- Bachmann Farish DCC sound Next 18 N gauge (N Scale) in a shunting session. I don't take any credit for this project; I just did a similar but simpler install based on a video tutorial. The stay alive conversion was absolutely not my idea but was inspired by the amazing work of This Way Works:

Locos the size of thumbs... the definition of 'fiddly.' Nice one!
At least it isn't T gauge!
I have never heard of "stay alive" and I will research it. But I certainly do like the concept especially when going over points can cause a bit of an unwelcome jitter. Also to be able to lift the loco off the rails in order to clean wheels would be a great idea.
Yes it is a very welcome bit of technology!
Perhaps having a slight down grade into the goods yard makes for smoother switching. when shoving a lot of cars. Amazing stay alive. Fights dirt, contacts and any slight bumps in the track.
Yeah it's well worth installing.
Another ghreat video Ian proper job on those stay alives !
Thanks mate! Yeah they are a game changer for small locos.
Fantastic demonstration and you should take huge credit in actually being able to fit the stay alive even though Rich may have been the first. Hopefully one day all N gauge will have stay alive built in one day, even a five second duration would overcome most stalling issues. Cheers
I definitely hope so too! Accurascale and Sutton Loco Works have been great with their diesels in OO so I hope Farish follow in their footsteps. The 08 really needs it next time around. Thanks for your kind comments!
Fantastic video. Can I ask which size stay alive was used please? There’s 4 different ones that come up. Can’t wait to have a go myself
Thanks a lot. It was a lais one that had the four capacitors in a square. The video I linked to has more info than mine. Well worth watching.
Im so glad my video was of some help. Did you use the same stay alive as in my one? Its sounds like you got a good one for it to last that long 👍 sometimes they can vary in stay alive time, longer is better really 👍, subbed
Thanks Rich! I did indeed use the same one by Lais. The PCB is by them as well. No way was I going to succeed in soldering to the original socket board, though I did try. Not sure how you did what you did - I admire your work!
@@Elvinley Thank you Ian, you've done an ace job with your 08 and your layout looks fantastic, Class 14 next maybe for the stay alive treatment? 😁
@@ThisWayWorksTWW Thanks so much Rich! I only have the old school 14s at present.
@@Elvinley they've got a sound version out now havent they of the 14? Amazing stuff really how they can fit it all in the tiny spaces. 👍
@@ThisWayWorksTWW They have! I would love one but it's pricey!
