Ridiculous Trout Bite! How I Use A Jerk Bait
South Louisiana Inshore Fishing
Fishing a Jerk Bait (Twitch Bait) for Speckled Trout can be some of the funnest fishing you have ever done, especially when the big speckled trout come out in huge numbers. I couldn't sleep so I ended up at the boat launch early and decided to go ahead and hang out at my starting spot until daylight. Of course I couldn't just sit there, so I started fishing and the big trout were already biting. No moon, no lights, just a jerk bait in the pitch black. The craziness continued through the morning. Crash course on how I use this type of lure at around the 15 min mark.

I fish artificial lures and mostly in the marshes and lakes on the east side of the Mississippi River in South Louisiana for Speckled Trout, Redfish, and Largemouth Bass. These videos are rough edited so I can show them within a few days of the trip and because I don't know how to edit videos. If you fish in the same areas I do, this might give you some idea of current conditions and fish activity. If you have a similar channel, leave me a comment so I can check it out.

My wife and I were in Bayou Bienvenue fishing by the wall, and I swear I saw you drive by my wife and I at the wall as you were going through the gate yesterday Jan. 3rd. I was tempted to follow and try to catch up but by the time I pulled everything in and started the motor up you would have been gone. I thought about yelling out loud..JAR!!!! If you want to fish Lake P, you can launch at The Pointe Marina and it puts you right by Hwy 11 and The Tressles. Just go when wind is low and tide is moving. 3/8 oz jig head and your favorite swimtail.

@@derricke3412 it’s only a 12V. Works fine most of the time, but can’t keep up in a swift tide. A 24V would be better.

Great Video Jar and so happy you and your dad are together and doing well. I have trouble baitcasting jigs or even say 1/4 oz. jerk baits with a 7 ft. medium rod designed for our marsh fishing. Trying to Cast with accuracy and avoiding backlash is a challenge with my current set up. The heavier baits of course are easier. I see you making aggressive casts with your 7 ft. medium heavy with jigs or the 6 ft. 7 inch lite action with the jerk baits and no problems. I presume it would be necessary to go with light action for any of the light baits say 1/4, 5/16, etc. Your thoughts?
@@dddppp8131 thanks! I use the med light pretty much strictly for the jerk baits, and the only time I really use Med Hvy is for 3/8 oz or heavier jig. That is mostly because it helps me detect bites easier when jigging deeper water. Med for just about everything else. It’s just an opinion thing and what works for me so I’m not saying my way is better. As for casting, adjusting the tension knob correctly is critical. I tweak on it every trip depending on wind. Start with it tighter and loosen it as you get more comfortable. Also learn to use your thumb to skim the spool as needed. The more casts you make, the easier it will get. Hope that helps.

I assume for paddle tail jigs and soft plastics you are using a liter tied braided and fluorocarbon from there to artificial bait…. How long is the fluorocarbon liter?
When throwing jerk and twitch bates are using 20lb braided tied directly to lurer?
@@seeunow44 20lb braided main line, but I use a 3-5ft fluorocarbon leader that is usually 15lb. I step it up to 20lb leader if I’m targeting redfish.

@@Marsh-Mechanic I only painted the back corner where it got hit but I did change out those pedestals. The guy that did the welding on my boat told me Tracker used carbon steel for the rivets and pedestals and they are gonna rust no matter what. My floor rivets are all rusted like yours.
