      @@lakeelsinorebonsai1203 yeah my neighbor has a huge 50 footer in his front and it's amazing when it blooms, then theres a couple yellows that bloom slightly after. I was reading online that droughts, lack of potassium, and something else can influence blooming.

    I have a jacaranda tree in ground and it is around 7 feet tall. I want it to have an open shape, it’s mostly growing straight upward. Can I use guy wires to pull some branches downward? Also, where every you make a pruning cut does it split its growth into two?

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203  9 місяців тому

      Yeah you can wire the tree to open it up and the tree really responds well.
      With regards to cutting, sometimes it split into two, but sometimes there only one annoying one that grows the wrong way. This tree is really hard to shape. Hard to bonsai as well. It’s been three years since I made videos of this tree and now I would hope it looks good, but it’s far from it , I think it’s uglier now than before. But at least it’s healthy.

    Any tips for a Newby starting out? Mines about 4 inches tall. Growing indoors, filtered light. When should I start guide wiring? Great videos. Thanks.

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203  3 роки тому +1

      Hello Steven, I would suggest if you wanted to have the trunk bigger to slip pot it in a big nursery pot and let it grow wild. It will take years and a lot of patience. Wiring and shaping will be later on. You can put it outside, it can take heat and cold. They are deciduous so it’s normal to lose foliage in the winter.

    Amazing trees, I started my first jacaranda few months ago. Please tell me if it will loose leaves in winters, fertilizer and winter care tips. It gets very cold here at my place. Thank you

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203  4 роки тому +1

      Hello, yes, it will lose all the leaves. They are deciduous. No more fertilizer, do it in the spring to mid-fall. Always keep it moist, every time you water make sure it reaches the root ball. Otherwise they are very strong tree. Check out the latest video of summer tour, it is featured at the beginning. You’ll see the progression. Thank you ! Stay safe!

    Nice tree. I grew one from a seed. About three years old now. I have been checking in on your jacaranda trees from time to time to see if they have bloomed yet. I have several more years to go...I suppose. You bark is definitely a bite more advanced than min. I would guess your tree is about 5-6 years old. Should be blooming any season now. Thoughts?

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Scott, I have this tree for almost 4 years now, and the trunk are still the same. This was a garden tree which is like 8ft. And I chopped it off to 13 inches making it into a stump. Some little branches were left and I grew the others and wired them down. Now I am just trying to grow secondary branches, so constant pruning prevents it from flowering. I am not really looking to bloom yet, my focus is shaping for now. Every summer this tree has a lot of foliage and is very thick, so cutting and pruning three times a year is the what I do. Someday, hopefully if I can maintain its health, it will finally bloom.
      I will post another video update for this tree soon. Thank you so much for checking. Cheers!

    Beautiful tree. Could you explain your approach to the pruning? I know you are pruning away branches that block light to the inside of the tree, but what are you looking for aside from letting in more light? Are you developing a canopy? How do you intend to shape the tree overall? Also, can you guy wire branches while they are still young and green? Thnx

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, yeah, pruning’s main purpose is for the light to come in. And it is also to shape the tree to design and developing canopy. This tree used to have long leggy branches and I’m trying to shorten them so it’s more compact and tight. I would like to look like the tree in the forest as much as possible. But I don’t want to cut them drastically. So I’m taking it slow. So far I think it’s doing great! I still have some guy wires because they still spring back if I remove them

      @@lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      The nature of the jacaranda is that the branches go in every which way; they don't follow a pattern like many other trees do, so it's difficult to get them to present some sort of shape or organized pattern. Is it too early to wire while the branches are still green?

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203  4 роки тому +1

      I think you can wire them if they are still green, it’s actually better. But you have to be really careful of breaking.

    I saw the three vídeos and I want to congratulate on such a beautiful tree !!! I have a Jacaranda tree that is about 20 inches long and has been in a bonsai pot for 2 years. Could you tell me what is the first cut I need to make to start shaping a beautiful bonsai? Do I need to cut all the branches and leave a trunk only 10 inches ?

    • @lakeelsinorebonsai1203
      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Adriana , you can cut it as low as 10” but maybe 12 would be better. Does it have a branch below that that you can use? If you cut it like a stump, there should be at least a branch with a foliage to make the survival rate higher, but most of the tree survive and grow branches back, but there are some that doesn’t, like conifers and some deciduous too. But I think the jacaranda will. If you watch my newer jacaranda repotting video earlier this year you will see that I left no foliage at all and now there a lot of growth. So you actually can.
