 hours and the windows are opened at other times. But it could’ve happened when we were away. Actually I think that’s when I first noticed it, after we returned from vacation. This was helpful! Thank you for sharing! 🤗
I just found your channel and I’m wondering where you’ve been all my life! I have 5 Hoya being delivered today, so this is perfect timing. Hooray! ❤
Hehe thank you for visiting! 🤗
Ooo which Hoya did you order? 👀🪴
Such a pretty obovata ‘splashy’!
Thank you. 😊
Omg your krohniana super silver is stunning! Gives me the hope that mine will look like that one day too. It has not stopped growing for the past two months so its on its way! Thanks for the video, repotting is something i dread as well. And am guilty of putting it off & putting it off but then just like you, once i do it im like "ah not so bad" until nxt time 😂
Thank you! 😊
Yay! Glad to hear your KSS is growing well for you. Just stay on top of the care since it’s not very forgiving. 😅
I appreciate your support 🫶🏽yes repotting is super intimidating. That’s why I went crazy and did alot of plants at once. The rest is coming your way this month on Patreon 😉🪴
Alocasia love pon. That's all I use for all my plants. 😊😊
1000% ✅
I don’t think your soil has anything to do with anything on that beautiful silvery Hoya. Remember, Hoya’s soak up a lot of water in those wax leaves. The soil actually is what is helping you not to have to have to water so much. I use Peat Moss and Tree Fern and they love it. Good luck!
You could be right. I think I just feel more confident growing them in a soilless mix with a reservoir. Soil keeps it a bit too moist especially for this fussy ish Hoya. I appreciate the kind feedback 🤗🪴 thanks for watching 🫶🏽🫶🏽
You can add a fresh cutting to the soil? That would be so much easier to fill out plants! My Hoyas get such weird spotting usually on the back of the leaves, no idea, they get treated with pesticides, antifungal and antibacterial, but still
I do it only got very resilient plants. Oh that’s weird. Hmm, trying to think of what it could be. Have you looked with a microscope just to be sure?
Great video! How did you navigate the wrinkling leaves in the kroniana?
Thank you🤩
Honestly, I just let it be. It wasn’t losing leaves so I didn’t go at it. I also tried to stay consistent with watering and sprayed it regularly with orchid spray.
Your plants are beautiful!! What gauge wire are you using for trellis?
Thank you. Honestly, it’s just a plain wire I found at the dollar store. I’ll post a picture on my community tab and my instagram the next time I see it. @luciansteph
Could the moldy stuff on the Krohniana possibly be powdery mildew?
It could be, I think the roots were way too damp. Hopefully the new airy medium will take care of it. I’ll keep you posted
Hi really look forward to your videos, just worried about all that algae you never washed of or even use 3% hydro peroxide I really hope they will be OK.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! 😊🪴😊
I actually added 3% hydrogen peroxide in their reservoirs off camera when I filled them up. Before the repot though, I’ve never had trouble with algae on my plants roots. No rotting or anything. I would also wash off the roots and pots once a month. I think the real issue is not refreshing the water which replenishes the oxygen. Stale, low/non oxygenated water can contribute to root trouble I’ve noticed.
Does the soil less mix get gnats? New to the plant world and battling gnats. I noticed my bag of Miracle grow orchard bark had gnats. Trying to find something to avoid gnats
Gnats were intense this year. I have noticed that Pon and Lecca reduce gnats the most. I honestly do still see gnats in my soilless mix but not as much as my big pots with soil. It depends on how much of the water retentive ingredient is in your mix. I have a recipe on my Patreon.
Bottom watering and self watering pots helps a lot too.
If you microwave your bark, it will kill gnats and bugs. I don't use Miracle Grow anything because it's always full of bugs. 😊
@beverlysullivan1427 😅😅what an idea! I actually put my closed container with my home made mix out in the sun during the summer. And the seemed to do the trick too. But microwave? 😆
what section do you find the wire at the dollar store??
🤔 I feel like it’s in the outdoor section. I will look and post a picture on my community tab. 😉
