    What kind of soil/gravel mixture are you using to place around the transplanted tree in the pot? Sorry a newbie here, thanks.

      Hello, you can use whatever is available in your area. Japanese Academia clay is very expensive because it’s imported, so I don’t use that. I use mixture if natural uncented clay (cat litter), Walmart has it.
      Pumice, almost all nurseries sell it. Lava rocks and I add crushed granite, it has sharp edges which split the roots to make finer feeder roots. The ratio is 30/30/30/10 percent. You can make you own mixture, but clay and pumice is mostly recommended, also lava rocks. I hope this helps.

    Very Awesome Bonsai Collections you Have. Mel please don’t get Mad but I think your Wife May Be Right You Do Have A lot of Bonsai Trees! lol just don’t show Wife this! hehehehehe. I think you to have a Lottery on How Many Bonsai Trees you Have! Let us guess but each guess cost Five Dollars to Enter. God Bless and Take Care Love to Come out to California and See all the Bonsai Nursery. Wow.

      Hi Gregory! Thank you! Yes, you’re right, that’s why I have never bought any more trees since last year. And that was from her for my birthday! So technically, it’s been two years. Before that I got addicted on hunting and collecting trees from local garden nurseries. Every weekend that’s my wife’s and I’s road trip. But I go to those small far away family owned (Mexican) suburban nurseries , and the old trees in the backend corner of the nursery. Which are for the owners are already trash and for us it was treasure. Price ranging from $30 to $50 the most, except for JBP and J maples of course. Hahaha!
      And i realized I have so much for my little space. So I stopped. Just caring and improving what I have right now.

    Mel any suggestions on local nursery that carries large Chinese Elm? Not Pre
    Bonsai just nursery stock. I’m also interested in any local places for reasonably priced bonsai pots.
    Glad to see you back on UA-cam.

      Hello Frank, my two Chinese elms have been with me for over 20 years. I have been looking for a garden tree in the nurseries for Chinese elms and I actually couldn’t find one. Because I’ve been seeing a lot of them young, planted maybe only 5 years in our Walmart and Target parking lots. I saw some in one of the Riverside nurseries, but they are all still young and have thin trunks.
      But over there in Lakewood nursery in the city of Hawaiian gardens or Cypress, there are a lot of great materials you can find. I think I have a video of it. Title is nurseries in LA.
      You can check it out.

      hola Alfonso! ¡cómo estás! ¡gracias por ver mis videos! Vivo en Lake Elsinore pero antes viví en Chino Hills Ca durante 17 años, donde comencé a recolectar algunos de mis bonsáis desde 1997. Recorro todos los viveros aquí en Los Ángeles, Riverside Cerritos e incluso en el valle de san fernando. cerca de Pomona hay un vivero en Chino llamado Memo nursery, tengo muchos árboles allí, incluido mi jacaranda. Vaya a Yelp y busque viveros pequeños que sean de propiedad familiar, no grandes. voy a los viveros de propiedad mexicana y busco en la parte de atrás donde están los árboles viejos y descuidados, eso es lo que hice. Espero poder ayudarte un poco. si tiene más preguntas, hágamelo saber. ¡Gracias!

    Awesome Collections Sir Mel! Just a question, it is so hard to find those pots... where do you get yours?

      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203  3 роки тому +1

      Hello Ram! Thank you! I am always around garden and bonsai nurseries, and I just picked up anything on sale. 2 years ago when Brussels Bonsai online have a cheaper price, but now they jacked up the price 3x, so I don’t buy from them anymore. Theres are a lot of really nice and expensive pots out there, but I don’t buy them. Only when they have sale.

    Is it possible to grow Trident Maple at a temperature of 20-30 degree Celsius....

      Is it easy or hard to grow it from seed? Also do I need to give any special treatment for it to germinate?

      @lakeelsinorebonsai1203  3 роки тому +1

      Honestly I haven’t tried it growing from seeds so I can’t really tell you anything. I’m sorry. But you will need a lot of patience
