Приєднався 11 січ 2022
Hello and welcome!
Just another bloke who loves cars that’s decided to jump in front of the camera and document my builds. I build cars for the average bloke. Because like a lot of you. I don’t have tens of thousands of dollars thats why I do everything myself.
Been building cars for the better part of ten years and learnt a thing or two along the way. I’ll try my hand at everything and everything from welding and panel beating to mechanical. Nothing scares me too much these days when it comes to cars.
Hopefully you can take something away from the videos
Enjoy, Jake.

Переглядів 2,4 тис.6 місяців тому
In this video we go through what's needed to do to successfully remove a roof skin on the trusty old H series Holden Ute, these a notorious for rusting in the roof, so finding one with minimal to no rust is like finding a needle in a hay stack. The roof skin removed in this video will be put away in dry storage for a project down the track.

Using ford xf wiper in normal location will work.
Jake I owned several VK’s, mostly wagons in the late 80’s onwards. Your revival video of this VK wagon blows me away. Make me wish I still had mine. The module above the EST / EFI unit is the electric antenna and also the rear demistor / tailgate wiper module. Had a really hard time with Varajet II carburettors on all. Watch for perished vent lines on the tank filler neck - symptom is petrol will flow out on your feet when you fill. My EFI Berlina sedan was great. Well done on this mate, if I think of anything useful to share about my VK’s I’ll let you know. Wouldn’t mind seeing it in person.
15:00 mark. If you’ve ever been in this position. Absolute classic
Had me hooked the whole video, keen to see more 🤙
I still remember the '1985 Comes Alive' ads on TV when these were new, fk i'm old 😂😂
It must be very weird to see something you remember coming out new now being dragged out of paddocks.
Can't fix stupid
There was a 173 Blue came out in WB VC VH
F word is a cxxx of a word
Loving the VK vids 👌
Cheers Trev 👍🏻
Yeh that can be bought back to like brand new garrantee
You’re right it can be. It only needs to be put on a chassis straightener, have the front half of the rail replaced, front floor replaced on passenger side, inner and outer sill replaced. And then deal with all the rust. Will I fix it? No
@@V8JakeC be awsome to se the videos as you go se it bought back to life i used to have vk they were good cars
hope sponsor , how DM ?
New subscriber here from across the ditch my first car was a vk got a mean soft spot for the vk as a youngin in the late eighties I acquired mine done all the unnecessary mods lol watching you work on this one takes me back but over here you need like a kazillion doll hairs to purchase one in rough shape keep up the good work can't wait to see the final result
I can see why they have a following. They have grown on me since I’ve started working on them. I follow a restorer from NZ so I see a lot of what you guys have to deal with price and rust wise, It really is insane.
I think you'll find that's the wrong engine for the VK they came out with the black 3.3 202. Blue engines Manly come out in the VH
Please tell me where I said that either engine was from a vk so I can remove that segment from the video.
FFS. Seemed like. Good idea at the time.
I saw this on market place and was going to buy it as a parts car for my Berlina.
It’s back on marketplace too
Great video mate! These old cars always throw a decent surprise and a good education for viewers to take on board. I remember driving a 5.0 VK Berlina as a new car, man I was in love! Keep the videos up, cheers.
Cheers mate I appreciate it, Just trying to get it done as time permits.
Crank is fully counterweighted so it's from a blue or black 202, VC onward. Weird about the engine number. Points distributor is not original.
There you go learn something new everyday. The casting being ground off the side of the block and the engine number are definitely something. Even stranger that under all the blue paint it’s red. Distributor was one I had lying around. There was a vk est distributor that came with the car. So it was easier to fire on the ground with the points.
That sensor at 4:43 is actually an engine speed sensor for Carb'd VK's, it sits on top of the trans bellhousing and butted upto the back of the engine.
Cheers I figured it was a sensor for something. I knew it went into the trans as when I pulled it out I saw the hole at the top. Thank you for verifying what it is 👍🏻
G'day Fella!! 😊
Retired mechanic says 500 .00 what we're you thinking .?NO MOTOR YOUR looking at a old chev motor you should looked for some sort of old truck. Sorry I don't see your dream .I whish you luck .
The Aussie huntsman spider. Can grow as big as dinner plates. Completely silent in operation and will sneak up on you while working under the dashboard. Harmless but will still turn a 120 kilo Aussie into a quivering child like mess😂
You get quite accustomed to them when you do what I do
Ever used a Needle scaler? On this pitted rust areas? If so I guess they no good, I know they are noisy
I haven’t personally used one, but I have seen others use them. Unfortunately one is not too high on the priority list for me for tools. I get by with the method that I use. But in a perfect world it’d be nice to have one.
I seen full bore brand one today at Bunnings $102, might get one and give it a try
Well Damn it, I was looking forward to you saving that one. Hopefully the Silver one has a better chance. Cheers.
It was a bit disheartening, it’s always good to put another back on the road. But in this one’s case it’s not going to happen. On the plus I can rob it for parts for the silver one.
Like the custom graphics on the bonnet 😂
I’m very mature for my age
Gotta love any video with Guttermouth
I guess the weight gain wasn't an issue.. left side could've been a direct shot into turbo flange.. u going to brace it back to the block to reduce vibration out there.. plumb it up n give it a whizz..👍
Loose unit fabrication lol
Legend!!! Getting it done, having a laugh. Really enjoyed it Jake
Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏻
Good job
Cheers
The common get around for the hand brake to leaf spring interference is a 2 inch lowering block. Doesn't help much if you're already riding low, but is the easiest fix if the ass of your ute is riding high anyway.
It is. Unfortunately my leaves have been reset and are parallel so lowering it more isn’t an option for me.
Seems legit to me.... Nothing to see here, move along. Fing overloading circuit.... Fark...
Bloody great work mate
Cheers mate, appreciate it.
Why use S80 S40 pipe would have been fine mate
It is schedule 40
Nice job in the end (which is all that really counts) 👍 For a future note when welding, an even hiss to crackle ratio is easiest way to tune your welder by ear
I wondered if anyone would pick it up, finding a happy medium with it getting a good weld and not shutting the Clipsal of every 3 seconds was quite difficult.
Ha ha! Bloody enjoyable mate, cheers for the laughs & great video.
Cheers mate appreciate it
Asking out of ignorance: would driving the turbo off only one bank not have worked?
I doubt it would work
I love your videos mate. Keep up the great work 💪
Cheers mate appreciate it
Why does the left exhaust do a big loop to the turbo instead of going straight to it?
To make driver and passenger exhaust more even in length instead of having a really long one one side and a really short one the other side. It makes it distribute exhaust gases more evenly, And it looks better than having it go straight to it.
Wow schedule 10 pipe for exhaust! Seems a bit heavy. Any reason why you didn't use tube instead? Not being critical, just curious. Nice work.
Lots of reasons why I used it. I’m poor so couldn’t do it in 304, and I can’t tig. It’s strong, resilient, retains heat well and for an amateur welding like me it’s fairly user friendly.
Good work, buddy😊
Cheers Paul 👍🏻
We've all been there I've had a Feck me it swivels moment😂😂 nice workaround but with the flex joint.
Long days and long nights the brain gets away from you aha
Awesome pipe work mate
Cheers I’m happy with it for my first go
Hahaha, just got to you realising it’s in a v band and can swivel 😂. I was just thinking can’t it swivel to suit, then next thing you realised. It’s something I would do😂😂
It happens to the best of us 😅
Bloody well done Jake mean set up for a 308 bring it on again , cheers , shaneo, Nelson, NZ, 👍🍺
Cheers Shaneo 👍🏻
It probably needs a flex joint between banks mate. Expansion and contraction. Also probably should watch whole video before commenting. Good to know I was spot on though 😅
Ahah your all good mate 👍🏻
10:17 been there
Same
Looks good mate. Made me laugh a few times. The wagon looks nice too. What does that need to be finished?
Lots of small jobs just to make sure it’s a ok for the road. There’ll be a video on it no doubt 👍🏻
Good job champ
Awesome video as always Jake, you’re inspiring me to get back into my HX ute build. Good stuff buddy
Cheers mate Im glad im inspiring someone out there 👍🏻
