    You learn as You go. Best way to remove doors is to knock the hinge pins out. If the doors are aligned correctly, you don’t want to mess with the hinge mounts.

    Nice to meet You Mike , this just popped up and I subscribed. Been into these old bugs almost 50 years, and currently getting close to finishing up My 69 vert. project. To do a respectable job, I think Your deadline is flat out undoable, not just think , I know it’s not. You cannot put a deadline , especially that short, on such a project. Take Your time and make the trip next year, maybe I’ll tag along. 👍👍🇺🇸

    Can you confirm the VIN? Don't give the entire number, just make sure the 3rd number is a "4". I only ask that because while watching the intro, I noticed the front fender are not from a '74 ('74 should have D shaped holes...at least in the States. Canada may not have had shock absorber bumper brackets)

    I really hope you make a mark of the rear spring plate position before disassembly. The spring bar have 40 groove inside and 44 outside and allow 3mm of heigh setting. If you didn't do it, be prepare to assemble AND disassemble a lot of time to find the right position. An other thing, springbar have a direction, left goes to the left and right goes... If you change it, they'll work in the wrong direction and you'll have the rear who will go down and too low in no time.

    • @mikedeschamps
      @mikedeschamps Місяць тому

      Nope didn’t mark it. But we knew this. The plates actually both sat flush to the bottom bracket so we had taken photos of how it all goes. And I engraved the drivers side shaft.

    Your getting mechanical work the last few bug reworking days, instead of body work. That's different. I wonder If the suspension rear bearings can just get washed and used again. Some old things are built better than new. Don't listen to me. lol I heard you mention the number of video's so far on the body work. You've been busy!

    Put your Jack stan under the A post hinge side and it will help to align the door. Supporting the body by the struts towers it puts pressure on the upper body and it will misaligned the A post making the door go down on the strike side.

I'm going to be working on Interior stuff today and if it stops raining, I HOPE, I'll be working on the Shift Linkage and maybe getting the wheels off to replace lugs.

      I should mention that we recently found the floor repair for the battery area is all wrong. They placed a piece of metal cut to shape over the hole and bolted it in place along with epoxy holding what is left of the back floor pan in place. So interesting what you find when you start taking these cars apart!

    Keep pushing. I just found out I need new crossmembers, lower rear quart panels and both inner rear fenderwells. Already cut the firewall wall out to replace that and have the heaterchannels to do.. I figure another 1-2yrs at this rate haya

  • @Kanrinin01
    @Kanrinin01 2 місяці тому

    Be aware, the two oblong holes you have in the back of your body (under the rear seats) are made for your heater's duct. Right here, you have normaly two parts in bakelite, you absolutly need to mount them before puting the body on your frame. It'll be impossible to do it after. Second thing, these parts are screwed on your body by four welded nuts, but you welded news sheet parts without them.
