  • The stages of putting together a simple OO9 locomotive. The loco is running on my new OO9 layout 'Lynnbach'
One thing I forgot to mention is that on the finished loco I made a feature of the diagonal step in the print and made it look like damage to the paintwork from a minor collision
    The lamp is from Springside
The dog is from Model Railway Scenes and the driver is a HO figure. Not sure which manufacturer but possibly Noch or Preiser.
This freelance loco featured in the video uses a body shell from: www.ebay.co.uk/str/3dfactoryu...
They also do the same style of body for a Kato bogie chassis.

Hi Ian, I've just been reading through this month's Railway Modeller, I was really pleased to see Lynnbach featured in it. It's well deserved as it's a great piece of modelling. Both my grandson and I like your layout, and he's going to be really pleased when I show him it in the magazin. I think it will inspire him as he plans his own 009 layout. Well done... Cheers James 🙂👍

One can use guitar strings for a lot of things beside playing them 😀😀

You can indeed! Nice to re-purpose stuff.

That really does look great. You've done a great job with it. It's certainly got me thinking, I've never built any loco kits as I'm not sure if I'd be able to do a decent enough job. However, maybe a 3D printed body would be the way to go. When my grandson builds his 009 layout, he will need something to run on it, and this seems like a cheaper option than ready to run. Plus, I've probably got a better chance of it looking something like, although some of my previous painting attempts haven't turned out so good. Anyway, I really like how you've finished it......cheers James 🙂👍

Thanks James! A really excellent running loco can be put together for as little as 30 odd quid. It really is the way to go and is a fun thing to do. Painting is simple enough if you use spray paints or thinned acrylics and nice brushes. Another good thing about narrow gauge is that you don't need fancy decals.

@Elvinley I'll have to have a look into it. It does sound like it's something I could have a go at. It would certainly be good to be able to add a few locos at a reasonable price. Have you any suggestions for a 3D print that is relatively easy to fit a motor straight into without too much messing about. Something really easy to start with 🙂👍

@Elvinley thank you, I'll have a look. I'm new to all this making locos malarkey, but I feel like I need to have a go. If I can start off with something simple, and if I can make a reasonable job of it. Who knows, my grandson might want to have a go as well 🙂👍
