  • With summer almost here, but hampered by ridiculous amounts of rain and other stuff, the railway hasn't been very active. Most time has been spent cutting back weeds and building a new platform. Work has started on a little shelter. Some nice running footage through the tunnel and the rest of the railway. The greenery is looking lovely and lots of flowers have appeared along the line.

    Looking really, really good. Love the new platform and seat. I love the low down shots coming into "Home Yard". For some reason, I get a real L&B vibe

    Thanks for the update - it should inspire us to get on with our own maintenance, if it ever stops raining here.

    It's amazing It's a real railway with cuttings and everything and it's eighth and a quarter inch guage

    • @Elvinley
      @Elvinley  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you! It's just seven and a quarter believe it or not. Makes a massive difference from 5" gauge.

    It's hard to find good seat testers these days-- you just have to tough it out and do it yourself. Great update!

    Yeah, the weather has been diabolical even here in the 'drought stricken' SE. The lawn is still completely green which is quite unusual for early May. Good for the moss in your cuttings, though.
    I hope the new station has room to rack up a keg so that Keith or Sarah can pour you a pint every time you pass through. Hmm ... every forth or fifth time, perhaps.
    Is the turntable exactly as you want it?
    Keep us updated on this enchanting railway. Cheers 👍

      Thanks Dave! That sounds like a sterling plan about the barrel! The turntable is really mainly just a storage siding at present. Ideally I'd need another driving car so the loco can turn and be put on the other end of the train, or I would need to get rid of the tyred wheels and lay a steel rail and have steel wheels and the weight difference between loco and tender wouldn't matter. Things to think about for the future! Still glad I did it as it is handy for other things.

    0:44. At some point, are you going to extend the tracks further along the roadway?

    • @Elvinley
      @Elvinley  Місяць тому

      I can't because it is a public road!

    Wow, I have never seen the Round about on the upper rails. Is your home on the upper roadway or below on the lower roadway? If upper, it seems like you have room for an upper railway line? I'm trying to convince my friend with 150 acers to put in a rail road. Love seeing what you are up to!

      Thanks! I do have my 5" gauge at the top which needs a lot of renovation.

    Hi, what rail are you using? I'm soon to be buying some for my own railway which I intend to be building over this summer but I'm not sure which kind is suitable. Do you have any recommendations?

    • @Elvinley
      @Elvinley  Місяць тому +1

      I just use the lighter gauge ally stuff with plenty of sleepers. I think it is 16mm deep. The tougher the track, the more stable it will be but also more costly and harder to bend if steel is used. Leave plenty of room for expansion, especially with ally track. Easiest way is to have a few curved sections.

    • @pannier1366
      @pannier1366 Місяць тому

      @Elvinley thank you very much. Upon consideration from members of my local model engineers group I believe that regular steel bar stock welded another underneath to act as a joint between rails, then drilled into a wooden sleeper is both suitable for the conditions and also cost effective. However for the permanent section of the railway I may use your suggested rail. Thank you.
