Sorry to hear that Barry :( My husband is a Cambodian American and I’m a Loatian American, and we visited Cambodia the 1st time last November. His Visa entry was free but I paid $30, but got the pressure to give them tip money in Phnom Penh. We went to Lao and no issue with the entering process. We re-entered Cambodia through a flight to Siem Reip. They kept passing my passport to different windows/counters. Then, at the final counter, this official motioned for me to give him extra tip money. We were so scared! I think they let us off easy because we told them we had a friend who was picking us up at the airport. Of course, the fact that my husband could communicate with them in a foreign accent is another story 🤣

Bummer you got shaken down on the Cambodian side. Online I've read the fee is only $30. But look at the big picture: If the Lao official had followed the rules, you would've paid at least $210 in fines. So you paid an extra $40 entering Cambodia, but you saved $210 on the Laos side... you made out like a bandit! Get away from those tourists! You're starting to sound like the typical whinging farang. 🤣
