How to Make Insecticidal Soap To Treat House Plants!
Today I will share with you how I make my own insecticidal soap to treat my houseplants when I bring them home from the store. The goal is to prevent an outbreak and catch any infestations before they infect other plants in your home.
Supplies You Need:
Vegetable Oil
Dish Soap Containing Glycerin
Container to add these ingredients
Spray Bottle
Once you spray your plants down disregard any remaining solution you don't use since it does contain vegetable oil. Make a new batch each time you need to treat your plants.

This is a very beautiful store. Everything feels magical. I loved all the themed trees.
Yes it’s gorgeous love going there gets me in the spirit.
Hi Jacqueline. Do you do this for geraniums and other potted plants that you bring inside for winter?
I check them all and then repot in new soil that I treated with boiling water. Then spray the foliage with this and remove any leaves or stems that are questionable. Then water from bottom.
Great tips! I’ve been doing a similar mixture but with peppermint castile soap, pure cold-pressed neem oil, and distilled water. Works well to ward off thrips and spider mites.
Great recipe I will have to try that one.
❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks you can grow them from seed but a lot of patience is required and don’t over water let them dry out a bit.
Hi Jacqueline! Bonny
Are you ready for the holidays?
@@creatingmygarden No
I have a 1year old Christmas cactus, I put it in an unheated green house to induce growth how long do I leave it there, do I wait until new growth comes before I bring inside
Depends how warm the green house is they are cactuses so they like warmth. If you’re wanting growth and it’s not in bloom feeds it with fertilizer once a month. If you want blooms it needs some darkness. I keep Mine in a west window they seem to prefer it there and do well if I move them to another window they slow down growth window and don’t bloom as often. My house is around 21 Celsius year round if that helps.
Should you water the plant before spraying with the this bug spray? ,lovely plants..thanks for these helpful hints..💙🌱🇺🇲🇨🇦
I would water it from the bottom unless your gonna treat it with the mosquito bits then use that to treat and soak the soil.
Wow that's amazing, the wind sound concerning, stay safe.. do you have a snowblower or shovel by hand? This year my husband decided to hire a company to plow driveway and snow blow out sidewalks..☃️❄🌬
I am stunned!
Winter over night!
I bought mine at Walmart and they came with a lot of spider mites, how can I get rid of the spider mites?
Mix up a solution of 1 tbsp dish soap to I pint water and 1 tbsp of vegetable oil and spray the top and under the leaves then treat the soil with the mosquito bites you just have to scrap some mosquito bite off into container of water let it dissolve and treat the soil then do this again in 2 to 3 weeks till their all gone
Dawn works good any dish soap so long as it has glycerin in it
The vegetable oil helps the soap stick to the plant
Thank you
Great sales.💙🌱🇺🇲🇨🇦
Ice to some in winter
Enjoyed video. Your pots are so beautiful...have you ever thought about swapping out seasonal containers or does the winter weather not make container plants survive ? could you move the seasonal containers with putinias and such by dolly to where you think they could be more sheltered for next year till you need them? Im zone 5/ 6 depending on winter wind coming off from lake ontario and Canada weather coming down into my state.. ..
Thank you so much I wish I could keep them going over winter I would have to bring them inside. I did take some cuttings but that’s about it. Next year I may do more. We freeze solid here even for perennials in pots the pots need to be dug into the ground if I leave in the pots or brought in such a lot of Work either way so I just take them out of the pot plant them into the ground. The joys of our cold winter in zone 3.
Thank you for the tour theres was so many beautiful items I would've definitely enjoy browsing that store with you and your friend the pink poinsettias were lovely i think i wouldve purschased one of those and maybe a pink bird ornament, unfortunately now were back to hunking down and just stocking up on food items and just needed essentials Due to outcome of election( if you pray please sending a blessing to those of us who chose democracy and constitutional civil rights verus chaos grievance and hate...sighhhhh). Your channel is a much need breathe of beauty and peace.thank you again.💙🇺🇲🇨🇦
Ohhhhh those poppies are beautiful, i just have red ones, are they considered pink or salmon colored?💙🇺🇲🇨🇦🌱

Thats very calming and relaxing right about now if i could id pull up a chair and sketch out the greenery..💙🚶♀️🛋📒✍🇺🇲🇨🇦
💙that was awesone !!sooooo now i know where all my dragonflies have gone to, its a dance rave in canada lol🇺🇲🇨🇦
Ive seen some gardeners bring in their coleus during winter times also ive seen them harverst the seeds and start seedlings.. my lottery win would be a greenhouse that has heatingvand a/c capabilities, just know their would be signs if there was a lottery winner in my area..lol
Really pretty, i like the shapes of the hydrangeas ,the leaves are interesting also the stems add winter interest during long cold spells..
Lovely combinations of plants, the plants looked like they are dancing to the music.💙🇺🇲🇨🇦🌱🌷🎶
Like the combinations of your plants and shrubs..💙🌱🇺🇲🇨🇦
Thats a great find..💙🇺🇲🇨🇦 gardeners really need extra shovels ..lol
We sure do especially if we misplace them all the time lol
Ohhhhh wow thats awesome i saw the auroa borealis once in my state of NY it was over 20 years ago it was a surreal experience really beautiful.
💙🐦
Ohhhh was that a coral christmas cactus ? If so thats major color score thanks for showing us your plants.
Those are excellent prices, sad tho i cant shop in canada id have to drive over 24 hours to shop at your store, plus you know the whole thing with the canadian/ usa border guards letting me bring in plants from canada to usa without a horticultural grower permit..lol glad you were able to score such good prices.💙🌷🇺🇲🇨🇦
Yes I run into that when travelling always find something I want to bring back.
I went and bought one, now my bedroom is full of spider mites! 😢 I put the beautiful plant in a bag and tied it up. Now how do I get rid of the itchy problem? And the spider mites??
Did you remove the plant from the bedroom and do you have other plants in there?
I would pull all my bedding out and wipe everything down with an insecticidal soap to get rid of them. Wash your bedding good. That is absolutely terrible. I am so sorry that happened I haven’t had that issue with those plants before just gnats. Let me know how you make out I should probably do a video on spider mites cause they can cause havoc.
@@creatingmygardenYes, I do have other plans in here, hopefully I got it out in time. Unfortunately I had just washed my bedding the day before I bought the plant. But I’m still itchy, so I will need to do it again. I wiped everything down with rubbing alcohol, didn’t seem to work. It was such a beautiful plant. 😢
@dollypockets28 I feel for you hopefully you will get them out and get the plant under control.
Very thorough! Another site suggested a cool room. What do you think? And how incredibly generous of you to GIVE them away!
Thanks so much l thinks cool room is fine mine are in full sun and all starting to bloom now some are more ahead of others I will be doing a video of them on the next week waiting for more buds to open. I keep mine on west windows they seem to love it there pretty warm there right now till the snow flies but they seem to be ok there over winter too.
I also live in nh where we can get 4 to six feet of snow in a winter
We have been lucky this year and haven’t had much yet but I think it will change this week. We get that bone chilling cold as well down to -40c and with wind into the 50s I don’t look forward ton-that.
What if my minis are 2 feet tall should I trim anything down.
If they are lanky give them a trim. If you are gonna protect them for the winter then just make sure they’re covered well.
Where is their blooming ?
They bloom around end of July August.
How to take care of a wonder Jew plant
Put them in a window and water them when they are dry also pinch them back to encourage them to spread you could also fertilize once a month.
I didn't order any iris for this fall. What a beautiful iris collection Jacqueline. I didn't soak mine and they were fine. Bonny
Last year I didn’t soak them and they did ok but I thought I will try following their instructions and see if it makes a difference. I love all the colours I wish they were rebloomers maybe next fall I will order the rebooking collection.
If you let them sit and rest for a few years in the original spot you put them in they will double maybe triple and then you can split them In half, I divide my iris every three years, some times I just place them in a spot to heal over the winter like you've done and when they start growing nicely I'm like ohhh you like it there okay that's your home for the next few year grow be happy see you again in three years lol..💙🇺🇲🇨🇦🌱
I could use you in my garden I have my iris in the front garden that I have not divided for probably seven years yet it’s still full of flowers and hasn’t gotten that hole in the centre but I definitely need to get at it after it blooms this spring. Definitely every 3 years is the goal and I need to get on top of it. I have another one that should be at the 3 year mark to divide as well as a peach coloured miniature iris my neighbour gave to me that is gorgeous so I will do a video after their done blooming and divide them. By saying that out loud and confessing my plant sin I have to do it now lol.
It's my understanding that coffee grounds are good for roses but not for clematis. Egg shells are suggested for clematis.
Egg shells are great for all plants it’s a source of calcium and provides the plants with additional minerals that the soil may be lacking it’s great for Clematis. Other then that you can fertilize your clematis if you like I rarely do that cause I tend not to fertilize perennials and shrubs. Coffee grounds are best for acid loving plants I do not use it on Clematis. I used crush egg shells around the Clematis in this video and I probably do this once a year. Otherwise depending on the type of Clematis I treat them based on the growers instructions.
Cute trees 🎄 and tons of ornaments!
They have a nice variety probably only place here that decorates like that.
Hi I’m in Mexico right now and figure I’ll have to water my hydrangeas again when I get home as it’s been unseasonably warm in Manitoba! 🇨🇦🌴🍁
I was thinking king the same thing that I should water them this weekend the new ones that I planted this year.
Hi 👋 may I ask you about incrediball/anabelle hydrangeas! Where I live we have quite some wind and harsh winters I would guess our climate is similar 😊 but my hydrangeas are not looking as good as yours… they leaves break and look terrible as soon as we have had storms… I do notice in comparison to all other hydrangeas I have these are the most thirsty… can you relate to this issue? The stems are strong and all of that they problem I have that the leaves look ugly since we always have strong winds by the coast… I have thought about amending the soil to better condition but I don’t know 😢
They look shabby give them a really good prune. Remove all old wood that is frail or looks beat up and clean out the inner branches to let more air go through. Mine are thirsty as well especially in full sun. Every few years I think giving them a good hard prune makes them stronger I do the same thing with my snowball bushes too your rejuvenating them. We are super windy as well. Another thing to do is stake them to give a bit of support with the wind mine are in front of an 8 foot fence and they have done well there till the fence fell on them now they are pruned down to the ground.
Here I am. You're weekend watcher. I love that planting for you this year has carried into November. Looking forward to seeing all your fall plantings next season.
I love that you love fall planting this is my favourite time to plant cause of all the choices on sale that I can get and then anticipate their blooms for spring. I am already excited to get other areas of the garden changed and colourful.
Oh my word. What a lovely place you have to shop at. Love the owls and the polar bears ❤
It’s really nice in there they do a great job their trees are beautiful this year they had a lot of the upside down trees.
@creatingmygarden most of the nurseries around me in Ontario close for the winter. What are the prices like? Everything here is so expensive and even the box stores don't put on huge sales
@barbjesson yes very expensive here at the nurseries as well and I find Home Depot really expensive at this time of year.
That was fun... The new colors are tempting but I am going to stick with the plan and shop my attic, pulling out all the traditional red, green and gold this year. It will be fun to use things that I haven't used for years.
I usually add maybe one or two ornaments every year I have a bird thing going on and I do a small dog tree in memory of our dogs.
So exciting!!!!
Lots of pretty things.
Love those cardinals and owls. It's a winter wonderland. Thanks for the tour Jacqueline! Bonny
Yw I love the birds too
Hello 👋 so many cute stuff, I wish I was in Canada 😊 please make a video soon on your Christmas cacti and how much they grown since last Christmas I’d like that❤
Sounds good we have a few places to shop here not a lot.
