Luxinda's Other Obsessions
United States
Приєднався 3 гру 2021
Welcome to my newest channel, everyone! On my older channel, I create resin tumblers, usually with loads of swirls in them. However, the viewers there aren't always as interested in seeing videos on my other obsessions (Paper, Ink, Boxes, Molds, Stickers, and much more) as I am in playing with those other things, so I've created this channel -- Luxinda's Other Obsessions (LOO) -- to house everything else that I really enjoy doing, exploring, and experimenting with.
Could This Finally Be What Creates BLACK Aqua Cast??
Since I first started playing with Aqua Cast, I've been trying to find a pigment that will turn it black. Not gray, but actually black. I started by testing the many, many colorants and pigments I already have in the werkroom, with varying degrees of success -- the best being black acrylic paint, but it would seize up the Aqua Cast mixture so it would no longer pour nicely into a mold... After going through all that, I finally wised up and decided to seek out a pigment specifically for concrete or plaster. And that led me to this Marblers Jet Black Extra Strength color pigment for concrete, grout, cement, etc. So this is what I'm testing in this video, along with a couple fun new micas from SolarColorDust.com (10% discount code: luxinda). Let's just say that the black and holo gods laughed and laughed and laughed.

Using a Paper Marbling Kit with Aqua Cast??

After watching a recent Louise Singleton video ( ua-cam.com/video/hLP-pgoIc8k/v-deo.html ), I knew I had to give marbling onto Aqua Cast a try I mean the title of her video even says I have to! Thank you for explaining this I did it with the Lazer waterslide now Iv done it with inkjet and boom it works thanks for sharing ❤️
Glad it helped - thanks for watching! 😊
Wow amazing iv just subscribed love this video 👌❤️
Thank you!! Welcome 😊

What? I don’t get it. How have I never known about this? This is awesome thank you

I believe you can use those moulds to make Christmas wreaths. Somebody just made some Christmas wreaths and now I wish I paid more attention as to who that was something to do with Glass lady or something anyway I love this. Thank you so much.❤❤❤
Thank you!! I think you’re right - those molds could definitely be used for wreaths! 😊🎄
can it sit for overnight?
Yes, it can sit in the solution overnight for maximum crystal growth. 😊🦄
Love the screen comment- basically doesn't matter wtf you do as all muddle together lol
So true 😁
In love with the skull, the big sq is amazing ❤ nicely done 😊😊
Thank you so much 😊
Can you make a three layer skull using a aqua cast with yellow pls? ❤❤❤ I like the first heart😊
That is nice❤😊
Thank you!😊
Been pulverising that green with your muller aye?! 👌😅
Not gonna lie, i get better results just printing a blank page and putting my print and foil through the rollers half the time 😅 odd occasion where the foil may curl or crumple a bit but its rare haha. Ill get a laminator though i think, might work a little smoother
I don’t doubt it - most of the time I think it’s not so much the machinery or the tools as it is just repeated testing to find out what works best in each person’s situation. Come back and let us know how it goes with a laminator.
@LuxindasOtherObsessions I shall do, I had two foils and one looks scratchy and the other works perfectly but leaves a glitter effect on the paper which is fine for me, but I'll try in the morning and get back on that 😅 most cases, it's the foil used, not the machines. All foils react differently and everyone seems to run to minc or deco foil which isn't needed imo
Ty it helped me alot with mine I lost the instructions❤😊 TY
Glad it helped!🦄
@@LuxindasOtherObsessions I subbed 😁😋👍❤️
l will try the sub paper to the back. My new 8850 is not taking the film as my broken 2720 did without any taping of paper. *Tip: For roller marks, you can also use a Q-tip and rub those streaks away too, fresh out the printer.
blowing powder is never a good idea (for your lung health)... also.. micro plastic pollution is a thing.. I am thinking of hot plate to make things better.

Just tried with my daughter and it formed big crystals at the bottom😂 one nug on the chin . Hardly anything on the unicorn 😂
Oh, that stinks!! I'm sorry it didn't give you and your daughter better results. At least you're laughing about it. 😁
Brilliant, i'm waiting on a delivery of aquacast, i've used others and have tried them with brushos but the results from used extra water really makes a difference. I sprinkled mine through the powder and then for something else I coloured the water with them
Oh, I never thought of coloring the water with Brusho, too - great idea! Have fun with the Aquacast 😊😊
@@LuxindasOtherObsessions it's arriving tomorrow I wanted to try Pixie Powders but can't find them anywhere 😀
DId Hiipoo go out of business? Website doesn't appear to have any products and can't find the decal sheets you used anywhere!
Great question, I’m not sure. Let me go take a look.👀
Well, it does indeed seem like Hiipoo has migrated to strictly sublimation supplies, no more waterslide paper. Huh! Okay, well, my second-favorite waterslide paper is Sunnyscopa. And they’re still selling inkjet waterslide paper. Remember to get the inkjet version even though you’ll print it with a laser printer. amzn.to/3yUY7iv
@@LuxindasOtherObsessions fab thanks for the new supplier! :)
Glad to see you got it to work but I think the issue for me is if the laser printer would melt the decal sheet and possibly damage the printer? Laser printers can run at up to 400 degrees Celsius which is pretty hot so I'd be at least a bit concerned that this would melt the sheet! It seems it worked okay when you tested it though :)
Well, I certainly don’t want you to risk your printer for this, but I will say I did this process (inkjet waterslide paper printed on a laser printer with black toner) many times and never had an issue. In all honesty, the potential problem you’re describing never even occurred to me. But that’s still no guarantee - you’ll need to make that decision.
Just found your channel. Love that you don’t faff around and get right to it. Also really love your work.❤
Thanks so much! And welcome 🤗
I love them both and apologize that I am unable to decide which one I like best. Are they food safe? Did I see a flash of Colbert? That was funny.😊
Thank you! They probably aren’t food safe, although I think the Aqua Cast one would be if sealed with a food-safe sealer like beeswax. However they can both hold wrapped foods no problem for a display of cookies or candy, etc.😊
And yes, I think I did use a clip of Colbert in there 😁
@LuxindasOtherObsessions Thank you for that. Can't wait to try Aqua Cast. I might love the fact that it cures in a short span of time. 👍
@@LuxindasOtherObsessions 😂
Watching this now that Micheals has a version of this that I love.
Makes it a lot easier to get ahold of here in the US 😁
Can you do a letter? I am to foil envelopes
I would think so. You can foil pretty much any paper product that will go through a laminator, so a letter or an envelope (or both) should work fine. Good luck!
I love the skull 🙂 . I have just pured one using shaved ice holographic glitter. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Oooh, that should be awesome!!
@@LuxindasOtherObsessions Thank you. I will demold it tomorrow 🙂
@@LuxindasOtherObsessions Are you still making resin projects?
@@ParanormalGirl5 I still work with resin, but I stopped making UA-cam videos about a year ago.
@@LuxindasOtherObsessions Aww no. I have my channel here on the paranormal but I mostly make resin things these days.
Thank you for sharing ❤ have you tried heating your image from the underside?
No I haven’t, but that’s a great idea!!
Is there a way to hide the edges?
The best way I’ve found to not have waterslide edges show (or not show much) is to fix the waterslide image after you print it or foil it with a couple layers of Plastidip Glossifier spray. Once dry, trim as close to the image as possible and apply them to a shiny flat surface. So if you want to apply the waterslide directly onto a painted tumbler, use a gloss spray paint on the tumbler, or (even though it takes longer) apply a layer of resin first then apply the waterslide once the resin hardens. Hopefully this helps. It can take some experimenting to find the best method for you.
Blue is my favorite...
Thanks!😊
I don't paint in watercolor but if I want to make metallic acrylic paint I mix metallic eye shadow powder with some acrylic paint more metallic powder eye shadow than acrylic paint).I buy the metallic eye shadow powder and the acrylic paint from dollar stores
That’s great! Good idea 😊
Before watching these videos. I had always thought we could use eyeshadow pigments. Did it work for You?
@@rosalbalourdesleos4893Sure, I know a lot of folks use metallic eyeshadows crushed up, because they’re made from pressed micas. Are they all exactly the same quality? I honestly don’t know. But if something works for you, that’s great!
@@rosalbalourdesleos4893 Yes
I like the aqua cast bowl.
Thanks - it turned out very pretty!
Oh my God! Love it. Is there any substitute of arabic gum?
Thank you! That’s a great question, but I’m not entirely sure since I didn’t do any further research beyond this point. My guess is that there are other liquids you can use, so you may have to check out some more UA-cam videos by people who are more familiar with the technique than I am and can recommend substitutes.
Thank you @@LuxindasOtherObsessions
Mine barely covered two toddler t shirts 😅 I don’t see how you got even one adult shiet halfway covered 😂
Oh no! I honestly don’t remember too much about this particular situation, but maybe your kit somehow got short-changed on materials. About the only thing I remember is how strong the bleach fumes were 😵💫 Thank you for watching!!
Never thought on using my brushos thanks
I’m always looking for new ways to use Brusho crystals - love playing with them (I’m very easily amused). Thanks for watching! 😊
Everytime you swatch tested a mixture, I caught myself saying OOOOH out loud!
Right?! They really are pretty! Thanks for watching 😊
Great job!❤
Thank you! 😄
Thank you for sharing. Personally I mix the color in my water then add the powder. I have had luck with a combination of ink acrylic paint and jacquard acid dye in powder form. Color concentration is still iffy but the color is beautiful. I've had my acid dyed for a couple of decades - probably still made but not sure.
Good quality handmade watercolour are made of Goma Arabica, Mica powder, Glycerin (Prevents the watercolour from drying out and breaking) and honey (Gives watercolour shine)
Is there any substitute of arabic gum?
@@ShimiAli-l3d For Watercolor, No.
I tried this and it foiled the whole piece of waterslide paper what did I do wrong?
Hi! Sorry to hear that. The time I tried it and got that same result as you, I was using a waterslide paper that was rated for both inkjet and laser printers, thinking that would be great cuz I could use it for pretty much any type of waterslide I needed. But the foil stuck to the entire sheet. 🤬 However, if that’s not what you used. If you used waterslide paper specifically for inkjet printers in your laser printer, then that’s a little trickier to figure out. I would try getting a different brand of inkjet waterslide paper and see if that solves the problem. Another possibility is that somehow too much laser toner got onto the waterslide paper when you printed, and the foil basically stuck to everything. If you have a color laser printer, try printing with your printer set to monotone black (if that’s an option in your printer settings). Color laser printers make black by using all of the toner colors, so it’s not really a true black and might mess things up a bit. I’m sorry don’t have a more definitive solution, but see if a different brand of inkjet waterslide decal paper helps, and please come back and let us know!
@@LuxindasOtherObsessions thank you for your input, I used laser printer waterslide paper. I will try using inkjet paper in the laser printer
Ohhhh, ok, yes, that’s definitely the problem. It has to be inkjet waterslide paper, because waterslide paper made for laser printers is too sticky when it’s heated up with the foil, so - as you found out - the foil sticks to the entire thing. If you rewatch this video at about the 1:19 minute mark, I do say that it has to be inkjet waterslide paper that you use in a laser printer. That’s the key. So you should be all set then. Good luck 😊
Oh man it's still not black :(
Did you see Louise singleton’s latest video on black for aqua cast? ua-cam.com/video/1AO6yla5chw/v-deo.htmlsi=B0SLlf0wwZn5H_NB
Got my first aqua cast this weekend and wasted half a big tube of black acrylic paint and all i got was a mid-grey ... glad i found your channel, i'll have to find something similar to this concrete pigment. Liked and subbed :)
Oh I feel your lack-of-black pain 🖤 this is definitely a downfall for what is otherwise an awesome casting product. Because I’m in the US and getting items from Eli-chem in the UK is pricey, I still haven’t tried their black colorant. I hope you find the magic black!!
@@LuxindasOtherObsessionsIf i do i'll tell you straight away and end your suffering ;+}
@@LuxindasOtherObsessionsApparently iron oxide might work, it does for concrete. I have a bag of iron oxide from my days of making custom magnets, just have to find it now.

You're welcome - thank you for watching!😊😊
Wish I had a laser printer
Yeah, I know that’s a real problem for folks with creating this particular type of waterslide. The one workaround that another viewer suggested is to put your graphic print file(s) onto a flash or thumb drive, and take that plus some of the inkjet waterslide paper to a business service place like Kinkos. They can print your graphics onto the waterslide paper using their laser copier, which uses the same black toner. Then you take those prints home and do the foiling yourself with a laminator or minc foiling machine. It’s obviously more work but quite a bit cheaper than buying a laser printer.
Absolutely love your bowls tbey both look great! I'm from Scotland in the UK I buy aquacast regularly as I just love working with it. Have you found a favourite way to colour your aquacast x
Thank you! Isn’t it great stuff to work with?? Honestly, after trying a bunch of different things like Brusho crystals, acrylic inks, acrylic paints, mica powder, alcohol ink, etc, I think the best colorants are the ones made specifically for Aqua Cast by eli-chem or similar casting compound colorants like for Jesmonite. If you find anything better, let me know 😁
I think I like the epoxy blue better though both are beautiful

Will this work with an inkjet printer? I don’t have a laser printer
Unfortunately, it won’t. The thing that the foil sticks to is the black laser toner. Another option is to have a thumbnail drive with your design saved on it and take it to a place like Kinkos where they can print it out on a laser copier so you’ll have it printed with the correct toner.
Both are fantasic, but the resin bowl does it for me
