Thank you Chris for providing this video! A picture is worth a thousand words but a video is worth a thousand pics! I was able to adjust my inherited Ridgeway grandfather clock’s chime as it was chiming one minute late. Now it’s chiming right on time. You rock!!
Chris, I have a beautiful grandmother clock that has been in my family for over a century. Today, by chance, I was waiting on the clock repairman and stumbled across your videos. I think you have solved my problem and saved me a lot of money. Many thanks!
You kindly referred me to this video as my Westminster clock chime was slightly out of sync, running approximately 4 minutes out. Your easy to follow instructions made the job so much less daunting and now my clock is bang on, thank you again for your help and please keep up the great work that you do, it is priceless to me and the masses who are not so clued up when it comes to all things clocks. 👍🏻🙏🏻
Thank you sir! Helped fix my issued right away! I first checked with chatGPT but it was beating around the bush, checked your video and had the answer in 60 seconds!
Great video! I had no idea it was thar simple. I just used this repair on my Pearl grandfather clock that was chiming a tad late. It's dead on now! Thank you!
Aha! So THAT's why my clock chimes perfectly in sync w/numbers! .. hahah. just kidding. Great Tip, didn't know that bushing was adjustable. Thanks! 👍 👍
Great video. My second hand has some wiggle room causing my clock be behind when the hand is on the left side and a bit fast when on the right due to the weight of the hand. Can this be tightened?
Hi Chris, I have a Verichron wind up wall clock that is about 35-40 years old. It chimes the wrong amount at each hour. I tried moving the hour hand to the proper time but the next hour it may be anything. sometimes it chimes 4 and the next hour it may chime 7 times. HELP! and thanks.
Hi Chris,, I purchases a Hicarer 2-1/8" clock .. Any ideas on how to adjust time?? There is 1 silver button thay i pushed to start clock . nothing else on side oor back. lence does not open. thanks Gene
Very nice vid although my method is a little different to yours. Instead of using pliers to turn the bushing I use the tapered squar back end of a cutting broach to push the bushing of the hand on. ( broach fastened in a vice ) You will then have two hands to support the hand ( no pun intended ) to turn it.
My Howard Miller grandfather clock strikes the wrong number of times. I tried moving hour hand to the time it struck then back again to correct time. It worked till 9pm.I set it around 2 pm.At 9 it struck 8 times, same thing at 10,then it started backing up to 8 times, then 7.Now this morning at 6,7 and 8 it was right. It was wrong at 9 am and at 10,11 and 12. Then at 1 pm it struck once, which is right. What's up with i?. Never right since daylight savings time and we had to spring ahead! Can you help? We seem so close to fixing it.
It sounds like the rack may be catching on something or not falling correctly onto the snail. You will have to watch the movement in operation to see what is causing the difference in the number of strikes. You can do this by removing the dial.
My clock stricks the hours correctly but at half hour late.. ie at 6.30 it chimes 6 times. It has three key winding ports. It chimes correctly ? Every 15 minutes, keeps good time, just the hour chime is 30 mins late... Can this be reset at home ?? Thanks Chris .. uk 🇬🇧
Then you are probably dealing with an antique clock and it requires a more technical adjustment on the inside of the movement, which I don't have a video to feature that as of yet.
I removed the nut and there is no bushing attached on the back of the second hand!? Now what. ? It’s chiming 3 minutes after it should.mantle clock Ingraham. Thank you.
It depends how the hand is made. What you are showing is a reproduction clock which are made in a different way and most are crap. For a person who doesn't know they are more likely to end up breaking their clock hands.

Thank you it works great now. God is so good to have you help me.
Hi Chris and all. Your adjustment with the hand collet is very informative and accurate especially to newcomers that didn't know this adjustment.
Thank you Paul. I should clarify that this is an adjustment that gets made on modern clocks.
Perfect.. have a mantle clock and the few minutes out was driving me mad.. will try! Many thanks, Chris

You're welcome.
Many thanks for this. I was wondering whether to pay to have my clock ‘repaired’, now I won’t have to.
Hi Christ. Thank you very much for the vdo. However, I am wondering what the two holes in the front are for? Cheers!

How do you adjust a loose bushing? Did you do a video on it?

Actually that is also how i do it, but this video is designed for someone to be able to do it without “special” tools.

Just undo the hand nut (or take out the pin holding the hand) and replace it at 180 degrees to where it was. Replace the hand nut (or pin).
thank you very mutch my mauthe clock is now chiming correctly again
Fantastic!
What if it doesn't have a bushing ? Strikes 3 minutes late. Thanks.
Then you are probably dealing with an antique clock and it requires a more technical adjustment on the inside of the movement, which I don't have a video to feature that as of yet.
@@Chrisclockrepair I think it is the star wheel they has to be slightly turned.
The star wheel adjusts the run of the lift of the strike; it doesn't determine when the clock begins the striking sequence.
Chris, I have a very old grandfather clock that doesn’t have the part of the hand that allows for adjustment. Is there a way to modify it?
No. If it is antique clock, this adjustment will not work.
finially someone knows about manley pliers they are the best!
Video suggestion: comprehensive adjustment of a pendulum escapement from scratch.
I moved the hour hand. Now what?
I removed the nut and there is no bushing attached on the back of the second hand!? Now what. ? It’s chiming 3 minutes after it should.mantle clock Ingraham. Thank you.
That trick won’t work on your clock as it is a countwheel type movement. That’s not a beginner adjustment.

He even says for a rack and snail movement
