Nice video and excellent live oak! This appears quite similar to a Holm oak or perhaps like a cork oak here on Spain. It's interesting to see their relative across the pond!
Hello, thank you! Yeah, I really don’t know the exact variety of this oak, I just go by the nursery label of it. Like maples, the oaks has so many types. Regards
Great video! I love oaks! I think they look mighty yet beautiful. There is a 10' bur oak my neighbor wanted me to dig for free next spring and I'd really want to try the big leaf bur oak. I have questions though, how does the oak respond to trunk chopping? Will it back bud? If not, I might choose the nursery route to start an oak bonsai.
Hello Ben, I have different experiences with different varieties of oaks. This coast live oak, I have no problem, they buds and give me a lot of branches. But the white oak, I only have one bud, so I just grew the one bud and made it the leader and developed to have the branches. But I can tell you it bud back when you chop the trunk. Good luck and regards!
@@lakeelsinorebonsai1203 Thanks kuya Mel! Love your videos and I keep on watching. Also, hope you don't mind me sharing into our small Filipino beginner's bonsai group here in Canada. Cheers!
Hi Ben, thank as well for watching! Salamat! I would love and appreciate if you share the videos! I hope I can help. Meron ding Ilan pinoy dito ang nabibigyan ko ng advice. Experience lang, amateur din naman ako. Kung may tanong kayo, don’t hesitate! God bless and stay safe.
It really depends where you are. Here in Southern California, most of the local nurseries have some and with different kinds. I even bought a seedling of Northern Red Oak from the east coast and grow it here. It’s acclimating really well and trunk is getting fat now. Check if oak is growing in your area and look around your local nurseries.
Nice video but heart-achingly beautiful music really touched me. That was lovely 🥰 😊❤
Thank you! That’s some of the few music that I can get from the editing app. Hahaha!
I love the video! I like it so much when you do this type of video! Love the music! Love the Oak!😍😍😍
Thank you a Jennifer! I’m glad you like it! I love making this type of video so I won’t talk. Regards!

Great progress and cool tree 👍🏻
Thank you so much! 😀👍😀
Mel, your collection is awesome. Great work. Thanks
Hey Matt Thanks! Happy 4th of July! BBQ time!
Do you mind asnwering a couple of questions? what time of year would you do heavy pruning? Repotting? How much foliage could it stand to lose?
If you’re in US and Europe, now Is a great time. You can take as much as you need to remove. It’s good if you can leave some branches.
@@lakeelsinorebonsai1203 thank you!!!

Where can I buy oak tree?

The leaves on that tree aren't that of a live oak. They look like Holly leaves
Yeah, they do. All California live oak or Coast live oak have holly leaves look alike. This one is a different variety, leaves are darker.
