Is there a way to adjust how fast the music box plays the melody? I cleaned/dusted a clock without removing anything from the case, and now the music box is playing at roughly twice the speed that it was prior to the cleaning, even though the clock itself is working just fine and I have not touched nor changed anything (to mu knowledge). Thanks -

I have almost the exact same clock. My parents received it as a wedding gift in the early 1980s. The clock will run and strike for a while, then randomly stop working. I'm afraid that the small motor that runs the strike operation is going bad. Do you know if there are replacements for the motor available?

I recently bought a Schmekenbelcher cuckoo clock, manufactured in 1967. I oiled the gear pivots and it stopped working. I worked on it and now it's working fine - However, now the music box plays at roughly twice the speed it did previously. Is there a way to adjust the speed at which the music box plays? Thanks -

This is excellent. I'll be needing to do this on my grandparents' old Bentima, with a Perivale movement. The Westminster chime sequence is all incorrect. Will this video apply to mine too, taking into account the different design? Thank you.

Love this, love the way this works. Explaining everything nicely, thanks so much. Wondering on mine, as far as hours go, everything works well until the 9oclock strike. It repeats 8 oclock. Then for 10 it strikes 9oclock. This is the issue. After this for 11 oclock it works fine again, business as usual. Dont get why there is this issue on only these hours. Id love to know why if the explanation is easy enough or am i just screwed. It seems like it should be simple, but what do i know. lol Again this was, for me anyway, very fun to watch. The mechanics of these movements are wonderful. I like to watch mine, it is mesmerizing.

Just use a tapered reamer an clamp a strip of hardened tool steel at the extent of the wear, quicker, easier an more precice

I wouldn't get a screwdriver any where near my clocks! That's why there are guys like you. Thank goodness!!

Thank you, Chris, some years ago I had a 3 barrel chime clock and all its attachments Holus-bolus piled on my work table. So (without access to Chris's clock repair extra special directions) I began to reassemble each component in its sequential manner, finishing with the necessarily accurate escapement setting, then all I had to deal with was the chime and strike accurate settings. Not overlooking my trial and error method, along with the disassembly & reassembly a number of times, while importantly, if I began to get stressed, I would up and leave my work table and give my mind a rest. Time was not important as it was my own Winchester chime and strike clock, this occurred at my age at that time of my life, aged around 66 years & that was ten years ago, I am now aged 76. Yes, I finally had that old clock up and performing its strike and chime in its accurate restoration. I was impressed by your assembly work, then your obvious years of experience has served you rather well. Thank you for transferring your skills through your videos on your UA-cam site. Old William.

Chris, I am troubleshooting a 451-050H. It will chime on the qtr hrs but often doesn’t chime on the hour . It appears the chime cam is not lifting the arm high enough to trigger the chimming. In this video the chime release cam is already on the front of the movement. I’m just curious how difficult it is to remove and replace. Or do you think it could be something else? This video is great and has helped me get a better understanding of the clock. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Without it I wouldn’t have the courage to get the heirloom back working! I’m hopeful to only have to remove the minute gear, the email, etc to replace the chime release cam. Thank you!!

I have a HMS clock and the little locating rivet has pulled itself out of the barrel and now the spring tail just slips around with nothing to hook on to. Any idea how to fix this problem? It looks similar to the one in your video

I've read several instructional texts on Black Forest cuckoo clocks that lacked sufficient pictures and diagrams, making them hard to follow. Chris, Cuckoo with dancers. Lately clock music doesn't play, but it's intermittent. Sometimes music plays sometimes it doesn't. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi Chris how can you remember where to put all of the wheels on a chimeing clock that plays the Westminster chime back in all of the holes on a chiming clock please and to replace a clock suspension spring to change it for a broken one too a new one please.😮

Hello! Where can I buy the numbers your using? Mine are identical. I went to move the weights today and noticed my 10 is missing the 0. No where in sight and checking online I have not found the right size. Thank you chris!

I sprayed (several times) a Mantle Clock movement made in 1887 (my grandparents') with brake cleaner and turned down the pressure on my air compressor to clean everything. The coil springs were wound tight and stuck together (in places) so I carefully released all tension without disassembling the whole movement. Springs got the cleaner too. Washed everything in HOT soapy water and quickly dried it with compressed air and then a gentle heat gun. Sprayed everything with PB Blaster to coat all of it with lubricant (removed excess best as possible) and used clock grease at every pivot. Had to play with the pendulum settings and now keeps time. Then I started on my (late) parents' Grandfather clock which had a broken (during transport, rookie movers) pendulum support spring for starters and had never been serviced since new (1984). Clocks like this seem to drift from perfect time .....some more than others but are fun to tinker with.....Both clocks have been running good for 90 days now and only stopped once when we left for 7 days to Hawaii.... got back last night....that's what triggered this comment. I'm a new construction plumbing contractor....work with large and small tools. Fun!
