Jake I owned several VK’s, mostly wagons in the late 80’s onwards. Your revival video of this VK wagon blows me away. Make me wish I still had mine. The module above the EST / EFI unit is the electric antenna and also the rear demistor / tailgate wiper module. Had a really hard time with Varajet II carburettors on all. Watch for perished vent lines on the tank filler neck - symptom is petrol will flow out on your feet when you fill. My EFI Berlina sedan was great. Well done on this mate, if I think of anything useful to share about my VK’s I’ll let you know. Wouldn’t mind seeing it in person.
Appreciate the paint code for the bumpers I’m also tidying up a very original VK Berlina and the chrome on my side trims have deteriorated I think I will do what you have done with yours but I’ll also paint mine to match the bumpers. Thanks for the great vid and inspiration!
I got asked so many times why I wasn’t painting the side moulds the same colour. I chased up a lot of photos of original cars and they were all raw. Personal preference at the end of the day. They would look nice though painted the same colour as the bumpers.
Yep you are right they are definitely raw from factory,just looking through my VK bible there are 3 different colours for the bumpers depending on the base colour of the car itself.
For VK SL, exec & Berlina there’s 2 bumper colours that depend on the main paint colour. Cool grey, or warm grey. Warm grey is quite dark. Cool grey is lighter, but not as light as silver. Cool grey can often look like the raw plastic. Bumper colour codes start with a 4, because the paint type is different. The 3rd colour is silver, used on certain colours of VK Calais.
@@V8JakeCthey were only raw on the lower spec ‘85 models with cool grey bumpers as a cost cutting measure. Painted on all others - especially those with warm grey bumpers.
Nothing wrong with water based degreaser for cleaning carpets. Commercial based upholstery and carpet cleaning products are water based degreaser, with silicone added as deformer to avoided foaming insider the carpet extraction machine and generally they will add a fragrance. On really dirty seats, we will Spey them with degreaser, wash with the pressure cleaner, then leave in the sun to dry. As they dry, you will find dirt will rise to the surface and this can be easily cleaned up with a quick run over with the extraction machine or in a DYI application, spray with degreaser and vacuum or wipe with a damp cloth or chamois.
Iv seen people use like a spray on textured underbody deadener like a tetra Schultz over the trim pieces to give a textured finish when loosing the texture to sanding then top coat with the trim colour

Bumper coat in a rattle can works and simple to use
Its lacquer it can’t get much simple then that. More cost effective too if you have a gun and compressor.
