Now when I true up the hole with my bori...

Hello I have a Gustav Becker p42 movement with same issue. Could I send my lifter to you for repair? Contact info?
Simply said - I am an amateur repairing/saving movements [thus old clocks] for friends, myself and family. I'm 76 years old and eyesight and the shakes makes this to have become quite a chore! This video and your efforts and true expertise, and to say the least videoing and sharing - really saved my ass! I was SO struggling with timing the 4-4 wheel with the 11 o'clock and the gathering and the self adjusting using the hidden grove for the 3/4 hour short drop lever's tooth. I could go on and on ( I almost figured out it by myself! ) but honestly, I hope you know how much you've helped. THANK YOU!.
An excellent technique. Thank you.
My clock chimes 1/2 hour late at the 6 for the time and chimes once for the time at the 12?
Many movements the winding barrols can be removed without taking the movement all apart.
If the movement needs full disassembly, it's best to get another movement.
Very easy to listen to your instructions
How do you wind up the weights after they lowered ?
Thank you for sharing Chris! Yes, indeed the zip tie was a perfect tip...
Beginner here. Thank you for this info.
How will I know the drill tip has found the true center of the original hole in the plate? And that I'm not off to one side? Thanks in advance.
On the hour chime when I put the weight on it strikes continuously is it a problem with the spring or is it with the cam tia
ThanX! good info and I need it!
Outstanding video! A friend asked me to see if I could repair his clock (Regula 34 movement). With your detailed video, I was able to diagnostic issue as a missing warning pin. Now the fun begins!
Many thanks for this. I was wondering whether to pay to have my clock ‘repaired’, now I won’t have to.
Thanks, your video was helpful for me to determine the proper bends and placements in wires (some missing) on a similar clock I'm working on -- only difference is mine has the additional moving waterwheel on the side. A suggestion (probably too late!) is to adjust the wire for the wood-chopper motion so the axe actually touches the "wood" which visually matches the thudding sound more accurately. Have been getting two other cuckoo clocks ready for a client to give to his family for Christmas gifts this week, so the arduous cleaning process has been top of mind for me. Am sure it's not the first time you've heard this, but may I suggest investing in an ultrasonic cleaner -- you can often find good used ones for fairly cheap -- which makes the cleaning process MUCH easier and more thorough. I've never regretted buying the two I now own, although I did get them at very reasonable cost. No more than 5-6 minutes with ultrasonic, though, as it can start pitting brass and even punch holes in thin metal! Also, for cleaning solution I use household Sudsy Ammonia (which I dilute 1:4 with warm distilled water) and an added drop or two of grease-dissolving dish washing liquid for especially grimy movements. This solution is way cheaper than the commercial clock-cleaning stuff, and seems to work just as well. Plus you can easily get it in a pinch at most any grocery store. It was recommended to me by my experienced clock repair tutor and mentor. Just resist buying very large quantities of it when it goes on sale or you may be suspected of using it for nefarious (explosive) purposes... don't ask me how I know! Same solution can be used on all the plastic components of a cuckoo clock. Two to three minutes via ultrasonic, without any effort or tedious scrubbing with Q-tips, will magically lift the grime right off and get things looking brand new. I was curious to see the condition of your cuckoo bird before-and-after... and it still looked dirty to me! My birds were even dirtier than yours (with a greasy yellow coating) yet came out cleaner -- especially in areas a Q-tip can't reach like the pivot holes, internal cavities and small beak. One of them even turned out to be a light robin's egg blue colour which was an unexpected pleasant surprise! Anyway, I enjoy your videos and appreciate your contributions of experience and knowledge to the clock maker's community, which unfortunately is dwindling by the year as the old guys continue to pass away or give up the skills for health reasons. I feel very fortunate to have met an old-timer watchmaker locally where I live, willing to pass along his knowledge to me!
hi from Canada! I'm putting together a little enfield...thanks for the video. I have a garage full of car, house, motorcycle stuff what substitute oil can i use on the pivots?
I was waiting for you to center punch it near the wear area or pull a fine wire through the wear spot and bend over on both sides. Or as the guy below suggests, put plastic packaging in the wear spot. Thanks for your suggestion, I may need it. My only concern is how well your repair will retain oil.
One thing that can mess a person up is thinking that the lever arm going into the hole is what stops the music. It is not. The hole is more like a measuring point, indicating where the music should stop. It allows the entire lever piece to pivot, allowing the little arm with the rubber tube on it to engage the fly at the right time, stopping it and stopping the music.
Very ingenious, thank you so much for the tip !!
Im afraid my Herchede needs this done. The clock shop said could be 1200.00 for the repair. More than it originally cost Im sure.
Just stated this video . I’ll be interested to see if choice of bushings is addressed. Ok I watch and I must say you did a good job with very clear explanations.
I’m hoping you can help. I have been gifted a HL Hubbell grandfather clock. The piece that winds the main weight is broken. Looks like it snapped. Is that possible to repair?
Thank you Chris for providing this video! A picture is worth a thousand words but a video is worth a thousand pics! I was able to adjust my inherited Ridgeway grandfather clock’s chime as it was chiming one minute late. Now it’s chiming right on time. You rock!!
Nice, clear procedure sequence. The chime explanation for that stray hammer is exactly what I needed, and not intimidating at all. Thanks.
Nice...
I want to repair hermale clock barrel 3 teeth gone. Is there any possible to repair that barrel ? Plz inform...
Great informative video! I’ve watched what seems like dozens of these with the hope of being able to get my old cuckoo back up and running again and your video is the best. Loved being able to see the process of new bushings getting installed. I had mine apart to re-oil but didn’t have to courage to completely disassemble the movement to clean properly like you did. I think if I video the process I’d be able to at least go back and review if I get confused on something. I got mine to the point where it’ll continue to run only if I add another 10oz weight to the time chain weight ….lol….I’m sure that will ultimately create additional wear and tear. I suspect it’s just dirty yet though it was professionally cleaned and oiled 30 years ago….it ran just fine for many years afterwards. Thanks again for the informative video.
Your bracelet band😂😂😂
Replaced the movement in my grandfather clock and the chime was off. Thank you!
Hey Chris, Jeff here with The Clock and Watch Store here in Michigan, just wanted to say thank you! I normally stay in my lane with antique movements and the new stuff has always been a little bit of the unknown. The Hermle service manual is good for some but nothing works better for me than a "hands on visual tutorial" and setting up the 451 series movement was a breeze after seeing what happens to the hammers when a movement is properly aligned!
@@JeffBurnham-g6i awesome! Great to hear
There is no way I am taking it apart! My middle weight gets stuck, and the clock stops. It's only three years old. It's a Howard Miller my husband got for me for Christmas. I guess calling a clock repairman is better for me. I can't even imagine doing this. Thanks so much, but I'll have to pass. Good luck to the rest of you!!
Perfect.. have a mantle clock and the few minutes out was driving me mad.. will try! Many thanks, Chris
Awesome job Chris. I wish I saw this before I messed up the first number, but I still have a few to put back so thank you.
Saved my butt setting up a Janch pl-78..... Thanks
Hi Chris, I have a Verichron wind up wall clock that is about 35-40 years old. It chimes the wrong amount at each hour. I tried moving the hour hand to the proper time but the next hour it may be anything. sometimes it chimes 4 and the next hour it may chime 7 times. HELP! and thanks.
Presentation is nice. How can I get the set in India and what will be the price?
How might i adjust this so the music only plays hourly, when its currently playing (incorrectly) every 30 minutes?
Great video Chris! I have an 8day clock that all of a sudden started playing at the half hour. Can you please tell me how to fix it? I watched the music adjustment video which was quite informative! However, I need a bit more information to stop the half hour music from playing. Thanks! Rita
Excelente explicación estoy fascinado con ese tornito tengo uno casero de joyería pero quisiera un tornito sherline y hacer ese tipo de trabajo de relojería
Thanks!
OK??? It's around the post, though. How do you take the main wheel and spring out for cleaning and negotiate the post???
How to set my clock one hour back
Thank you so very much for making this video. UA-cam has hundreds of videos on lawn mowers and plumbing, but there are far fewer experts in mechanical clock repair (and even fewer willing to share their knowledge. I’ve had an 8 day Cuckoo in my pediatric dental office that I bought fifteen years ago. The little patients love it! Recently it began to stop and I assumed it was a staff member walking into the pendulum (which happens on occasion), but when I was the last one out on Saturday, and it was stopped Monday morning I knew it was something else. I made a tabletop jig so it could run from my home tabletop, and spent the last two hours frustrated. It did seem to be stopping close to the hour, actually just before. Not every hour, just some. After watching your video, and playing around with the music box, I realized it was far too difficult to actuate, because the pin was kind of stuck in the drop hole. This difficulty in actuating was most likely causing the clock to stop. I couldn’t figure out for the life of me why out of nowhere my music box would need to be repaired. I was ready to remove the music box portion from the clock and start making adjustments as shown in your video before bringing it to a pro. It was my “Hail Mary”, cause I love the challenge of repair, and had to give it a shot! Then on the fourth time through your video, it hit me…… That little plastic tube……I wonder if it was worn. Sure enough after breaking out magnifiers, I realized the end was worn down. I got out some tweezers and pulled it out about 1/8 of an inch. Now the song didn’t complete playing. Wow. Didn’t know that plastic tube had such an affect. So if you’re still reading, I pushed and pulled on that little tube, extending it about 1mm past where it was. Now the actuating lever on the music box depressed very easily, as the pin was now centered in the drop hole. I’m in the process of letting it run for a few hours, but it’s basically fixed- and completely thanks to you. So thank you so very much again for sharing your knowledge. It is because of your willingness to share that I was able to repair the clock myself so thank you so much again!
Thank you for all that. My clock is working now perfect 😊
Perfect
hi Chris. I think the bellows arm gets stuck. the one on the left looking at it from the rear. when it's time to chime it stays stationary. when I touch it with my screw driver it works as it should. it's not touching the other arm, just not working like it should.
Nice! The holder plate first and the soldering are great extra information.
Extraordinario. Me gustaría escucharlo en español. Muchísimas gracias
Hi again and thank you. I put a question on another video that your posted about a cracked plastic gear. This answers it. The question now remains if i can get a replacement gear or need a new complete music box...Please reply on this or the other question that i posted...Thank you.
