"Pat kaprao" has never been one of my favorites. I'll eat it if nothing else is available, but there are many other better dishes available in my opinion. There's not a great deal of variety in the way "pat kaprao" is prepared from one shop to another. For some, that's the appeal; you know what you're going to get. My favorite stir-fry dish these days is "pat kee mao" (drunken stir fry). There's a lot more variety on that dish. You can order it over noodles or rice. The fresh green peppers are standard, but the "kaprao" (holy basil) can be replaced with "maeng lak" (lemon basil). There are more veggies in "pat kee mao" so it's a healthier choice. Also, the most common "pat kaprao" is with the minced pork. With "pat kee mao" you can choose whatever protein source you want. In the mood for some seafood? Order some squid "pat kee mao". And, of course, you can order it with the runny fried egg on top if you want.
