The Untold Story of Fatal Fury For The SEGA Genesis!!
Why do some boards burn, I wonder.
Yeah same here!! I don’t feel like I had the iron on it too long. Maybe the heat was too high. 🐺🐺🧐🧐
Monopoly for the NES was such a huge part of my childhood. I'd always hold the roll button for an awkwardly long amount of time, thinking it would make my rolls better... glad you were able to save it!
That’s awesome!! If I had this game as a kid I would have probably done the same thing!! I really wasn’t expecting all this damage on the board. The game looked pretty clean on the outside. 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
Thanks for another entertaining video.
Your welcome!! Glad you enjoyed it!! 🐺🐺😁😁
Nice job!! Brasso all day!! Absolutely hate cleaning N64 carts, you need 1 game bit and 1 screw driver just to get in there. Great video!
Thank you!! Yeah it’s kinda frustrating!! Especially with all the shielding and that plastic piece!! 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
Another great video Nick! Hope you and your family are safe and well after Helene 👍
Thank you!! We are all good over here!! Thank you for asking!! 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
@@wolfmanrepairs I'm really happy you're all doing well!
I bought a cartridge that was full of some kind of powder that I’m not sure what it is, it looks like rust, but it isn’t. Do you have any idea what it might be?
It could be oxidation from water damage. Sometimes there is a white residue left behind after the liquid dries up. I would try using some IPA on it and see if it goes away. 🐺🐺😁😁
@@wolfmanrepairs Maybe someone tried to clean it up with water or alcohol? Even the chips on the board have the dust. Anyway, thanks for answering!
I remember repairing a VCR years ago that was full of a suspicious white powder that had melted onto various components inside... After some conversation with the owner and a little anxiety that I'd somehow ended up with the result of some sort of failed smuggling attempt, it turns out that the original fault stemmed from the fact that the unit had been filled with powdered sugar by a particularly frustrating toddler. What I'm really saying is, it could be absolutely anything! 😂😂
@@TheBeezleDude Now I'm really worried, cause I'll think this is some sort of radioactive dust. lol
@@Clodd1 At least it would have enough juice to keep the savegame backup working on the cartridge 🤣🤣
Good Job playing it forward!
Thank you!! 🐺🐺😁😁

Great soldering job.

What a fantastic video. Thanks
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it!! 🐺🐺😁😁
I loved this full series and am looking forward to what you've got coming down the pipeline.
Thank you!! Much more to come!! 🐺🐺😁😁
Congrats on the 1k subs, Great video as always, Some are winners, others aren't so unfortunately. Its hard to get some consoles running, especially if its a faulty IC or some hidden break in the trace or solder joint. My case was with the VA3 Model 1 where It turns out it had "2" Faulty chips. not only the Zilog Data line 4 was shorted on the Yamaha 2612, But the IO Chip also had a short on that same line. Not sure how that could happen 🤔 I had help from good people from Console mods on Discord helping me pinpoint the issue, told me to use 240pSuite and its Z80 test had came back with 2 write errors, I was told it was ZD4. There was no trace break of any kind, so it was an IC issue. I had somewhat "Not Badly" butchured the board swapping out ICs with the primitive tools I unfortunately have, 😅But its finally working again!
Thank you!! That’s crazy the VA3 had two chips that were faulty!! Im not sure how that happens either!! I’m going to have to join some discord forums too!! You said the name was Console mods? I will have to check them out!! I’m glad to hear you were able to get It working!! 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁

Hello Wolfie! How about trying using a dash of WD40 & aluminum foil on the cartridge slot metal shielding to get that shine back?
I didn’t know you can do that!! I will have to give it a try for sure!! Thanks!! 🐺🐺😁😁
I haven't tried it myself, just a theory I came up after watching car / drum hardware restoration videos. Some people also use distilled water. Baking soda might work with it. But try wd40 first.
@@wolfmanrepairs I tried it myself today and it made no difference, sadly. Sorry about that
Thank you for the update!! I’ve used SOS pads on chrome bumpers before and that brings the shine back. I might give that a shot!! 🐺🐺😁😁
My dude... I can tell you with absolute certainty that 46:37 is not a factory. Great work on the rescues.
Thank you!! I’ve heard it both ways that it is factory and that it’s not. To me it doesn’t look factory because the wires are always different colors and gauges but I know SEGA did do a lot of modifications with wires like this so I don’t know for sure!! 🐺🐺😁😁
Congrats on the 1K Nick there was some pretty cool fixes the ones you did get going that small wire looks like it would be brutal to work with keep up the awesome content we appreciate it
Thank you!! I really appreciate all the support!! Yeah the small gauge wire is really tricky especially if you’re not using a microscope!! 🐺🐺😁😁

My gosh, I can't believe Wolfman uploaded this video yesterday! Yesterday I also had a Sega Genesis Model 2 come in from eBay that I THOUGHT was going to work but it DOESN'T! I don't have the tools to try and fix it and the seller doesn't offer returns so I'm pretty much screwed! 😞
Man that’s not cool!! I’ll tell you what, I’ll trade you. I’ll send you one of these working consoles and you send me the broken one. If you want to do that shoot me an email so we can make arrangements wolfmanrepairs@gmail.com 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁

I subscribe
Thank you!! It’s much appreciated!! 🐺🐺😁😁
At around 7:23 in the upper left/center you can see 4 cut traces leading from the Controller-Filter-Thingies to those tiny blue holes. 😊 That might be the whole issue.
Thank you!!! I see what you’re saying!! That actually turned out to be some glue or stuck on grossness. I checked continuity from the filter to the ASIC and it has continuity. Unfortunately it’s probably the ASIC. 🐺🐺😁😁
You made it worse the first one
I tend to do that sometimes… 🤣🐺🐺
I've seen the refurbished sticker before on a model 1 in a rental store case I bought off someone. I believe (could be completely wrong) those were refurbished by Sega, especially with all of their bodge wires they were slapping on things from the factory, they might have been selling refurbished units. Also you should take the RF shielding from one of the dead dead units to replace the rusty RF shielding since you have a nice collection of parts consoles now.
I think your right!! The wording seems to suggest that it’s a SEGA refurbished unit!! Most definitely I’m going to put the best RF shielding and shells on the working consoles and the rest is parts!! 🐺🐺😁😁🐺
Congratulations on hitting 1k 🎉🎉
Thank you!!! 🐺🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
A few buttons not working on these is usually a bad CPU. I'm guessing that's why they have filters on the controller ports, and when they go, the CPU takes the hit.
You’re probably right!! I wonder what would cause that. Probably just age!! I can’t believe how old these consoles are now… 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
Congrats on 1k subs bro! Keep the videos coming!.
Thank you!! 🐺🐺😁😁🐺🐺
Good try Wolfmann some success is better than no success. You still got some great wins. Here's what I've learned from watching another youtuber having a similar ASIC problem. I noticed that in the original video that I saw, the pins contained all continuity to the ASIC for each controller pin. The problem I saw was that the buttons that did not work respectively were not recieving 5 volts to their lines as they should. So my guess in theory is if you were to measure each pin on the ASIC on the non working ones for each controller input to see if they have 5 volts across each input pin. If they do not I would try jumping 5v to each input that didn't work to see if that would resolve the issue.
Thank you!! I will have to dive deeper into this console and compare readings with a known good unit!! I have continuity from the filter to the ASIC so I know it’s not a broken trace or anything. I will have to test to see if it’s getting 5v when the button is pressed!! Thanks for the info!! 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
You can't win them all, but I really enjoyed watching your troubleshooting process. Who would've thought that the super rusty one would be the easiest fix!
Thank you!! Yeah that was pretty crazy!! I thought for sure that I was not going to be able to fix that rusted one!! 🐺🐺😁😁
For controller input issues, check the ASIC. It might have an open line on the controller input pins, due to a faulty built-in pull up resistor.
Yup the ASIC is possibly bad too
Thank you for the info!! There is continuity between the filter to the ASIC. I wonder if there’s a way to add a resistor in line up to the ASIC kinda like how you can add a resistor to the game cartridges if they don’t work. I might have to give that a try!! 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
@wolfmanrepairs what you're checking for isn't continuity. You need to set your multimeter to diode mode, like with Genesis carts, and check for the presence of a resistor on the controller lines on the ASIC side. If you get an OL, that means that internal resistor is dead. You could fix it by adding a 10k pull-up resistor to that controller line.
I’m going to give this a try for sure!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!! 🐺🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
Great video again 👏👏
Thank you!! 🐺🐺😁😁
Another fantastic video. Thank you & keep them coming.

Ordered the same parts but I'm getting 9V on the 12V rail 🤔
Check your USB C power supply it might not put out 12v. I had the same thing happen to me with an HP power supply. It did not put out 12v and I was getting only 9v. It was super frustrating!! 🐺🐺😁😁
Thanks. That's likely it. I'll order a new PSU.
Awesome video once again Nick! It's always bizarre for me, hearing the Sonic the Hedgehog title music from an NTSC copy. Being from the UK and using a PAL system, retro games are often so much slower (gameplay and music) and Sonic is a particularly good example
Thank you!! I find it bizarre too but in the opposite way since I’m from the US. I remember the first time I heard a PAL Sonic I thought there was something wrong with the game!! 🤣🐺🐺😁😁
but will you still be able to see the led light when the controller is plugged in?
Unfortunately when you plug the controller in it blocks the LED light 🐺🐺😁😁
@@wolfmanrepairs its still a very cool mod.i love it!!

Great job on the repair Nick you made it look easy I bought one of these once and was going to repair and got the capacitor kit and all then didnt have the confidence in the soldering lol so i sold it on FB Marketplace keep up the awesome content man thanks
Thank you!! Game Gears can be pretty intimidating!! The Game Gear in this video sat for almost a year before I felt comfortable enough to work on it. 🐺🐺😁😁
Congrats on the fix! Changing polarized caps to non polarized caps is interesting. I wonder if that will be fine in the long term and won't cause issues in the future. I asked that because Sega used non-polarized caps in the GG as well (you can clearly see them around the board). So there must be a reason why the caps needing replacing were polarized or else Sega would have just used all non-polarized caps.
Thank you!! Yes I’m wondering that too. I have another Game Gear that I used the same kit on that I play almost daily so I will keep you posted. The kits are from Retro Six and they do some awesome work so I’m pretty confident that this setup will work out great!!🐺🐺😁😁
@@wolfmanrepairs If it's from Retro Six I'm sure using them will be fine. Maybe cap technology has changed since the early 90s and the new non polarized caps work much better now😁

Great video but you didn’t show the rest of the installation. What do you do to fit the board in the shell and what did you do with the hdmi out?
Thank you!! The HDMI installation in the shell and all the shell modifications are in the next video of this series: ua-cam.com/video/vbSM6PiXCTA/v-deo.html I used some 3D printed parts and didn’t have to cut anything. 🐺🐺😁😁
You messed too much with the connector, you risked melting it. All you had to do was tin the wires.
