      Hi Alishia - we generally go in September as O’ahu is less crowded since kids are back in school and the weather isn’t as hot as it is in the middle of the summer. Hi Andrew - that's interesting to hear. Sushi rice is generally more expensive than typical Jasmine/Calrose/white rice and is usually an upcharge at many establishments since its generally from Japan. We also didn't get any vinegar flavor from it when we ate it. Thanks for sharing this info and stopping by the channel.

    • @michellejosefoodandtravel
      @michellejosefoodandtravel 12 днів тому

      Hi Mo - sorry for the late response. Unfortunately since it is an auction the prices vary from day to day based on a number of factors such as how many boats brought in fish, what kind of fish was caught, and the quantity of the type of fish. Also the quality of each individual fish differs even if it's the same type of fish. We also didn't hear much of the auction portion itself as we had headphones on to hear our tour guide as he was providing information during the tour about the fishing industry in Hawai'i. We've heard prices can typically range from $9 - $25/lb again based on the type of fish (Big Eye Tuna, Mahi-Mahi, striped Marlin, opakapaka, ono, swordfish, and so on). You should go check it out for yourself if you have the opportunity and are in Hawai'i!!

    Chorizo spices are regional, so European spices might be a bit different to Texas, but usually you look at smoked Paprika, salt, ground chilli (I use Ancho), garlic powder, dried oregano and ground cumin. Onion powder is also common. Food looks awesome. Mum used to love tripe (it used to be quite big in Europe), but I always hated the texture.

    • @michellejosefoodandtravel
      @michellejosefoodandtravel Місяць тому

      Hi Richard! We looked it up...pretty similar spices overall. Are you planning to experiment and make some? If so let us know how it turns out. Tripe is definitely not for everyone but when made right...it's really good. It's also used in a few Filipino dishes as well such as Goto (Filipino version of congee/rice porridge) and Kare-Kare (peanut butter stew with oxtails and other vegetables). As always thank you for your continued support!! Hope all is well on the other side of the pond!!

    OMG those tortillas look pillowy soft llike the tortillas my co-worker snuck for me from HEB in San Antonio. He is Mexican and also taught me how to make carne guisada and gave me a spice mix to make it. I love all of that stuff! I can't do menudo though due to the tripe, but love pozole. And what a trio! I love bbq, kim chi and chili! And burgers, wings and more tacos. I'd leave TX double the weight LOL Mahalo for showing me all the great joints in Austin. You guys are so lucky with all those food choices.

      Hi Misty! Did you know that HEB makes butter tortillas now? They are on another level!! Will add it to our list of omiyage to bring. Carne guisada is my favorite (Michelle's) and Jose's mom makes it so well. Trip is definitely not for everyone, but we enjoy it when its cooked well of course. My mom (Michelle) uses it in a few Filipino dishes too such as Goto (a Filipino version of congee that has a ginger-based broth garnished with fried garlic, green onions, and calamansi juice) and Kare-Kare (Filipino stew made with oxtail, eggplant, green beans, bok choy, and peanut butter). Honestly neither of us have tried pozole but it's on our never-ending list. The way you feel about leaving Texas double the weight is EXACTLY what happens to us when we visit Hawai'i every time!! We think you need to make a trip to Texas the next mainland trip you plan!! Mahalo for your continued support Misty and CONGRATS on over 20K!! Keep going!!

    Born and raised I’ve been here my whole life if you’re gonna order an Italian beef dry just go get something else to eat. You should ask the employee that works there what’s the best way what’s the most popular?

    • @michellejosefoodandtravel
      @michellejosefoodandtravel Місяць тому

      Hi Katie Jo! Honestly, we wanted to get the Italian beef dipped/juicy, but it takes quite a bit of time to get all the necessary B-roll and to film that we didn't want the sandwich to fall completely apart which is why we ordered it dry. Since the beef soaks in the gravy, by the time they served it, a good portion of the gravy soaked into the roll which gave it that amazing flavor. We'll definitely be back to Johnnie's and will get it dipped/juicy next time since we won't be filming it and can truly savor and enjoy it right away. When we travel to eat at places, we do quite a bit of research ahead of time to have a better idea of what to order and how to order, but again filming is a lengthy process so sometime we have to adjust a little. Thank you for sharing your experiences and again for stopping by showing your love for the Windy City!

    Pequod is the name of the ship in the movie Moby Dick I’m surprised nobody pronounced the name of it correct when you were there oh well next time you’re there sounds like you’ll go back. It is delicious pizza but keep in mind Most Chicagoans have deep dish pizza like on a special occasion. It’s not like a weekly thing. It’s too much it’s too heavy. It’s too thick. It’s great for people visiting the city, but we like thin crust delicious pizza just like everybody else. If you ever wanna try it, one of my favorite thin crust pizza is at Barnaby’s in Northbrook ,IL 😊 🍕

    • @michellejosefoodandtravel
      @michellejosefoodandtravel Місяць тому

      Hi Katie Jo! Apologies for the late response. Honestly from the moment we walked into the restaurant till the moment we left, no one ever said the name of the restaurant to us nor did we hear them pronounce it to any groups near us. If we had heard it, we would've done our best to adjust and pronounce it correctly, but now we know. I (Michelle) lived in Chicago in my early childhood and we definitely saved deep dish pizzas for special occasion. My family primarily ate from Lou Malnati's and Giordano's. From time to time we've gotten Lou Malnati's shipped to us down here in Texas and have visited the Giordano's in Vegas when it opened just to get our fix. Thank you for the recommendation for the thin crust pizza. We'll definitely add Barnaby's to our list!! Thank you again for stopping in and sharing your Chicago love with us!

    Aloha Michelle & Jose! Finally catching up on YT after my vacation. Wow that pizza looked so good! I love a good Chicago pie. One slice is a meal for me. Love all that cheese! Can't go wrong with Chicago dogs. I love the pickle in it. I love crunchy shoestring fries but don't mind crinkle cut if it's fried well done. I've always heard of the popcorn from Chicago and it looks interesting. I've never had an Italian beef sandwich. Looks amazing and I think I'd love something with all that au jus and giardiniera! I saw the weather forecast and thought of you guys. Praying you stay safe and dry. 🤙🙏
