I think this is one of the best rags that Joseph Lamb wrote. I know it is not a traditional Christmas song but I think it is a good song to play at this time of year. One of my favorite parts is when my hands cross.
This is a great one! I’m going to record this one for Christmas. Probably upload it as one of the later ones. Great to see you play it too! You’ve done a marvellous job once again. That hand cross part was interesting. Did you add that yourself or was it from someone’s arrangement?
What an incredibly talented young man. I’ve been watching these videos for a couple months and noticed he doesn’t use sheet music. I’m assuming he plays by ear? What an amazing gift!! Best wishes for this young man.
There you go again making me smile... I'm telling you that you are so amazing. When you looking at the camera and smile I could see the joy you experience when you're playing. You play so effortlessly I can hardly believe it. God bless you and thank you.
You make me so HAPPY because you are so happy as you play all of this wonderful music for us!! This piece was full of surprises - especially the crossing of your hands, which you played perfectly!! Thank you! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
When I watch you play, the rhythm makes me sweat and I can only enjoy it. But when I imagine how you can look into the camera and smile without making a mistake, I am always amazed. I always look forward to a new piece from you and thank you very much for your enthusiasm. You are simply brilliant.
What a awesome tune ,with you at the keys ,I'm sure many years of music 🎶 to come an im looking forward to all Thankyou Learnder 💙 in your last upload you were very clever in hiding 2 Christmas carols in the tune , please try it again some time that was incredible 😊
A guy came in and took the piano apart and repaired it and tuned it. There's a picture of him on the Community page. It sounds much better now, I think.
@@PiotrBarcz He did a great job. The adjoining key, csharp below middle C, still has a noticeable 'thunking' sound when played firmly. It is amazing that the piano could sound that different.
@@johnbrinkerhoff8792 Yeah it's also just the fact it's a console with a compressed action that can never actually play up to par so the fact it's this good it's a miracle.
Another amazing treat for us! I see you like hummingbirds, and in Oregon we have 2 verities that winter here. The others go south about mid September. Last summer I had 4 feeders out 12 birds. Do you know if any stay by you in the winter?? Love you God give talent and that you use it for us to enjoy. Chuck Kersten
That was fun! Crossed hands almost looked like you couldn't figure out what hand to use! Christmas is coming, so the Reindeer have to get ready, so they dance! I think you should be called "Piano Roll", because you play anything and you do it so well. We all love your playing and your smiles! Thanks for making us happy! ☺👏🌲 Jerry
@@vidguy007 That’s who I thought of when he crossed his hands - the scene where Freddie is laying on the floor and he reaches up and starts to play. Young Leander is as talented a pianist as Freddy was a singer!
What a great song! How on Earth do you find all these little known ragtime songs? You handled the hands crossover very well! Looking forward to more Christmas songs. My two favorites are O Holy Night and Lo' How a Rose Ere Blooming. You already performed Carol of the Bells which is my 3rd favorite. Keep smiling! ❤✨🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🎅🎹🎶🕊️
This is only the second rag by Joseph Lamb that I've yet heard (the other is Ragtime Nightingale) and I think his rags are second only to Joplin himself. As usual you played it beautifully, and the crossed hands were another nice piece of showmanship.
Marvelous rag, Leander. I love watching how much fun you have. Would you consider doing a video that shows your learning process? I learned to play the piano by ear, but never reached the level of complexity that you achieve. It would be fascinating to observe as you listen, watch and learn the pieces you perform. Best wishes!
Leander, if you're not using the sheet music desk on the piano I would pull the front panel off and leave it off. I can hear some really loud vibration of some sort, probably the music desk having a loose hinge or two. Doing this will also let more sound out of the piano instead of keeping it boxed in. It'll be a LOT more fun to play with the insides visible ;)
Wonderful Rag and well played. How do you learn new songs? Do you read music to learn them or play by ear? You have much talent. Thank you for sharing music with others.
I've never heard that song until now, and I love it! Excellent job, our real-life Elf on the Shelf. :) I see that your raven has flown away. Maybe he decided to go farther south for the winter? I'm glad the nutcracker is holding his spot so it will be available to him when he returns. Thank you for this nice, happy song today. I just read your comment, and it reminded me that I intended to mention the crossover. When I was taking lessons, I was never able to pull that off. I don't seem to have the coordination for it. I can only play very simple tunes anyway. If I remember correctly, even when crossed over, your left hand continues to play from the bass clef, and your right hand remains on the treble clef. Is that right?
You play rags so well... I've never heard this one, before. Good job! What do you like to do besides play piano? School, video games, sports, playing with friends? We'd all like to know a little bit more about you. 🤩
This one is awesome fun to hear and watch you play! I love how you bring out the syncopation against the LH octaves (0:22 - 0:25, 0:39 - 0:41, 0:49 - 0:51 etc.). The cross-hands came out nicely as well. This is one of the happiest pieces I've heard you play -- and it shows in the way you're playing it! Have you been able to work with a teacher yet? I'm seeing a bit of fatigue and tension in the RH towards the end -- something you may want to work out how to stay relaxed and loose in the arms, wrists and hands -- especially for these pieces where your hand is extended for many octaves;. Looking forward to what comes next! 🙂
Leander, how long have you been playing piano? You sound like someone much older who has been practicing for a lifetime. Do you have piano lessons? And do you read music at all or is this gift of yours just that….100% ‘gift’? I would love to hear a song that you have written yourself, if you have done that yet. You are just so special that I don’t even have words to describe how you make me feel when I hear you play! Also, is your whole family gifted with beautiful music? I wish you lived next door to me so that, in the warmer months, I could leave my windows open and hear you practicing. You are spreading a lot of happiness by sharing your videos online. Thank you!
Hello. Leander, I'm curious if you write the descriptions yourself or if you're receiving some help from maybe a parent or guardian? Also, I'm curious if you've had any formal training and can read music or if this is all by ear? As i watch your many videos, i like to try and understand the whole concept and presentation of your great video posts. I, too, play by ear so I'm very interested in the Leander "behind the scenes". Thanks!

What fun you do have on that lovely piano… whilst wearing an elf’s hat! Just perfect. 👏👍👏❤️
He reminds me of Joanne Castle (Lawrence Welk fame), the way he looks at the camera while playing.
Yes! He does! I love that grin he shares! He’s obviously a very happy young man!!

Thank you so much for playing a Joseph Lamb rag! He continued to compose rags long after they had fallen out of fashion. A true master of the form.
You play everything so expressively. It’s always a pleasure to see you enjoying yourself too.
