Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Johnny Marks (1958) Arr. Alan Dale
Most people don't know that Johnny Marks also wrote "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "A Holly Jolly Christmas". Brenda Lee recorded Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree in 1958 and it became a hit song. By the song's 50th anniversary in 2008, Lee's original version had sold over 15 million copies around the world.
Another thing that most people don't know is that Brenda Lee recorded the song when she was only 12 or 13 years old, even though her voice sounds like an adult. In a 2019 interview Lee recalled "I was only 12 and I had not had a lot of success in records, but for some reason he heard me and wanted me to do it. And I did."

The North Pole Rag - Samuel J. Stokes (1909)
Переглядів 4,4 тис.2 години тому
The 2nd and 3rd part of this rag are my favorite. I decided to play this on my real piano even though it buzzes. I accidentally said that J. S. Stokes wrote this song but actually it was written by Samuel J. Stokes. There are two North Pole rags, both written in 1909 to celebrate the explorers who attempted to reach the North Pole. I like this one better and that is why I chose to play it. The ...
Winter Wonderland - Felix Bernard and Richard Bernhard Smith (1934) Arr. Jonny May
Переглядів 7 тис.4 години тому
I am very sorry that this video does not sound so nice because I am playing on my electric piano because the sound board on my piano is cracked and my subscriber Jeremy Borum is coming on Friday to fix it. You probably have to turn up the volume to hear it properly. Maybe I will make another recording of it when my piano is fixed because it sounds much better on my real piano. I hope that you s...
Jingle Bells - James Lord Pierpont (1857) Arr. Johnny Hodges
Переглядів 11 тис.7 годин тому
James Pierpont originally published the song we now know as Jingle Bells under the title "The One Horse Open Sleigh" in September 1857. In 1859 it was republished as "Jingle Bells; or, The One Horse Open Sleigh". Even though it has no connection to Christmas in the lyrics, by the 1860s and 1870s it had become associated with the Christmas season. The content on this channel and in this video is...
Do You Hear What I Hear? - Noël Regney and Gloria Shayne (1962) Arr. by Dale Jessee
Переглядів 6 тис.12 годин тому
This very popular Christmas song was written as a plea for peace during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was looking for an interesting piano version of it and I found Dale Jessee's arrangement. I hope you enjoy it and I recommend looking at his channel if you want to hear other interesting arrangements of Christmas songs right now. Here is his channel: youtube.com/@DaleJessee?si=vyAespiOQsFYJUfo Th...
Christmas Medley (Seven Songs) - Arranged by Alan Dale
Переглядів 9 тис.14 годин тому
This medley was arranged by a man named Alan Dale who made a video of it 17 years ago which can be found on UA-cam. As far as I know, nobody else has ever made a recording of it. I really like many of the songs that Alan Dale arranged. He used to play on a riverboat. Here is a list of the songs in this medley. I hope that you enjoy it. Sleigh Ride - Leroy Anderson (1948) Frosty the Snowman - Wa...
Dreaming - Amy Beach (1892)
Переглядів 3,5 тис.16 годин тому
"Dreaming" is the third part of Amy Beach's "Four Sketches." As I mentioned on my video "Fireflies", where I played the fourth part, in each section she used a line from a work of literature to describe the emotions of the piece. For this piece, she used a line from Victor Hugo: "You speak to me from the bottom of a dream." " I am interested to know if you think the line matches the feeling of ...
Reindeer Rag - Joseph Lamb (1915)
Переглядів 18 тис.21 годину тому
I think this is one of the best rags that Joseph Lamb wrote. I know it is not a traditional Christmas song but I think it is a good song to play at this time of year. One of my favorite parts is when my hands cross. The content on this channel and in this video is intended for a general audience. Carol of the Bells - Mykola Leontovych (1914)
Переглядів 14 тис.День тому
I learned this by watching David Hicken playing it. I am not sure if he created the arrangement but I think it is really nice. There are two other surprise songs inside of this one. Let me know if you can hear them and if you recognize them. Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych created this song based on traditional Ukrainian folk songs and chants. I hope you enjoy it. The content on this chann...
Nocturne No. 1 in E Flat Major - John Field (inventor of the nocturne)
Переглядів 4,8 тис.День тому
John Field was an Irish composer who was the first one to use the term "Nocturne". Although people today associate nocturnes most with Chopin, John Field is the one who originated the nocturne, and Chopin was very inspired by his piano technique and compositional style. As created by John Field, the "melodic nature of nocturnes deviated from the rigidity of previous compositional forms like the...
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town - Coots and Gillespie (1934) Arranged by Jonny May
Переглядів 16 тис.День тому
This is the first Christmas song of the season because it is Saint Nicholas day today. The words were written by Haven Gillespie and the music was written by J. Fred Coots. It was the biggest hit of both of their careers. I will play more Christmas songs the closer we get to Christmas. I am sorry about the rattling from the lamp shaking a little bit. I will fix it for the next video. The conten...
Back to Life - Charles Hunter (1905)
Переглядів 3,9 тис.14 днів тому
This feels like the most unusual rag I have played by Charles Hunter. It is quite strange the way he changed the key from G minor to D flat to F to B flat (with the G minor section repeating in the middle and the end. It is one of his last compositions and probably named Back to Life because he was feeling better after being sick for a long time. Unfortunately he did not live very long after pu...
My Pet - Zez Confrey (1918)
Переглядів 3,8 тис.14 днів тому
This is the 4th song by Zez Confrey that I have played. He composed over one hundred pieces and is considered the inventor of the "novelty rag." He arranged and performed a lot for the player piano and his harmonies were influenced by French Impressionist composers, which he combined with the syncopations of ragtime. My favorite section of this piece is the last one. You can tell me what your f...
Fireflies - Amy Beach (1892)
Переглядів 4,7 тис.14 днів тому
Amy Beach was an amazing American composer. She was able to sing forty songs accurately when she was only one year old, capable of improvising counter-melody by age two, and she taught herself to read at age three. At age four, she composed three waltzes for piano during one summer at her grandfather's farm in West Henniker, NH, despite the absence of a piano. Instead, she composed the pieces m...
Queen of Love Two-Step - Charles Hunter (1901)
Переглядів 4,5 тис.14 днів тому
I am trying to learn all of Charles Hunter's songs. This song used the D key that Jeremy Borum repaired for me a lot so it was really nice to be able to play it. This song made me feel really happy. I hope you like it. The content on this channel and in this video is intended for a general audience.
