    I have a jacaranda tree in ground and it is around 7 feet tall. I want it to have an open shape, it’s mostly growing straight upward. Can I use guy wires to pull some branches downward? Also, where every you make a pruning cut does it split its growth into two?

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203 10 місяців тому

      Yeah you can wire the tree to open it up and the tree really responds well. With regards to cutting, sometimes it split into two, but sometimes there only one annoying one that grows the wrong way. This tree is really hard to shape. Hard to bonsai as well. It’s been three years since I made videos of this tree and now I would hope it looks good, but it’s far from it , I think it’s uglier now than before. But at least it’s healthy.

    I noticed there qas alot of extra old soil around the rootball, is that best for thebm tree? Im just courious because i read somewhere that it should be all cleaned out and it will help the health of thebtree in the long run? Thanks if u see this comment

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203 11 місяців тому

      Hello, yes, I don’t do a lot of root cleanups, as much as possible I want to leave some old soils. Not many trees are strong to handle that, especially the birch trees in my area, they hardly survive. I always lean on the higher rate of survival of the tree.

    Hello! I'm growing oak as well. Im curious what soil you use during pre-bonsai development? Also, curious if you had any trouble dealing with tap roots?

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203 Рік тому

      Hello, during the pre-bonsai development, when they are still in the bigger nursery pot I just use regular potting soil. I didn’t have any problems with any tap roots. You can cut them anytime. The fibrous roots or feeder roots are the most important in bonsai.

    Is that an interior live oak? Also, along with guy wires I have seen pictures of bonsai having fishing weights with ornament hooks hanging around the branches.

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203 Рік тому

      Hello, I’m not sure about interior, but this was labeled coast live oak or quercus agrifolia. I have another live oak, leaves looks a little bit the same but darker and the trunk is more harder, and I’m still trying to check what the real name for it. Guy wires are recommended for this, I don’t wire them around branches because it marks easy and will not disappear.

    Absolutely beautiful what a bonsai. I live in south florida where paperbark is in abundance and a few days ago i collected my first yamadori. It was a 4 foot paperbark tree growing on the edge of a lake and it has a big, hollow trunk with branches coming from the top. It's been days and it has already started to shoot out leaves and looks healthy. I don't know why this specie isn't used for bonsai more often it's a really cool tree and I will surely go out and collect more stumps and trees that i find

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203 Рік тому

      Hello, it good that you found a very nice paper bark tree or Melaleuca tree. It is a native of Australia and I am fortunate that we have it here in Southern California. I used to have a few but the others didn’t make it long , we had a long and very hot heat wave a few years ago and I forgot to put them in the shade so it died. Lesson learned. If you have a lot there in your area I suggest that have a lot more , they are great for bonsai but it’s not available in more areas where the pros are, that’s why it not used for bonsai. Good luck and have fun! Regards Mel

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203 Рік тому

      Hello, during winter, only twice a week. It’s a rainy winter here so there a time that I didn’t water for a month and sometimes two two weeks. In summer, every day, that’s why I don’t like summer. The fastest way to thicken a trunk is put it on a side and let it grow like crazy without pruning.
