  • The plan was to hunt for monster Speckled Trout in The MRGO channel, but the recent wildfires in the marsh made it too difficult to see early so I found a flock of birds and racked up on the keepers before finally making it out to the big channel. Better late than never because I ended up catching one of if not the biggest trout of the year. Also was shocked to find a pile of Bass mixed in. The water is unusually salty this year so it's a miracle there are any bass at all.

Thanks for treating that trophy trout with respect. In the area I fish 20 inch trout are very rare. Thanks for the video.

Congrats on the monster trout! Amazing those bass are alive in the MRGO. The LAWF study showed they could live at 8 ppt but died at 12 ppt. Thanks for sharing your day.

I took the bass for granted until this year. It will be interesting to see them make the comeback.

You were right man! Taking forever. They ordered new cables but didn’t know they needed some adapter so they ordered the adapter last week. Supposed to get it back today or tomorrow but I’m not holding my breath. I should have bought those parts and came to Covington lol

I hope you're right. If there is a year for it, this feels like it could be the one. Feels like an upswing with the trout here after a few years of decline. We needed it.

Nice haul , you picked the right day , been out all most every day this week, just a few takers on hard plastic , but been using soft plastic, working on my # 700 trout for the season tagged , it’s only gonna get better as the weather gets colder , thanks again for sharing your video

How many responses have you gotten from 700 tagged fish if i am understanding you correctly. i have been thinking of tagging too. Thanks in advance

    • @karlrockvoan755

As of now I have 693 tagged fish 172 redfish , 521trout and 23 recaptures , that average is about 30 tagged fish to 1 recapture , I’ve been primarily tagging bigger fish , but they don’t stay inside long heading out side , recently I gotten a report back saying one of my tagged redfish was captured out by the Chandelier islands it traveled 41 miles in 32 days from where I released it , had a trout do the same thing , same place it went , had a 27 inch redfish I tag ,42 days later it was caught again , distance from caught and released and caught again was 0.0.2 miles , I’ve actually recaptured 4 trout I tagged before in the general area last year , now im starting to tag a few smaller trout & reds just to see how long they stay in one area I tagged a lil red it was recaptured in the same spot 16 days later: Just checked my email , received a report of on one of my trout being recaptured today , 16 inch trout and was released again cool the trout’s journey continues , 12 days on the loose and caught again distance 0.91 miles , I post reports on Louisiana Troutman

Good video. Guessing it was the day we launched at same time from South Shore. I didn’t catch the monsters you caught, but did well with a jerkbait along the rocks. Pulled in 12 specks 15-18” before that damned smoke got so thick I couldn’t stand it. Putted outta there and ran east along MRGO. Boated another 13 with a jig. Called it quits at 9:30 with my second limit in four days. The bite is cranking up baby!

12.5" will be no more soon.
We slammed em' a few weeks ago, 2 man limit.
Last weekend 22 between 2 people still good catch. It was smokey in the morning. Was out early, bite ended early, once they were done that was it. Marsh fished caught one doormat couldn't keep, then called it probably too late...
