The Only Lure The Trout Wanted...

- Don't be too quick to believe the weather man. We caught a few days of warmer weather with a great tide range, but they were a no fly zone because of the storms we have had lately....but woke up early and saw the storms were going to hold off for a bit so I just had to go try my favorite technique for Speckled Trout...the jerkbait. We don't have all year to do this, so you have to strike while the iron was hot. The south wind turned to a north wind on a dime and a massive storm came out of nowhere and ended my trip early. Just as the storm approached, caught a massive Redfish. In case you were wondering if 15lb line was enough for big Trout... Got soaked on the way back to the marina, but at least I got to dance with the Trout for an hour or so. If you are curious about what kind of lures I use for this technique, check out a recent pool test I did of a few.
Lure in this video: Rapala X-rap
Rod: 6'7" Falcon Medium Light
Line: 20lb braid w/ 15lb Fluoro leader

I'm from Alberta but we spent a lot of time down there in the winter thank you for the memories we had a cold snap up here - 40 yuck great channel Jar
That’s dang cold
Good gracious! What a storm cloud shot at the end! Fantastic visual. Careful out there! Ha
Jar's hook-setting with the "pause", tight-lining raising the trout bar... while releasing nice size trout without harm! X-Rap's the charm!
Nothing like that surprise when they smash a suspending lure. You can feel it in your soul lol. Thanks Mark
Woot, keep on videoing, wife and I were unable to make it down south this winter, so your vids are keeping me from going insane. Catch a few for me!
Those were some nice trout. Mrgo kicked up pretty fast with that storm coming.
Very fast
Another quality video by Jar Fishing. One of the best fishermen and one of the best and videoing and editing. This fisherman needs some sponsorship.
I’m far from the best but there is no doubt I love the sport. Thanks for the kind words
@@Jar_Fishing another reason it's fun to watch your videos is because of your humility.
Great instructional video JAR! Thank you for that
thanks Jar for the fishing trip. I look for diving birds, pelicans, even dolphin looking for baitfish.
got to just keep moving.
John
We gotta take whatever clues we can get
I was out on Sabine Lake earlier this week, same thing here, water temp was 45F, and very dens fog , slow day ! Great video, thanks.
Great video..💪💪
Great video! I really liked that we were able to see the retrieval and when they hit. Just subscribed! I fish inshore in Pensacola. Escambia Bay.
My in-laws live in Pensacola and every time we drive over that bridge I’m always wondering what the fishing is like. Thanks for watching.
@@Jar_Fishing The fishing is great! Reds trout stripped bass you name it!
See, should have given me that warning that morning. I could have let the dogs out earlier. Nice video
Lol. Wasn’t planning on going but couldn’t sleep.
Bro that hyped me up when you pulled that red up haha
It was a beast
Glad to see fish are still there. Just got boat back. Going Sunday and Monday to break in and try to put a fish or 2 over the rail
Good luck. Hope you smash em.
At the beginning of this video I said “this will end with him getting wet” lol and it looks like it did. You’re a brave man. I’ll face the rain in the summer, but it’ll be a long ride back wet @60° lol
lol. I got soaked on the boat ride back.
Rain gear
Looks like they were hitting on the pause pretty aggressively, awesome day for sure. The wife and I made it down there and did some good fishing, we caught three trout, a couple reds and a bunch of catfish on shrimp. Check out the video and let me know what i should do next trip this spring.
Nice!
Awesome video Jar, great information as usual! Have you seen or heard of any trout dying because of the severe cold conditions?
I haven’t head that. I think we have had enough warm weather mixed in with the cold to keep the trout doing fine.
What day was this I was over in my area seeing that storm coming in decided to get behind a lil island that protected me from the storm and rain, found them on soft & hard plastic tagging a few , kept a limit for family & friends , you were spot on with the pause strike , thanks for sharing your video
Thursday
Went to hopedale friday was the only one there... 2 bulls on a gulp and all my trout were over 16. My first fish on an x rap turned into 9 beautiful specks
Nice!
About how long do the trout stay up by the wall. Thx
Hi Jar, love all your instructional videos. I get out there once a month and fish live shrimp from Eddie’s. After watching your videos over the past six months I’ve transitioned to lures and have had some good luck catching and releasing. May I ask what length leader you use for the X Rap ? Hate running an fg knot through my guides. Thanks for taking us fishing !
I usually tie on about 5 ft of leader and change it out once it gets down to about 3 ft (or I break off like a dummy). I use a double uni, also called a “uni to uni” knot. I’ve gotten better at tying it over the years. Never been very good at tying the fancier knots. Nothing wrong with live bait. I think what attracted me to lures was the fun of learning different techniques and being able to apply bass fishing styles to Reds and Specs.
Great video as always! WOW can’t believe u headed out w the rain chances! What was water temperature? Hoping it’s come up some since the cold front. I was out Tuesday and water was 47F.
Shell Beach Buoy was reading about 49 water temps. The fish were super cold when I put my hands on them so I was surprised to see them so aggressive. Thanks Rudy.
Jar I’ve heard different knots to jerk bait. What knot do you use to your jerk baits or top water?
Awesome content as usual! Is that X Rap the marsh Minnow color? And is it a suspending bait?
Olive. Yes it suspends. Slight sink
Are you using the xr8 or xr10?
