I got the Garmin 530 and I had never issues with it also not with updates. I have it since two years now and it works perfectly.

So all I hear is 2 guys making up excuses as to why their gamin units keep breaking on them. I've been using the same Wahoo Element Bolt for 6 flawless years.

I had multiple Garmin computers and all of them had various bugs and eventually issues requiring warranty service. Eventually I saw said I'd never use one again, bought a Wahoo and it's been rock solid for years. No Garmin again, ever.

Forgive me ignorance, but why I would want to record the rear part? I can see two scenarios: 1. for fun, if i go with a team 2. for the court, if i got hit? what else?

Great video. I’ve been riding tubeless 3 yrs on the road 5000 miles/yr. Still get punctures, no down time. Bad road debris down in Florida from construction. Added liners two years ago. Slashed a tire that I couldn’t plug. Road home 20 miles no air, on the air liners with no rim damage. Riding low pressures, comfortable. Didn’t have any rim damage with no air. Couldn’t be happier. There’s a learning curve, but so worth it. I use vittoria air liners on my road bike and their gravel version on gravel

I have the non camera version now. will the camera version show the cars on my garmin 1030 headset as a video or will it be same as my current garmin with dots showing on my 1030 ?? the camera version would be worth it if u could see cars on my garmin -thx

You are concerned about "wear and tear" of the SD card connector? SD cards and their connectors are designed for hundreds, if not thousands, of insertions and extractions. You will not wear out the connector, you'll wear out the gold plated pads on the card first, just go easy and don't gorilla it.

It's dumb to write dialog that is specific to RHD countries. Instead of saying "cyclists look over their left shoulder"... just say they look over their shoulder. Instead of saying "cyclists move to the right side of the road"... just say they move to the side of the road. Simple and concise yet broader applicability.

Current pricing is discounted by $50 (which tells me an updated version is soon to be released). That cost compares favorably with the latest Cycliq camera, which only includes a (inadequate?) light, no radar.

Programming indoor erg workouts using Garmin SW only is a nightmare. Garmin connects unreliably to phone app. Garmin doesn't provide Edge repacement parts (like display) so I need to resort to no-name part. Will see wether it works. Lots of improvement possible.

I’ve been debating on whether get it or not and you guys definitely make me set up my mind. I have the RT515 and I’m quite happy with it. It provides and does the job as it suppose to. All the issues you guys pointed out about the sd card and quality really got my thinking if it is worth to pay over 4 hundred for it thanks guys

The term “gamechanger” gets bandied around a lot, but I think the Varia lives up to it. Combined with a mirror, it’s excellent - the Varia alerts you to an approaching vehicle, and the mirror tells you what it is (eg, 18-wheeler vs motorcycle) and - more importantly - if it’s giving you room.

What kind of camera would you recommend for the front view to pair with this one?

Just came across the video. I get so frustrated trying to sync my Garmin. I did a 75 day bikepacking trip last summer and I swear it was a different process to try and get them to sync to my phone/strava each day. Restart the Garmin, the Phone, Bluetooth etc. Never could figure out how to actually do it consistently. I just bought a new bike from a guy who gave up cycling. He included a cheap Bryton GPS and the damn thing syncs every time. I probably won’t be buying another Garmin when it comes time for an actual upgrade. Time will tell. Maybe Garmin can do an update that actually makes their device work properly.

Great comparison! Had a 500 edge for a long time, 8 years, then i bought a 820, and man that unit sucks, connectivity issues, battery lasts about 2.5 hours now, and my big drawback is i have the memory of a goldfish. Moved to another city for study and I do rides with locals, but man all those turns are impossible to remember for me. So I use routes a lot, just to repeat rides. 820 does routes okay, but the battery doesn't cut it for me, 6-10 hours rides following routes is a necessity for me. I just bought a 1030 and I really hope battery life will be enough to stop carrying the usb powerbank I have attached to the handlebar. Will we ever see a unit as good as a middle tier phone? Will we ever get an app that gives all garmin information on the fly so it can be our new gps unit?

Excellent review, and answer all my questions. Others reviews were out weighting the pros on the 715 (heavy, bigger etc.). But how good it is to know a car is coming at you, hitting you or killing you, without knowing who did it, and more important (evidence of the hit and run).
