Hi, is the referral program not giving 7k points apart from the 15k signing bonus anymore ?
Please be aware the 30K Asia Miles welcome bonus is only applicable to brand new customers to the bank, you won't get it if you already have some other products with Neo
Lots of places do not accept Amex. It looks like vendors have to pay higher commission to Amex.
It is quite disappointing that not all restaurants provide the 5x multiplier. And only specific stores provide the 5x multiplier. I think that needs to be taken into account as it makes the card less alluring in practise than on paper.
I have a Gold in Canada, I extract ~$1200 of value from it annually. Most places I shop at take it, especially since ditching Loblaws who doesn’t take AMEX because “they want to keep prices low” (the irony). I like the perks of platinum but can’t justify the annual fee, not even with ‘boy math’!
I haven’t found that too be an issue in Canada at all, other then superstore, no frills and Costcos which I don’t shop at anyways I have only come across a handful of stores, restaurants or a few small local shops that don’t take Amex. The Gold card and Cobalt card are my main two daily use cards. I carry a debit card and a Canadian tire card (which barely get used) in case but only come out maybe two or three times a year. I avoided Amex for years because of people saying this but the last few years have gone mainly Amex for the points earned as it’s easy to get good multipliers with Amex and end up earning a few flights a year or few weekends a year at good high end hotels. Plus I have earned my annual fee back Multiple times over with Amex offers. I have actually come across more US retailers that don’t take Amex come to think of it.
The issue with amex in Canada is that not many stores accept it. I just end up using Visa for my daily use since it's less of a hassle
Another good video. Not always easy competition with other larger channels, but I enjoy your content and reviews. Thanks again!
Glad you like them!
great video ! definitely an underrated card ! Thanks for sharing
This seems like it's the way to play miles and points in countries where points earning on credit cards isn't an option or is weak (because credit card interchange fees are capped at much lower rates). Great video as always, and especially well timed ahead of the Aeroplan 40th anniversary points sale!
Yes, that’s true! Something to keep in mind is that if you’re looking to buy points for a program that’s harder to get to always make sure you open an account 1 month before you actually want to buy the points because most programs don’t allow you to buy points unless your account is at least 1 month old.
If i get both the visa infinite and a cobalt, can i combine the aeroplan points? Im only asking incase i have to use my visa somewhere that doesnt accept amex
I hope your channel starts to get some traction. You are working hard and giving us some great information.
Thank you, we appreciate the support!
Its 1x on all other categories not 1.5x, 1.5x is for the free version
Amex cobalt (5x points eating out and food deliveries) RBC ION+ (x3 points Groceries at loblaws, gas at petro canada -3 cents off. Streaming services. Transfer premium points to Elite points, transfer points to transfer partners same as amex to pool points) RBC Avion Infinite Visa (travel, vip banking to waive $120 annual fee.) Rogers World Elite Mastercard (rogers and shaw bill, costco 2% back, 3% on foreign transaction fees, put earned cashback towards any annual fees) What do you think about this credit card portfolio for a family of four that does a lot of groceries and food deliveries that plans to travel 1-2 times a year on points. What would you change?
Speak more slowly please
So basically don’t get a new credit card because technically we don’t need credit. Basically it’s basically a want. I do want an American Express cashback card, but I have a lot of hard inquiries. They’re pretty old but still a lot.
I don’t think the scotia gold has 3x on travel, it is 3x for rides and transit - travel is only 1x
6X At Sobeys owned grocery stores 5X Dining, Food Delivery, Other grocery stores 5X Entertainment 3X Ride & Drive 2X Listen & Stream 3X Travel (Forbes Advisor)
Do you think the AMEX Cobalt will bring back a bigger sign up bonus anytime soon?
I don't think so, I think the most we have seen is 22K with a referral link bonus
Love the videos, i have almost all RBC’s cards (ion+, Avion infinite, Avion platinum and west jet WE (upgraded from normal west jet) and have amazing credit around 780+, but for some reason I’ve tried applying for AMEX cobalt twice now (waiting 3-6 months inbetween cards) and have between denied both times, tried calling them but thag did nothing, I’m thinking maybe I should just try for the Amex gold or even go for the platinum, any tips or advice ?
That's interesting, I applied for the Cobalt and they approved me pretty easily so it's surprising to hear that you did not get approved. What happened when you gave them a call? What did they say? In terms of going ahead with a Platinum and Gold it really just depends. Usually Platinum and Cobalt customers are very different demographics. The Cobalt is geared to the everyday spend while the Platinum is all about the perks and benefits you get at the airport. The Gold right now feels like the awkward middle child in the line up its not too geared towards travel but has a little bit of lifestyle there. If you're looking for a strong bonus I would opt for the business Gold is a great card instead. I hope this helps!
Amex is going on a mass decline spree. You're not the only one that's getting denied these days.
My man, i love you but you mumble so much
Yeah sorry about that, really gotta focus on slowing down when recording.
I really didn’t notice. I don’t struggle hearing what he’s saying at all.
@@creditverse no worries, keep up with the great content, killing it!
cool video, I am new to the points game! have a cobalt and and a gold card. quick question, why does our gold card suck in compare to the one in the States? and will it improve. Also does it make sense to get the RBC visa on top of cobalt?
Smaller market compared to the US, so we have a weaker card. As for if it will get better, it's really anyone's guess. It may make sense to get the RBC Visa, it just depends on what your goals are - do you want to fly to Europe more, or perhaps Asia?
@@creditverse thanks:) , my wife and I fly to Asia ( India ) every 3 years. We usually book the Air Canada / Lufthansa business class but it just keeps getting expensive all the time and hence the points, no matter how early I book it :(
For Lufthansa, the best availability comes either 355 days out, or 2 weeks before departure - which can make planning trips a little tricky.
@@creditverse good to know :) so for this very particular and weird travel scenario is the RBC visa worth getting or should I just keep the two amexes
I'd stick with the two Amexes, just because you can't transfer RBC Avion points to fly Lufthansa. That being said, if you want to venture outside of AC/LH, you could Avion to fly Qatar Airways through Doha, if that interests you. :)
I’d like to only have one credit card to minimize my wallet, and I need a Mastercard. Overall, is the NBC WE a good all around card?
The NBC WE is an all-rounder that is probably the best value of you NEED a Mastercard.
@@creditverse Thank you! Considering I shop a lot at Costco, it'd make sense to get this Mastercard as only card.
So you are saying Avion points earned by RBC ION+ can be transferred to RBC’s Elite partners like British Airways? Then this card is much powerful in terms of earning rates compared to RBC Avion Visa Infinite that charges the same annual fee but 1 point per dollar spent.
Yeah, why RBC does not give the Avion cards a makeover is one of life's great mysteries... but I'm sure they know more than we do.
i don't know. why they have to add this card when they can apply the earning rates on their avion cards? why make people apply another credit card to transfer to avion points first? the only advantage i can see here is to have an avion no fee card as a placeholder and boost overall credit limit, then again, travelers have other cards as well, so why bother? for me, the only advantage in transfer partnerss is american airlines since i can book japan airlines that way. however, the transfer partner in alaska air miles in mbna world elite mastercard is still on the works. if that goes through, then why go with rbc avion then? if they could make 5x on food, grocery, and dining, that would be on par with bmo rewards, which it would become a no brainer instead and put it to their avion cards
I think most people don't know that you can transfer points between the two, so they redeem at a lower value than the points are really worth and RBC benefits. The 5X would be great on this card, but something to note is that the current 3X is actually technically better than the 5X offered by BMO, as their points are worth 0.67CPP, compared to the ION+ being worth 2CPP when you transfer them to the Avion cards.
The points transfer to the avion visa infinite cards is the icing on the cake and something that is often unknown by other credit card youtubers
I want to contact you.I am speaking from Bangladesh.I need Canadian master card
Thank you for this video! How does someone go about actually booking the middle row double bed seats? I followed your steps but can only book the window seats.
Hi Dylan, from my understanding, you need to call in to Qatar after booking to change yourself to one of the middle seats. Alternatively you can take the Qatar Airways PNR after booking, put it into the Royal Jordanian Airlines site, click 'manage my booking' and it should allow you to book the middle seat. Hope this helps!
Great video! Love the step-by-step tutorial style - keep up the amazing work!
Appreciate the kind words!
After watching this video, I find that RBC Avion Infinite is pretty bad. I pay $120 annual fee but most of time my avion only worth < 1 cent/point. Practically, I have nearly no options to redeem at > 1 cent/point. Any no-feed credit card can do better than this! If I convert avions to BA/CX/AA, I need to spend at least $50,000 each year to be able to redeem an economy ticket?? So, the only reasonable way to use this card is to get welcome bonus, convert the points and then cancel the card.
I think redeeming via the fixed points grid would get you over 1 CPP, but as you said, the earn rates are not the strongest compared to much of the competition. The strategy you described is what many people end up doing to get alot of points pretty fast.
Too easy when there's no annual fee for a WE MC. Only a few of those on the market: Rogers, Triangle, PC Financial...
I have the grandfathered RBC Infinite from HSBC as well and I would like to get the sign up bonus again like you plan on doing. Do you plan on cancelling and waiting a few months and then re-applying?
Yeah most likely when the 55k Avion point offer comes out.
@@creditverse also how are you able to sign up for another aeroplan card? Assuming you have before in the past
In theory, you are only allowed to collect one welcome bonus per 'tier' of Aeroplan card, but the enforcement of that has been relatively lax so far. Aeroplan can always choose to tighten up the policy, so your mileage may vary.
How can it be the best card when no where accepts AMEX.
You're missing the MBNA RE WE MC as a comparative. 5.5x points on more categories than the Cobalt, usable to Loblaw grocery stores and even Walmart Supercentre.
That's a good point! Do you prefer it to the Cobalt?
@@creditverse As someone that go to a grocery store that don't accept Amex, so Cobalt is only for restaurants. Yes I prefer the MBNA
How versatile is the points redemption
There’s no referral link in the description
Good catch, just added it to the description!
I picked it up a couple of months ago because of your other video. The earn rates are crazy. I know most people won't do this, but I transferred 5K MR to Bonvoy and got my whole week's hotel stay in Korea paid in points.
That's a really good deal! Sometimes Bonvoy redemptions come out on top too!
Great video!
Thank you!

🥇
What cards did you use to get that many MR and how long have you been saving them 🤯?
I got the Amex Gold/Platinum/Aeroplan/Green - I started in Feb 2022, so about two years.
Doesnt this depend on if the card issuers are pulling from a mix of either equifax or transuinon?
Yup
What if your not a student or and not working
Really great video I'm trying to book q suites before March next year east coast to Sri Lanka
Glad you enjoyed!
@@creditverse I just booked on BA, i was thinking of booking on Qatar airways but they were asking for more info like passport and the currency was in USD or LKR, it confused me so i just booked on BA. I find however I cannot choose the seats they said it's only available in check in, would seat selection be available immediately on booking directly with Qatar?
Seat selection is available while booking on Qatar. Another thing you could do is see if you were given a QR booking reference # from BA, or put your BA one into the “manage my booking” section on QR’s website. Let me know if this helps!
@@creditverseAtm it says booking not available I'll try again tomorrow 🙏🏼
Hello there, I always enjoy watching a video. I have a quite bit ofPoints from RBC.Just wonder there is anyway, I could connect with you on phone. I have some questions for you. I would appreciate yourresponse. Thanks Ragu.
Hi Ragu, feel free to email me at aalyan@creditverse.ca, and we can find a time to chat.
Well explained in under 10 mins ! Just a quick question, can you not carry over the MR points from your Gold card with a cobalt card which has a much higher earn rate and bonus points instead of a green card ? Or do you already have one ?
awesome value in this video! Thanks!
Good for you guys. I am just getting into the credit card points game in my 60's. Wish I had had the foresight you have at your age. Best of luck in your journey. I will be a regular follower ❤
It's never too late! Glad you're getting into the game now. What has been your favourite card so far?
Great content. I'd love to know how you apply for this many cards every year and not have it negatively impact your credit. I can't imagine applying this much, how do you make it work?
While 'hard checks' do lower my credit score a few points (5-7) every time, the effect goes away within a couple of months. Overall I've actually seen credit score increases after having so many cards because you get an additional 'completed payment' every month. Hope that helps Spencer!
Did you have issue with the Air France KLM Brim mastercard? Service ? pts earned? app?
It took me a few emails back and forth with customer service to get the first part of the bonus added to my account, but overall has been pretty decent.
Why not get the Cobalt instead of the Green?
Annual fee
Would love a video on how you use avion points to book Qatar Q suite flights or even British Airway flights
Very informative. We the audience appreciate your information.
