Ivy Railway Welcomes Simon Bibby. 7 1/4" Gauge Grumpy Scamp Running Session w/ Minimal Gauge Coach.
Переглядів 67621 день тому
The Scamp comes out for a running session with my old mate Si Bibby and all goes well! The ever-inventive Simon created new terminology for the railway. We had fun and Simon agreed to work for the railway full time for no pay and terrible conditions. With my Scamp petrol - electric locomotive which I purchased from the builder. I built the coach using old bits and bobs and ready-built Abbots bo...

My minimal gauge garden line is almost four years old. This last few weeks when the weather allows and I have had time, I have been constructing a shelter overhanging the bank towards the far end of the railway. This shows progress up to near completion and also some running shots and a two coach train running in the sun, including a full run. Motive power is my trusty Phoenix 'Hefty class' bat...

With summer almost here, but hampered by ridiculous amounts of rain and other stuff, the railway hasn't been very active. Most time has been spent cutting back weeds and building a new platform. Work has started on a little shelter. Some nice running footage through the tunnel and the rest of the railway. The greenery is looking lovely and lots of flowers have appeared along the line.
Statfold Model Railway Exhibition / Steam Weekend 2024

An amazing event. Sarah and I visited Statfold last Sunday and spent six hours looking around the exhibition and railway as well as the new 12 1/4" line. Having never visited before, it was a bit of a shock; how good it all is and how much there is to see. 6 hours felt like 2 and I was dashing from layout to layout. I would really urge everyone to visit. Locos everywhere and lines everywhere. T...

I have created a short film of the railway using multiple clips from the past and some, as yet unseen footage. The film was inspired by Geoffrey Jones's railway films such as 'Locomotion', 'Rail' and 'Snow'. Most of the footage is my own with a few bits taken by friends. Drone footage by Lawrie Rose. I hope this serves as a nice introduction to the railway and some of the stuff that has been go...

Thank you Keith and Co for a very interesting video! We loved it all! Beautiful scenes and great to see the Steam railways. We had a giggle with how you pronounce that place ending in z! Haha!😊
Thanks again Susan!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great stuff thanks 👍
Thank you!
Ian. And just how small IS the Ivy Railway? Your weather was very nice, We just had a 113 degree day here in Arizona. Enjoyed watching the pleasant, quiet scenes of all the narrow gauge railways. Another great video.
Thanks Mike! We haven't had it really hot here as yet. My railway is 90 yards long.
Welsh country side is so beautiful. Moving that engine back and forth would get old kind of fast. Elvinley is looking great, have a great summer!
Thank you!
All you need now is a little shelf on the back of Ivy to put the coupling pin while running round so it doesn't get lost
Good plan!
Brilliant Ian, we really enjoyed this video. It was great visiting the other railways, as well as the Ivy Railway. I really must get round to visiting the WHR, and or one of the other railways . Have you seen our two videos taken at the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway last year. Hopefully, there will be an update on my grandson's 009 layout coming in a couple of weeks time. Oh, have you seen our latest video, Bin Day... Cheers James 🙂👍
Must watch that!
Completely charming as always Ian! Thank you!
Thanks a lot Stan!
I loved the WHR. When I went on it the guard sang the station names. That made my holiday. I really enjoyed this video and the updates to the Ivy Railway, thankyou for sharing.
Thanks Alan! It is a great line; really impressive.
Howdy from Texas. Excellent video. Well done, sir. 🫡
Thank you!
❤
Are you open to visits to the line? Always thought you were in Cornwall (no idea why). Currently on holiday just outside Milford Haven with my Better half. Tony (aka Scamp No20)
So sorry Tony - I just saw this. Are you still there?

Me and hubby loved all your shinanegans!!!! Proper chuckle vision!!!! All in your beautiful little bit of garden railway heaven! Thanks Ian!😊
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
It's like watching Vic and Bob back in the 90s 😂
Best compliment ever!
Another memorable event. Have you given thought to using your bands music for background on your Ivy? After all it should be royalty free. I didn't do anything worthwhile all day. Then I watched this video.
Thanks Mike! I do use my other band's music for the intro and have used some of my solo stuff in the past as background music and as the old intro.
I'm curious, did you guys ever have a drummer spontaneously combust on stage? Great vid, thanks for posting.
No, but one did suffer a bizarre gardening accident. Thanks!
... or record an album where the 'Dobly' wasn't quite right ...?
Another interesting video, with a little musical ramblings thrown in for good measure. I've been listening to folk duo Painted Sky after recently seeing them supporting Blair Dunlop. Travelling up to Chesterfield, our neck of the woods. Right all this talk of music has got me in the mood. Now, what to listen to, rock ,folk, prog, country 🤔 actually, I might check out some of your offerings. ...cheers James 😁👍
Thanks James!! We do folky stuff as well as heavier stuff as well.
@Elvinley I've just listened to 'Lavender Garden', which I enjoyed. I'll be having a trawl through through some more tomorrow. I'll see if I can stumble across the folky stuff as well ...cheers James 🙂👍
@@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY That's excellent - thanks James! The photos in that vid are of my late parents. Dad got me into railways. Try this for a folky medieval one we did: ua-cam.com/video/ohjwPgN1HFs/v-deo.html&ab_channel=MySilentWake-Topic
@Elvinley Hi Ian, I wondered if the photos had any connection. As well as your recommendation, I've just been listening to 'A Garland Of Tears' there's some good tracks on there. I can't say that your style of music is something I've really listened to much. But I've got a very broad taste in music, and will be giving some more of your music a listen to ...cheers James 🙂👍
That's great... thanks for listening James!
Christian Speed Metal... you guys are a blast. The beginning B&W shooting up your shorts was a bit awkward - not recommended. But all fun
I think we kept our modesty rather well thank you very much sir! No Sharon Stone moments.
Sadly
@@kristybibby5916 Haha!! You need to see the outtakes. Filthy.
Blessings, Ian!
Love these videos. I'd work for free on the IVY Railway.
Get yerself down here then!
Amazing work and dedication, Ian! It's a pleasure to watch The Ivy Railway in action. It was also a pleasure to meet you at the West Wales Model Railway Exhibition last weekend.
And you! Thanks so much Dan!!
Hi Ian.... Me and my hubby loved this video! We have been watching your vids for a few years now! To see how your railway has developed and grown has been great viewing! We really appreciate all your hard work and your creativity! We love the virtual train rides, the birdsong, the flowers and the views! Its amazing because it looks as if its been there forever! Your new creation is great..... Obviously very comfy! And love the windows....Those views are stunning!
Oh thanks so much Susan! Your comments are always so encouraging!
Very relaxing ... the perfect antidote to, well, everything else. Thanks Ian 👍
Absolutely! Thanks a lot Dave!
Brilliant...wish I had one of those.....😁
Thanks Stephen!
All you need now is a few signal boxes down the line and you can run an intense service 😂
We could anyway as long as we go slowly!
Loved the nonsence as well as the train running. Was interesting to hear that you have slate in the ground. I presume that helps keep the hillside stable. The area in which I live (in New Zealand) has no rock in the hills - it's all clay - so in heavy rain slips/mudslides are common.
Glad you enjoyed the vid! I'm sure the slate and rocks do help keep things stable. You do have landslides and movement occasionally in this area but I have been lucky so far.
Looking lovely and "planted " now mate !
Thanks mate! Yes definitely established now.
Lovely tour. Thank you. What a bit of work you've completed! Ivy Rwy definitely has an old-world charm along with a playful wink. If you decide to work on your 5" gauge, I hope you can film some more of that as well. Blessings!
Thanks a lot Stan! Will do.
Thanks, that was a great summary tour. Love your friends. I never suggested going up the roadway. I was suggesting getting permission from the folks across the roadway to carry on down their drive and find a place to loop around down there. Does not look like a bust roadway and bet you could imbed your track into the short expanse of asphalt ? Or maybe you could start tunneling into your hillside and make a Mine Ride...ha Collin First(sp) could help ya!
Others have suggested it though! I think it would be illegal to plant a railway line through a public road so I'm not going to attempt it! A mine would be very fun but scary!
Never hurts to ask!
great work,it looks really good, peace and best wishes.......................jpj
Thanks a lot John!
Ian. That past accident 12:02 was totally preventable. You have "Dead Slow" signs posted everywhere. How could something like that happen? Perhaps it is time to publish a time table. Will you honor a transfer ticket from the steam railway? Mike
It was my fault for telling him to go faster to get up the gradient. He was leaning back a lot though! Since then the gradient has been eased and the loco has been improved.
Another enjoyable video, you've certainly put a lot of time and effort into creating your railway. It looks great. On another subject, have you seen my grandson's first video documenting his 009 layout. He's recently uploaded it, and he's talking about the buildings he's making on it ... Cheers James 🙂👍
Must check that out thanks James!
@@Elvinley he's been inspired by your 009 layout 🙂👍
@@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY Can't believe how talented he is at such a young age!
@@Elvinley I agree with you there, he's doing much better than I expected him to do. He seems to be really enjoying his modelling at the moment and is looking forward to seeing yours again. He's also posted another stop-motion animation video, a Stormy Day in Dylington ...cheers James 🙂👍

Thank you so much! Great to meet you too!
Enjoyed meeting you and chatting about your layout today at the Bronwydd show. Dave
Thanks a lot Dave! Good to chat with you!
Lovely to share the life on your railway update! Your creation looks like its been there forever! We love all the new details and glad you are having visitors and some fun in the dry! We are in the S.E and have had only a few dry days since Nov. Your videos are a joy! Thank you!😊
Thanks so much! The weather has gone bad again but I needed to work on a layout for a show at the weekend so not a problem. At least the moss likes the rain!
A nice update Ian, the shelter is looking great and has lots of character ...cheers James🙂👍
Thank you!
Perhaps having a slight down grade into the goods yard makes for smoother switching. when shoving a lot of cars. Amazing stay alive. Fights dirt, contacts and any slight bumps in the track.
Yeah it's well worth installing.
Ian. Another great video. How do you measure the 90 meters "295 feet" ? Where is MP 0 (meter post zero)? Are you using scale MP's? If I remember you had your track plan showing in an earlier video. I always look forward to your next installment. Lots of flavor. Mike
Thanks Mike. That was a mistake. I should have said 90 yards. I started at the road end and worked along with a tape measure. I measured it to half way around the balloon loop.
Excellent, Ian. The IR is looking really lush. When the summer (ha) gets too hot to handle I'll come back to this video to cool off. I see you have felted the new shelter but would you consider adding roofing slates on top? There must be the raw material knocking about to do that. Probably a lot of work though.
Oh thanks a lot! I did actually think of it but you can't really see it through the vegetation!
I have never heard of "stay alive" and I will research it. But I certainly do like the concept especially when going over points can cause a bit of an unwelcome jitter. Also to be able to lift the loco off the rails in order to clean wheels would be a great idea.
Yes it is a very welcome bit of technology!
What I've got for my Tug "Wolsey" which has a very similar cab to the Hefties is the see-through cover from a plastic greenhouse. I can drop that over the cab if I think it will be raining - it even has the double zipped front that I use as a door. It also is good in cold weather as it is a greenhouse, so warms up quickly. It has proved it worth a number of times when public running with nowhere to seek shelter to protect the inside of the cab.
Very good plan! The rain has been extreme lately...very sudden and lots of it!
Another great video! Would any of your engines be able to pull a loaded train with all three passenger cars plus brake can through the balloon loop do you think?!
Double headed probably! Maybe Ivy on a full charge. Thanks a lot!
I love seeing these videos, not just for the progress and such either, although that was superb. I love waqtching the train run and seeing all of the points of interest on the way - the signs, trees and gardens, the stations and sheds, cutting and so foth. If that weren't enough, there's the birdsong thoughout. What a wee slice of heaven you have made for yourself.
Thanks so much! I always liked those things about preserved railways so wanted a bit of that flavour on the Ivy Railway.
Charming as always!
Cheers Stan!
Nice new platform shelter ,and a must have brew shelf !! wood burner next ?😃
Thanks mate! I think the whole thing would go up!
Cool update as always.I'm loving the beverage shelf in the new shelter.
Thanks a lot!
