Franz Liszt - Au lac de Wallenstadt (At Lake Wallenstadt)

- This is a part of Années de pèlinerage (Years of Pilgrimage), a set of 3 solo piano suites.
It is the 2nd section of the first suite (Première année: Suisse, or "First Year: Switzerland").
Lizt's mistress and traveling companion, Marie d'Agoult, recalled their time by Lake Wallenstadt and Liszt's composition, writing:
"The shores of the lake of Wallenstadt kept us for a long time. Franz wrote there for me a melancholy harmony, imitative of the sigh of the waves and the cadence of oars, which I have never been able to hear without weeping…"
Liszt prefaced each section of the suites with a literary passage, and his selection for this piece is from a poem by Lord Byron:
"Thy contrasted lake / With the wild world I dwell in is a thing / Which warns me, with its stillness, to forsake / Earth's troubled waters for a purer spring."
I really enjoyed learning about this because I love learning poetry and reciting it.

Leander, I am worried. From the professional point of view, this is not good playing and continuing playing like that is not going to bring progress. I am not sure a teacher would be able to change your ways.
But you do need a brutally honest feedback from them. You deserve to play better.
I hope that they can help me play better.
Why are you worried that they can not help me play better?
I will listen to what they tell me.
@@Leander-piano Try to take one simple piece and learn it until it is as beautiful as you can do. Don't start any new piece until the one you are learning is your best best best .
@@MishaSkripachOkay I will try that after this week
@@MishaSkripach I want to learn to be a pianist who plays every note the right way.
I am intrigued by how Leander performs a different piece of music daily without referencing a printed score. Which means he memorises each one. That in itself is remarkable. The accompanying notes are always well written and appear to suggest to be more advanced than one would expect from a boy of about ten years old. Whatever the back story, he is a charming, gifted and engaging young man to be proud of.
Thank you.
My parents help me upload the videos because I don't know how to do that part.
I choose which songs I want to learn and then some interesting things to write about the songs and they help me make sure that it is written clearly because I am still learning how to write clearly
@ Thank you for your response. I play my piano, and wish I could play with the same assuredness as you. You are able to remember music in a way that makes me envious, and I am sure many others also. And as long as it is not too stressful keep on up-loading the videos. I wish you every success.
Mr.LEANDER.....I love your selection today!!!
My dear Leander: I am sitting in my house watching the rain come down while your piano playing brings such peace to me. Keep up the good work!❤😊
@@RobertBolton-cf7qj I am glad it helped you feel peaceful.
Very well done young Sir. You are a gift to the world from God himself.
That was beautiful, Leander. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Thank you for always encouraging me.
Encore. Another great performance. Hope you feel better little man.
Thank you.
I am doing much better.
This is lovely! That left hand is having to stay quite busy
We are in the presents of greatness…if I practiced 24 hours a day it still would not compare to your brilliant performances…thank you Leander for touching our hearts & I hope you are feeling much better…God bless you🙏🏼
Thank you for saying that.
I think if you practiced you could get really good.
I hadn't heard this piece by Liszt before. I really love it, Leander! Thank you so much. So very beautiful.
@@cynthyb That makes me happy that you like it a lot and got to learn about it.
It makes me happy, too! @@Leander-piano
Listening to this before bedtime, Leander. Just beautiful.
I was going to say you are a young savant, but probably more a bit of a genious. Thanks for sharing your gifts with us Leander.
Very nice tune again Leander. I hadn’t heard of it before. It’s amazing how you can remember the different songs. ⭐️👍👋👋👋👋👋
beautiful, you can almost picture yourself at a lake having fun, good job
Fabulous as always Leander. Thank you 🙏🏻
Very impressive! Both your performance and the interesting description you presented about Liszt’s composition and Lord Byron’s influence. How wonderful to know you love poetry and that you recite poetry. Is there anything you can’t do? Keep well, love, God bless, Pat
Bravo!
Thank you very much
I am glad you liked it
Liszt is a favorite of mine and this piece sounds so much more contemporary than the era it was written…
Yes it is a very interesting and unusual piece.
Thanks, Leander, I started my day by listening to this and it is beautiful.
@@johannesbruwer4072 I am really glad that you think it is beautiful too.
Beautifully performed...as always. I love listening and watching you play.
Every song you play is a story, and that's what makes it magical ✨️
Great video!
Beautiful 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Good job Leander!
Thank you for starting my day out great!
Hi Leander! Again a nice performance of you - with you!! Very joyful - your playing creates happiness!! Go on!!! My best wishes to you!!!
A very nice piece! I have not known of this piece by List before now -- I like that you find some interesting and less-well known pieces, and that they are ones you enjoy.
Very nice and very beautiful 😍 🤩 Good Job! BRAVO 👏
You're a remarkable young man: this is clearly a technically challenging piece, and you're picking it up super fast. It's great that you're branching out from ragtime. For my money barring incident and accident you're going to become the best pianist in the world.
Your bass coordination is well practiced -- But your eyes are saying " Bonne nuit Doux Prince "❤
Yes because my face is still stuffy from being sick
@@Leander-piano So sorry to hear that, Angel ! -- Get Well Soon ❤❤❤
very beautiful
I stumbled onto your channel today quite by accident. I subscribed just a few measures in to Dill Pickle Rag! WOW! I’m an old music teacher, and to see you perform from memory, turning your sweet smile to the camera now and then - you really have a gift, young man! Don’t ever forget how much you love to play your piano - it’s clearly your happy place!
Thank you for telling me that and for encouraging me to keep playing.
I am glad that you like my channel.
@
You are most welcome young man! It’s my bedtime, and I’m going to listen to this piece again as I drift off to sleep. I hope you have sweet dreams and good sleeps tonight!
Heavenly. Thank you, Leander, for sharing this with us.
That's quite an accomplishment
It's nice your back with us nice tune leander.😊😊
Thankyou so much Leander you are a little Liberace the way you look off out the window and at the camera it is all so natural to you, , your playing appears fearless and with such ease a joy to hear an see .
So beautiful. Thank you, Leander
Bravo, our little virtuoso! I hope you are feeling all better now. I'm continuing to get better, but my vision hasn't come back just yet. I think it will begin to improve soon.
Good job
Do you have a photographic memory?
I don't think so but I am really good at remembering songs.
@ Yes, young man. You are. God has given you a gift.
Very pretty piece of music. You do such a good job playing the piano.
In a world full of troubles, you bring such joy.
Thank you.
@@timvanlandingham1927 Leander is a rare talent. He's a joyous performer and it is a pleasure to see his talent blossom.
What an unusual song where the left hand gives the impression of being the leading hand and (sometimes) the right hand occasionally joins in. It seems that this piece is one of the more difficult songs because you didn't look at the camera or outside as much. Very well performed, I enjoyed it a lot - listening to it a third time now 🙂
It might be worth positioning the recording equipment nearer the treble end of the keyboard (or in the middle) to see whether the balance is better.
👍🤩 j’aime ! 😍❤️
That's quite an accomplishmen
That was a beautiful piece of music and you played it so well.... I would love to know how you became so masterful at the piano.... God bless you and your family.... never quit.... Remember take some time off go outside and play😊
Thank you.
I will make sure to play outside every day.
I played piano a lot since I was really little so that is why I can play this way.
I will keep trying to get even better.
Well I can't help but be in awe.... Would love to know at what age you started playing. Honestly Leander I try to listen to you at least once a day...😊
Fantastic job !! 😊💙
Well done Leander! I’m sure you’re feeling a lot better, but you still don’t look 100%. Maybe take a break, you’ve worked so hard and well for a couple of months. I see you’ve sorted that buzz! 👏💥👏
Lovely!
Wonderful dear Leander 😊💖😇 !!! 👋
@@simone1827 Thank you for watching my videos in Germany.
I will still make the Chopin video for you
@Leander-piano I think that's very nice of you, Leander, but there's no rush ,only if your time allows it . Thank you for your beautiful channel, you make many subscribers very happy 😃 . By the way, I'm already looking forward to Christmas 🎄✨️🎅 , I like it when everything is so beautiful decorated, especially the many lights in the houses in the city . See you soon again , best wishes from me from Berlin 🤗💛🙃 !!!
Really great music and thanks for the information about the piece. Now I am curious how long it took you to learn this piece because it really looks quite challenging
Good performance !! I can see the raindrops on the lake, some dropped thru the leaves, its like a picture, but I think you most enjoyed playing rags. Am I correct?
I am glad you like it.
I like playing all kinds of music.
Maybe with rags I look the most happy but the other music is very important to me too and makes me feel other things.
🙂
Is this your first nighttime recording? Great job.
The Ragtime Dance by Scott Joplin was also at night
bach c major prelude please 🙏🙏
and fugue
Will someone PLEASE get this extraordinary boy access to a decent piano! Or at LEAST get this spinet piano tuned, regulated, and the broken note fixed......
Next week it is going to be worked on
@@Leander-piano That's great!
I like your Music and this was again amazing, but in this video you look absolutly unhappy, exhausted and tired. You should take a little brake and go out and play with your friends to charge new energy ...
I was sick this week and that is why I look that way.
For 3 days I could not play piano and I rested but now I wanted to play again.
Thank you for encouraging me to rest and play.
