I like a variety of colors in a garden for contrast and like you I lean heavily into colors I wear - brighter summer colors. Coneflowers are one of my favorites and I've always left the seed heads on. Good to know that more flowers would come if I cut them. I could leave those on.
Hi Jacqueline, that coneflower cleaned up nicely, doesn't look like a bargain plant at all. I went to Home Depot on Wednesday and didn't find clearance shade plants that I wanted. There were lots of Stella D'oro daylilies various grasses and some penstemon that weren't hardy enough for my garden. So I went home empty handed (unusual lol).
Hi Terria I have started going to the north store they have all their hostas and astilbe on sale for $3 and staff were willing to make down a number of other plants. Way better shopping experience than the east store which was disappointing.
@@terriapearce915 I am going to head over there this morning and see what else they have put on sale I can let you know here in the comments what I find. Is there anything in particular you’re looking for I can check it out.
@@creatingmygarden Bergenia , heuchera and lungwort are on my list. I'm pretty sure I'll have to look for lungwort in the spring. I hope you find some good deals for your yard.
I find cutting them back a couple times a season after they blooms help them to spread out a bit and they are stronger I do that with cosmos and zinnias as well plus they bloom more. Lots of sun they are heat seekers.
Coneflowers are one of the staples in my garden. Love them all.
I managed to get some more yesterday in a few other colours I am loving the red pink too.

Definitely worth collecting the seed.
I love coneflowers. I admit I don't deadhead them. I just let them go to seed. Bonny
Their seed heads are very beautiful I don’t blame you can you have to many coneflowers? Lol
